G891AUCS2BQH1 to G891AUCS3BRD1

Hi, I just bought a S7 active (my previous was a S5 active).

Since I'm from Canada (and using an ATT US phone) I'm used to update my phone with ODIN.

What is the shortest path to upgraed from G891AUCS2BQH1 to G891AUCS3BRD1 ? Is there a full package to do it ?

Thanks for any help !

Hi, with ODIN go to https://cloud.mail.ru/public/BGy7/g..._QB17619845_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.7z

This is a full ODIN flashable firmware with last official S3BRD1, remeber always to make a backup. In this page on main you can find ODIN Modify too following this link: https://cloud.mail.ru/public/BGy7/gKs4xzhRE/ODIN-modified.zip

Thanks, that was a quick answer. But I've found ODIN v.13.1 since it is newer isn't it better to use this version instead of the odin-modified you sent me with the link ? What's the difference between these 2 odin version ?

Odin modified is for s7 active and normal Odin doesn't have active support. Don't use a newer normal Odin version.

Just a heads up that on U3CRE2 I'm having much difficulty with international roaming from Canada to the US. Something is up and I reckon it has to do with the delay in releasing Oreo to the S7s. So, just a warning to hold off on updating to that version if you had it in mind to. One more month....
Thanks for letting us know! Fellow Canadian here as well

Beware that it might be a beta of some sort. It seems to be uploaded on the russian site:

https://cloud.mail.ru/public/BGy7/gKs4xzhRE/OTA/Oreo/SS-G891AUCS3BRD1-to-U3CRE5-UP.zip
As always, if you don't want to (or can't) mess around with ODIN, then wait until ATT releases the official update.

Thanks to @khaliullov I was able to revert from CRE2 back to BRD1 then up to CRE5. I've installed this as of yesterday and am not seeing any issues yet. I can't comment on the roaming issue that I had on the weekend because I'm back home now.

Overall, these Oreo builds have really good battery life and some nice additions to the Samsung take on Android. For instance, it's easy to set up a password manager to autofill app account passwords. There are notification badges on app icons. Quick actions on long-press. Sound over bluetooth is noticeably better (to my ears). Samsung keyboard seems to work better. New gesture to open app drawer and notification/quick settings. etc. All of this definitely breathes some life into our 2 year old phones.

Thanks for your review!
Maybe I'll try this build on few hours while I'm doing a backup :)

What *are* the steps to go from CRE2 to CRE5? Or maybe the question is, what are the steps to go from CRE2 back to BRD1 so that the CRE5 update can be applied? Thanks.

Look through recent posts pointing at a full firmware from the cloud site maintained on mail.ru. If you have U3CRE2 installed, it's very important that you download ONLY a firmware with the version 3 bootloader unless you want brickage. Download that full firmware for S3BRD1. Also on that site, download the modified ODIN program which allows firmware flashing on the S7 Active. From there google "S7 Firmware Flashing ODIN" and you will run into many video tutorials describing how this is done. Requires a windows computer although it would surprise me if there wasn't a Linux toolset for the same thing. Anyhow. follow the ODIN flashing instructions using the firmware you downloaded. That will put you on BRD1 from which you can go to CRE5 using the latest update. And, if CRE5 doesn't prove to be the official, you can reflash the firmware to go back to BRD1 which is the last known official firmware.

Good luck!

Would that be this file?

https://cloud.mail.ru/public/BGy7/g..._QB17619845_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.7z

The "extra" text in the file name have me confused.

In appreciation of the help given, I wanted to provide this feedback. A week or more back, thanks to this thread I updated my S7 Active to Oreo U3CRE2 without any issues (other than the update process takes a freaking long time!). Earlier this week I read about the CRE5 update and wanted to try it. Again, thanks to help here I succeeded in downgrading back to AUCS3BRD1 via Odin, then upgraded to CRE5 (again, a freaking long upgrade time!).

The CRE5 upgrade prevented me from setting up Google Pay. I got an error message stating that my device was either rooted or running a custom rom and could not be certified by Google. I'm not saying that CRE5 is "custom" or "rooted". Maybe it's such a new beta that Google doesn't have record of it. Regardless, *I* couldn't get Google Pay setup again. Your mileage may vary. I did not try to setup Samsung Pay.

I've Odin'd back to BRD1 and tested - Google Pay recognizes my device as "secure" again. I'll probably re-install CRE2 as it was working well for me for the week I was running it. Unlike a previous poster, I live in the US and don't expect to be roaming in Canada (or any other country) any time soon.

Thanks for the great feedback and review. I'm in Canada so hadn't tried google pay as I don't think its available here yet? But I did just try setting it up (running CRE5) and can confirm the error you get regarding a rooted or modified phone. Can you confirm that Google pay works with CRE2? Anyhow, i guess this means waiting a bit longer for the official Oreo update and, for me, another round of ODIN...

S3BRD1-to-U3CRE5 is up on ATT servers. Nothing above version 5 as yet.
Hi,

Can you please let me know which way to go right now to the latest version? Right now I am on: BQG1
I am totally confused with the news about different bootloaders etc.

I am planning to go with Odin to G891AUCS3BRD1 but the downloaded file has quite a strange name:
"G891AUCS3BRD1_CL13107193_QB17619845_REV02_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT"
Then I would like to go via update.zip to CRE2 using this file:
"SS-G891AUCS3BRD1(7.0)-to-U3CRE2(8.0)-UP"

Is this all right?
Would be SO GREAT if somebody could like the download file for the latest Odin version + the DL links how to go on from there with zip updates.

Thank you very much!
