Try the Ballistic SG series. Been on this phone since day one. Rugged as heck, but doesn't provide screen protection. That and a private sector insurance plan for one-half the price of the retailer or provider plans, allows me to get my phone repaired at a local facility, and I'm happy for my needs. I don't worry about knox, and I'll never have to send my phone to Sammy or Sprint for repairs.

Worth Ave Group, contracts with many local repair facilities, including CPR-Cell Phone Repair. The store near Irving, TX is in Lewisville; the place is a franchise chain, so each is run fairly consistently. Still, check the ratings of the facility. I've got about 7 in the Tampa Bay area, and the ones run by the local franchise rep are first class. Guy knows how to run a business, people actually answer the phone, even offer concierge service if needed. Premium works out to about $5 per month for an annual policy with a limit of $700. There is no aggregate limit (ie, you can file multiple claims per year, with no drawdown on the limit), with a per-incident deductible of $50. The premium/phone value/deductible metrics are fairly inline with most insurance (like your car), and when assayed against what the retailers provide and the mobile operators offer, it's pretty much a no-brainer in my book.

I just got the screen replaced on my son's Jellybombed Note 2, and worked without a hitch. The repair job cost me $50. Guys in the shop were blown away by the light saber sounds and all the other wild stuff going on with Josh's ROM.

As with any product, I recommend that you do your homework before you buy, and choose what is right for you. I've run this by Stryke_the_Orc, one of our fine forum moderators, and he was OK with me putting this info up in the E4GT thread, inasmuch as I do not have any personal stake in either of these entities.

I hope this helps.

Interesting, thanks! I just bought my Note 3 new in the box from an individual on Craigslist so no receipt or warranty. I'll have to check them out.

No Problem...

I hope it works out for you. Gives you total control over the product you just bought.

The protection plans offered by mobile operators and retailers are on-par with usury in my book (think pawn shop loan). These plans are so lopsided towards the seller that it boggles the mind. Pure profit for them, with deductibles approaching 10% of the price value, and premium about 20% of the product value (absurd), and the benefits to you are just substandared, to put it mildly. Real insurance accords you at least some rights, including State Department of Financial Services oversight of the issuers of policies, loss reserves, &c. You may note that if they call it protection and not insurance, they do that for a reason: they can charge whatever they want, with little recourse for the buyer.

FYI: As long as you have a S/N or MEID, you have the ability to buy your own coverage from any number of insurance companies.

Thanks for the info! Im on the fence about getting a Note 3 because of the Knox and current issues and didnt want to have any issues when taking it into Sprint. I am also in the Tampa Bay area and would like to check this place out, is there a particular location that you recommend going to (definitely want to go to one that is knowledgeable and doesnt have any issue with Root/Knox). Thanks

I hope this helps.

On their Compare page it says, "Worth Ave. Group never puts a limit on the number of claims that you can file and with our low deductibles you are guaranteed low out of pocket costs in the event of a claim." I was almost ready to buy until I read this on their Losses Covered page, "Please Note: Each Policy provides coverage for (1) Cell Phone (excludes iPhones) at any one time for one full calendar."

Can you explain this apparent discrepancy?

I'm not their advocate, but I have read my policy and have my 220 license in Florida. It's one policy per phone, not one repair per phone, which looks to me what that says.

I'd suggest that you call them Monday and discuss your concerns.

Yeah, one policy per phone makes sense. I emailed their customer service for further clarification. Thanks again!

My first Samsung device was the Galaxy Tab 7+, and that was not a fun experience. After that I've been dealing with HTC Evo and Evo LTE, which were okay experiences, until the Evo LTE lost all bluetooth connections, camera wouldn't work and wifi took a while to find a network...all in one month. Went to sprint, and make a long story short, they got me on the one-up and got the Note 3 and watch.

I have to admit that I really underestimated Samsung, the built in S-Applications are actually not bad at all. I'm digging the S-Notes where you can create different journals with themes. That in itself has a huge amount of features for a stock application.

The camera is amazing, and here I was holding the Evo LTE on a pedestal because they were boasting the 2.1 aperature, and it did very well with photos. However the Note 3 takes great photos, and I like some of the cool effects it can do. I mean, I have a DSLR, but this is really great for on the go stuff - night shots are great too!

Then of course there's the screen and stylus. Now this impressed me the most, because I didn't find out until later that the stylus is actually a wacom stylus, and the screen can actually ignore all finger touches and let the pen take over. This way, I don't have the cursor jumping around with other palm, finger or misc touches. In addition to that, it's a pressure sensitive stylus that comes with Sketch Pro!! So my strokes are very organic and fluid.

Last buy not lesat is the watch or "gear." I think there's a lot of potential with this watch, and I'm waiting for the ability to add an app launcher to it so you can launch programs from your phone. The other note3 on my account is using the pedometer; I've been consistently using it for a lot of stuff. Especially when I'm at work, and my phone is silent, my watch can notify me of things so I don't miss them. GREAT GREAT GREAT!

As a person who once hated Samsung, I really appreciate this phone and what it can do. Even as a techie person, I was actually surprised by the amount of usability this phone has to offer.

Squaretrade vs bestbuy protection thoughts?

Looking at the worth ave group insurance just mentioned here, but any comparisons to the Best Buy coverage? Square Trade? I have an S4 I bought outright, and got the bestbuy protection as they said no deductible, local stores and a little less expensive than Sprint per month etc. I have square trade on a tv but have never had to use it, and no experience with it on a phone.... will be getting the note 3 soon full price so as not to extend contract, and was wondering which way to go.

Best Buy does have a deductible of $150. They changed this policy as of September 1st. If you got the phone after September, then Best Buy misinformed you.

Well that narrows my decision a bit. Same as sprint now I guess. Just never had experience with the Worth group or Square Trade on a phone.

Anyone with eithers experience, are they ok with ahem, "rooted" phones or will that void their warranty payment if something happens.

Got my first claim check from Worth Ave five working days (last Monday) after getting my son's Jellybombed Note 2 screen replaced. Had the repair job done within one hour, at a repair shop twenty minutes from where I live.

Had the policy for his phone nine months, bought one for mine two days after leaving the Sprint store.

Good company, but I highly recommend doing your research, and pick the policy that's right for you. I personally (emphasis on I) would never pay for a retailer or mobile provider's protection plan. Too profitable for them, too expensive for me. That stated, to each his or her own.

I hope this helps.

Thanks micmars, I just bought a one year plan with Worth Ave. Group. Since I've seen other coupon codes posted, I guess it's okay to post the one I found. "LikeUs" will give you 15% off. After their $5 service fee, their $67 plan was $61.95. Such a deal! :D

One question though, they asked for the phone's serial number. Sprint doesn't list that in settings so I used the decimal MEID. Do you or anyone know if that's it or where to find the real one? There isn't one on the box either.

I called and just said "hit me up with coupon code. I'm old school, I like to talk to people." They're quite friendly, Oklahoma style. Got the same deal. They tell you on the call that the MEID works just fine.

Within thirty seconds and still on the phone, I had the dec page to my policy in my inbox, unique to my device. But that was during business hours. Buying online should yield the same result.

I asked a ton of questions with each policy, last December 2012 when I bought my son's Note II, and last week with this phone. After having exhausted the hypotheticals, I pulled the trigger and called it a day.

You should be good-to-go.

Has anyone, throughout the years, always downloaded an essential app for all their phones? There's a couple of apps that I've emailed the devs asking them to make a pro or key or donate version of their app, because I use it so much, and love it, yet they don't seem to release a paid version. I know many people are cheap, but there sometimes comes a time in which an app, that you always download on a new phone or fresh install. I've emailed two devs, just before posting this, almost begging them to let me give them a dollar or two for a better or donate app, yet they have not done so or responded to me. Does anyone feel like I do, with some free apps out there, that you think are worthy of showing your support and appreciation?

I asked about donating to a dev about one of those must have apps, and here's the answer I got (truncated by me):

"...lots of folks refuse [donations] because they don't want to make any implication of someone being some sort of paid customer, with special rights. There are several elite developers who give crazy, highest quality work to us, and refuse donations."

This should not detract any from donating to those whom accept them, or buying apps that you like, yet perhaps explains things.
