OTA Updates with Root

On US version of MediaPad M3, would it be possible to flash greatslon TWRP on recovery2 partition. Would this allow me to boot to TWRP using adb and still allow me to take OTA updates using stock recovery on recovery partition? Im new to the 2 recovery partitions but it seems like this might work if both the recovery partitions are the same before flashing anything. Can anyone confirm this as a viable option to take OTA updates as well as use TWRP to root?

I have flashed TWRP to recovery 2 on the US version of the M3, so I know it is possible. This actually makes it even easier to boot into TWRP, because you can use the unlocked bootloader warning functionality to launch. I can't say it will help with OTA updates by using the stock recovery partition, because I haven't seen a stock US update yet.

I should have stated OTA update with TWRP recovery, Im not sure the OTA update would even work with root. I could always factory reset though and take the OTA if needed..

Thanks for confirming my thoughts on the recovery 2 idea. This also explains why there is a second recovery which Im not familiar with.

No update for the european model as well. I'm kinda disappointed with the device performance :/

@TaRsY, have you changed the power plan setting from smart to performance? Things definitely seemed more peppy for me once I switched power plans, and the performance plan does not seem to use a whole lot more battery. You might also try changing the resolution with the ROG power saving, which I remember reading in a different thread seemed to also improve response time.

Power plan setting is set to performance (by the whay that's the default value).
The primary reason I bought this tablet was the sreen resolution for nice reading experience. No way I'm going to give up this.

I have a OnePlus3, which is a quite fast phone with 7.0, but I'm currently using AOSIP, a well-majntained CAF rom, which provides smoothness I've never seen before. These two devices maybe shouldn't be compared, but my sis got a Honor 8, which feels also smoother than the Mediapad (that has already beta emui 5.0)

The mediapad looks like having struggles when it's under heavy io load.
There's definately room for improvement in the near future.

Interesting, another difference between China/European models and the US. The US version has Smart as the default power plan. One other thing I did was change the launcher to Nova Launcher, which either helped in smoothness, or with the different animations made it at least seem smoother ;)
