How long does each update take cuz mine has been updating for a very long time... I did plug in to charge after it started updating but I don't think that should've made any difference... It's been on "Patching system files..." for a long time... lol

*update* it took forever for my phone but it does update... didn't exactly time it but it's not something you should stick around for... lol

I'm currently running on G891AUCS2API2 (Marshmallow) and I'm a bit confused - Do I have to do all of the updates individually like this:
( G891AUCS2API2 -> G891AUCU2APK2)
(G891AUCU2APK2 -> G891AUCS2APL1)
(G891AUCS2APL1 -> G891AUCS2AQA1)
Android 7.0 Nougat
(G891AUCU2APK2 v1.4 -> G891AUCU2BQB2 v2.3 )
(G891AUCS2APL1 v1.5 -> G891AUCU2BQB2 v2.3 )
(G891AUCS2AQA1 v1.6 -> G891AUCU2BQB2 v2.3 )
( G891AUCU2BQB2 v2.3 -> G891AUCS2BQC2 v2.4)

Or can I go straight ahead and follow the instructions in the first post to jump to android 8?

That russian site appears to have an Odin-flashable Oreo (CRE7) build here.

Anyone tried it?

Edit: Tried it myself, worked like a charm. I was already on CRC7 from the steps in the OP, so I don't know if it would work straight from Nougat.

I gave up on trying to apply the CRE7 update and went ahead and settled with the CRE5 and it loaded just fine. Might have been a corrupt file, downloaded it 3 times. :silly:
Hey i successfully updated to cre7 using the method as follows

SM-G891A_G891AUCS2BRA7_USA_ATT_v7.0.7z via odin then

SS-G891AUCS2BRA7-to-U2BRB5-UP.zip

SS-G891AUCU2BRB5-to-S2BRC1-UP.zip

SS-G891AUCS2BRC1-to-U3CRE7-UP.zip
it works sweet rather than using d1 to cre7

Note : I updated every update via sd card after the first one i did using oden . im a new member so cant provide links to the firmwares but i have them all and will figure out how to send them to any one who wants them =)

When I try to install the BRA7 to BRB5 update, my phone gives this error.
Could someone that knows more than me interpret this for me and tell me what I need to do?

I read your above article and I gather from it that you had root on Nougat??? I'm an S7 Active owner with 7.0, April 1st, 2018 version G891AUCS3BRD1 AT&T latest release on my device that I would love to have rooted... I would gladly donate to you for that to be done. I'd rather have my device rooted then have Oreo on it. Rooted I can remove bloatware, move apps to SD card that I choose, and just a whole bunch of other things. I'm actually planning to buy a Nexus 6P just to get a device I can root and control myself. If you feel you can root my device, I will gladly pay you...

Has anybody else tried to flash it?

I have flashed CRE7 multiple times. It is the full version. You can flash it but it will change your bootloader to v3. You will not be able to go back to Marshmellow and only Nougat version BRD1

I flashed AP_ (ROM), BL_ (bootloader) and CP_ (modems)and it works fine. Should I flash the CP_ (modems) and CSC_ATT (extra stuff) as well?

I'm not quite sure what you are asking. If you want to get the full CRE7 (Oreo) firmware that is on bootloader version 3, then you need to flash the BL, AP, CP, and CSC of the CRE7 firmware. The CRE7 firmware can be downloaded from the cloud(dot)mail(dot)ru site.

Alright flashed all and all seems to work fine. However there is no Bluetooth tethering option. Don't know if it ever were there, but anybody knows if it's possible to enable it?

Unable to upgrade from BRD1 to U3CRE5 via Odin

Tried several times flashing the Oreo but keep getting error mount: failed to mount/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/system at /system: permission denied. Any idea what is causing the error

Bootloader V4?

I flashed CRE7 via Odin without any issues "G891AUCU3CRE7_CL13639069_QB18343712_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.7z"
Phone was functional
Then, since it's listed by ATT as the current firmware i tried to update to CRH1 via SD Card "SS-G891AUCU3CRE7-to-U4CRH1-UP.zip"

Since installing CRH1 the phone automatically boots to recovery where it states

Code:
This is old binary, Please update latest binary! (recovery.img)

Security Error: This phone has been
flashed with unauthorized software &
is locked. Call your mobile operator
for additional support. Please note
that repair / return for this issue may
have additional cost.
Attemping to flash CRE7 back to the device results in
Code:
<ID:0/005> Get PIT for mapping..
<ID:0/005> Firmware update start..
<ID:0/005> NAND Write Start!!
<ID:0/005> SingleDownload.
<ID:0/005> emmc_appsboot.mbn
<ID:0/005> lksecapp.mbn
<ID:0/005> FAIL! (Auth)
On the device in Odin it states
Code:
SW REV CHECK FAIL : [aboot]Fused 4 > Binary 3
Also in Odin is
Code:
CURRENT BINARY: CUSTOM
SYSTEM STATUS: OFFICAL
FPR LOCK: ON
WARRANTY VOID: 0x0
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
RP SWREV: B4(1, 1, 1, 1, 1) K2 S3
I might hazard a guess that the update file contained BL v4? and there's no Odin flashable BL v4 images?

I'd really appreciate any help, thanks!

Yes, U3CRE7 contains boot loader v3.
You installed an upgrade that did an upgrade to BL v4, as well as to CRH1.

break that file name apart .. U <boot loader version > <OS version >

You cannot revert boot loader... you have bootloader 4, and it will not accept the bootloader 3 files at all.

OTA is unreliable,and Samsung/att might give you a bug that is related to your situation (your carrier, your frequency, your SIM card, your SD card, your Wifi ) So you should only upgrade to a bootloader version that you have various options available with.

There is a full firmware for bootload 4 here

https://cloud.mail.ru/public/BGy7/gKs4xzhRE/firmwares/Oreo/

Note this restricts you to boot loader 4 OS versions, and perhaps any restrictions this puts on firmware upgrades... Can you do OTA upgrades, can you use ODEN, can you defeat FRP if you have an FRP problem, so anyone else reading this,you go to Bootloader 4 to discover any catches ... its early days so it may be a while before someone solves the problem you hit, such as FRP problems - even if you are legit .. what if they have a bug that got through their testing, but affects you ?

So I was on APK2 and upgraded with the file of ORIGINAL POST. So far no problems. Hope this helps.

yes.

But in general, There's not a lot of difference between loading an OTA patch, and a new firmware (a complete update, rather than a patch. Its like blanking a hard drive to install, right), because the OTA patch resets the phone (wipes out anything user) just like a new firmware does.

So the choice is up to you.

There's just two things to watc

* Once you move the bootstrap up to a new version (the number.. eg 2, 3 ,4 just before the last 4 characters which are main OS version numbers ), you can't reduce the bootstrap number, so you limit yourself to any OS that is available with that number , or larger.

* There are OTA patch files to alpha or beta versions, which then don't have a way forward via OTA's released. If you install one of them, you can only move on by loading a full firmware file via ODIN..-- Except there is the case of loading a trial OTA that also moves you to a new bootstrap version, for which you can't find the full OS image file, and you are stuck for a while if the alpha/beta version is not a good OS for you. What if they never release anything for it after that ?

So just don't grab any file from the archives.. by rights the archive would move alpha and beta versions out of the way.. but they are mixed in.
