ummm, this case ROCKS.... it improves the functionality of the phone (not that I do not love the design, but the volume rocker and power button are so smooth, you had to "try" to press them).

Now the rubber volume and power button stand out much farther, and only require a light press..... very impressed. Another think I loved vs my ip4 one, the rubber is on the inside vs the outside.... and it really protects the camera now!

Yea, but the way I go through phones, its all about protection for me.... and without a case, this bad boys camera is in jeapordy, imo

Got a nice response a little while ago (after a day or two of no response) from otterbox.com about my order which was showing four times. It's shipped now and got the tracking number, and they thanked me for pointing out that a lot of us in Australia and NZ (and probably other countries too) have had strange problems with their ordering system.

So, I think they are a bit disorganized at the moment (keep in mind they switched to a new site engine etc this month) but I wouldn't have a problem recommending purchasing from them.

Haven't got the case yet so can't comment on that but looking forward to it!

I have mixed feelings about the Otter case, I really like the double-layered protection it gives but I don't like the huge Otter logo and the bulkyness it seems to cause; the holes around the lens, the 2 leds and the speaker look like they are now an inch deep

I also think the buttons are sticking out way too much which I find very ugly and I don't like the different dual tone style/material in the corners, had preferred if it was made as a solid one piece completely black body ...

Hmm, I think I've just convinced myself .... I'm gonna look for a different case :)

It only looks that way in the pictures. It is not bulky in any way. If you use if for a while with the case on, and then take it off, you realize a bare DHD is way too thin. All the holes used for the camera, flash, and speaker look very nature in person. Same with the logo. In person it is very shallow, and you don't even notice it really.

I also think the buttons are sticking out way too much which I find very ugly and I don't like the different dual tone style/material in the corners, had preferred if it was made as a solid one piece completely black body ...

I thought that way too about the buttons, but again, in person you don't notice them sticking out. Plus they are soft rubber, and you can easily trim them down with a razor blade. The corners are the soft inner shell for a reason. They absorb shock better. The reason for a case is protection. I would rather the case absorb shock than hit a hard area, and vibrate the shock to the phone.

To each their own. I think it is the best case for any phone. Good luck finding one that is better. :)

Ok, My case arrived today, and just went for a walk with it tracking (cardiotrainer rules) to get a feel of it in my pocket etc. I agree totally with what's been said; this case is awesome!

It does add a bit more bulk which is noticeable at first but feels normal quickly. It doesn't make the phone uncomfortable in my hand or pocket, it's not a problem for me. And you can feel how much protection the phone is getting, this is solid. I love the 2 layer approach from a design point of view - the outer hard plastic spreads out the shock and then the inner silicone absorbs it. It also means that it's not sticky in your hand or pocket, the hard plastic shell feels nice in the hand actually, has a slight texture to it.

My only complaint is entirely my fault - I messed up the installation of the screen protector, I didn't get it on in quite the right location when I put it down and then tried to pull it up to move it, and now the bottom isn't sticking down (the bit below the keys) - looks bad but it's not on the screen so not a big issue. Might try to trim that bit off (and leave the HTC logo exposed, the horror!) or just get another screen protector.

My sister also has a desire HD so when she gets back I'll take some shots comparing her phone without a case to mine, give a better idea of how much bulk is added.

Oh and the volume rocker and power button are fine, they look like they stick out a lot in the photos but in reality it's pretty minimal. They aren't the easiest to press and the response is ok but not great - but considering what the button below it is like I think they have done a great job, it's certainly an improvement :)

Neat acessory - now you can actually find the on/off and volume keys in the dark!

To bad it wont fit in my active brodit cradle - can't live without it!

So, is this any better then a Case-Mate Barely There case?

Got word that they will release the Desire HD version pretty soon.

Case-Mate or Otterbox? What's better and furthermore, the difference?

Edit..Can't post links yet.

I'm not sure about the Barely There case, but I have a Case-Mate Tough Case for my Nexus One, and the OtterBox Commuter case for my DHD, and they are pretty alike. Made the same way with soft inner, and hard outer. The Tough Case has a slightly softer/grippyer (if that's a word) feel. I am happy with both. I wouldn't say I prefer one over the other.

What I need now: A dock for my bedside (alarm, so a speaker that stays off but gets trigged by the signal level from the phone would be awesome, don't think anyone makes something like that though), and a car dock (a built in speaker would be awesome, since the DHD built in one wouldn't be great on a noisy road), both supporting a phone in the otterbox since taking it off isn't something I would want to do daily.

I can't even seem to find a decent universal dock though, so not sure my chances of finding one of these is very good. OtterCases, anyone?

How quick/easy can the case be taken off?

I already have a screen protector, is the one supplied special?
It's not that hard to take it off. It's on pretty good, but if you pry one of the corners, it gets to a point where you can pull, and it comes off easy. You do have to try to take it off, it won't just fall off, so there is some work involved, but I would rather it that way, so at least I know it won't come off during a fall. I don't use screen protectors, so I don't know if there is anything special about them, but they look like any plain ones you would get.

Trimmed inner case pics

OK so I'm playing Angry Birds, and the volume buttons are annoying me, so I decided to trim them. Well I must say I'm glad I did. Not only is the case perfectly even all around now, the buttons are still very easy to push and use. I trimmed both the volume buttons, and the power button. I used a razor blade to trim them even with the case on, and then I took the case off, and used sand paper to smooth any rough edges the razor blade made. I like the result very much.
