I am rooted and it always fails to install the latest update.

I have tried following this guide

the `Update and Root OTA Sideload` section.

after following all the directions, I find myself on the same build number ( SD1A.210817.036 )

EDIT:
turns out i was running into this error
"Error applying update: 7 (ErrorCode: :kInstallDeviceOpenError)." when trying to sideload the zip.

Why not ask in the thread you quoted? Why start another?

Had the same problem. I used the Android flash tool method but i had to wipe all data and it worked. If you decide to do the same backup your phone to pc.

Make sure you are using the latest Platform Tools https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools

Make sure you have the latest USB drivers https://developer.android.com/studio/run/win-usb

Try different cables.

Try different ports.
