I believe I have finally found out that I have bought this OUKU Unbranded headunit. Been doing some research to find out the model and make and all that. Any ways, Can I be pointed in the right direction to root and put custom roms on this device? Currently I don't like the way it's setup from the way it came. It has Android 4.4.4 With the MCU version 4.3.14-1-10-610101-150525 and the system version 2.9.5_20150722. Much help appreciated thanks.

Which hu have you bought, the one in OP? Isn't that an very outdated one?

The 6.2 DD HU Yes I believe. Regardless if it's outdated or not. It has 4.4.4 Kitkat on it. These units can be rooted and put a custom rom on it. That's why I added my System Version and MCU in the begin with. So I can be pointed in the right direction to help me do so.

Mind sharing what made you chose this one? Is it better than many other android head unit out there?

I honestly liked it because it has the dials and buttons on both sides. I didn't know what type of Android version I was going to get or how the GUI was gonna be set up. After getting it. It didn't have a 2nd SD slot as I hoped for gp. But it does have 8GB interal flash storage which is a pain because all other apps for music doesn't recognize the SD card as storage. Just the internal. That's why I want to change the ROM and root the thing.

So I just bought the windows ce version of this unit http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00MD...0_QL65&keywords=double+din+car+stereo+android. I was wondering, since it's made by the same company and the hardware seems the same, is their a way to install the Android os instead of having the windows ce os? Thank you for your help.

Thanks,

I only bought this head unit because it was suppose to work with the torque app!

Anybody have the screen go out? It will flash whitish when it powers on, but it never displays the splash screen or interface screen any more. It powers on, I can hear radio static over the speakers. I can't reset it or change anything. I had it pulled out of the dash to check the antenna power lead.

Was there any rom updates? I am running 2.3.7 that is posted to on the wiki. This stereo has work perfectly for years for me. I upgrade to the rooted 2.3.7 around 2 weeks ago and I need to upgrade the Google Playstore Framework. It failed. I wondered if there was a 4-6.0 upgrade? Or if anyone new how to upgrade the Play Store Framework.

I have one of these, entirely stock. Bought from Ali.
Working one day, now it's just gone absolutely blank. Nothing. Nil. Zilch.
The only thing that happens is if I hold down the on-off button, the electric aerial goes up and down, so power is getting in somewhere.
But the screen doesn't light up or anything (not even a backlight)

Any ideas? I really CBA sending this back to China.

I also have bought such a device. With all parameters you noted ...
I have a problem with the wifi and Bluetooth

---------- Post added at 11:29 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:24 AM ----------

Hello,
Just purchased my 6.2 Double Din:
CPU: A9 Dual Core
Android: 4.2.2
MCU: 4.3.10.1-1-10-612101
Sys Vers: 2.8.8

When I insert a Micro SD card in the front slot the card is mounted by the system. It shows up in the storage section of settings and the stock players can read the card and play music and videos.
What is strange is that ES File Explorer cannot see the card (or some setting is preventing me from getting to the device root perhaps) and any 3rd party mp3 players from the play store (Shuttle for example) do not find media on the card.
1) Is this another limitation of hardware/software interface in this unit or do I have a setting issue or a defect?
/*** UPDATE - File Explorer sees the card now, was not letting me get to / directory originally. Still music players do not see the media on the card, I have tried 3, strange. Card works fine with media players in my phone's external SD slot. ****/

Additionally, disappointed that the microphone does not work in the unit for anything other than the stock Bluetooth phone app (I knew in some units this was a problem from a different post here, but was hoping).
2) Is this perhaps a setting?
3) Could I possibly ROOT and use a Bluetooth dongle and a headset for voice input to apps such as google maps?

The ebay seller mentioned something about the IPOD interface when I asked about the microphone input to other apps.
4) Is it possible to use pinouts on the IPOD to get a microphone input to the device? Doesn't seem realistic to me.

Cheers,
JL

I made a new version of my custom firmware. You can find it here.

I added the loader for the radio with a capacitive screen in the archive.
    Thanks 949BFN !

If you have a radio with a capacitive screen, before firmware update, you must replace ”u-boot-skip.bin” file with “u-boot-skip.bin.capacitive” (rename by removing .capacitive)

Okay, I uploaded firmware to Dropbox https://www.dropbox.com/s/e01g7pqifx66uoe/2013.3.26.MCU+2.10.8-1-10-1+system+2.13.6+Hal9k.rar

Changes made by me regarding stock version:
    • Builtin root (Superuser)
    • Support USB Bluetooth dongle to connect to the OBD2 ELM327 adapter with Bluetooth interface.
    • Support OBD2 ELM327 adapters with USB interface based on FTDI and pl2303 chips.
    • Ability to connect to Wi-Fi networks using the mode AdHoc, including OBD2 ELM327 adapters with Wi-Fi interface.
    • Supports large disks with NTFS through FUSE module
    • Automatically create APN settings in 3G-modem
This firmware is made to Android 2.3.7.
To get work Torque with USB OBD2-adapter, you must create file /etc/carit_version2 with "finland_rds_ru" line inside and assign permissions rw- r-- r-- to it.

Firmware with root and bluetooth OBD 2

    hi everyone
I made a modified firmware for my Car Stereo TH8581 (is the same as Ouku) which adds root and support for external USB-Bluetooth adapters to connect Bluetooth ELM 327 (OBD 2)

Figured I would update the ROM to include steering wheel controls for all Android apps (there is only Next, Prev and Play/Pause, since there is no steering wheel control function for Stop and FFWD and RWD don't seem to work).

    There are 4 versions:

    Resistive USB OBDII SW Controls.zip
    - This is for resistive screen units that use a USB OBDII dongle with Torque Pro
Resistive BT OBDII SW Controls.zip - This is for resistive screen units that use a BT OBDII dongle with Torque Pro
Capacitive USB OBDII SW Controls.zip - This is for capacitive screen units that use a USB OBDII dongle with Torque Pro
Capacitive BT OBDII SW Controls.zip - This is for capacitive screen units that use a BT OBDII dongle with Torque Pro

For anyone that doesn't want to flash a full rom, you can just place the keypad.kl file in the /system/usr/keylayout/ folder.

Controls will only work when none of the native apps (Ipod, Radio, DVD, TV, AuxIn, etc) are active, controls have been tested with Pandora, AOSP Gingerbread Music Player and Muisc Player Pro, but should work with pretty much any media player.

Credit to @donaldta for helping me figure out the correct name for the keylayout file

Use at your own risk. The updates don't include any MCU update so you should be safe to flash regardless of your MCU version.
This firmware is for the Ouku unit.

For the sake of completeness I will update this post to show everything included in the most recent ROM:
Based on the one from 7/16/13 originally edited by Hal9K_
    Built in root (Superuser)
Support USB Bluetooth dongle to connect to the OBD2 ELM327 adapter with Bluetooth interface.
Support OBD2 ELM327 adapters with USB interface based on FTDI and pl2303 chips.
Ability to connect to Wi-Fi networks using the mode AdHoc, including OBD2 ELM327 adapters with Wi-Fi interface.
Supports large disks with NTFS through FUSE module
Automatically create APN settings in 3G-modem
/cache fix allows downloading of large apps from the Play Store.
Added cp210x.ko module for support of additional USB OBD2 adapters.
Added keypad.kl file for support of SW controls in all Android apps.

    Torque Pro USB versions include:
carit_version2 file in /system/etc folder this allows Torque Pro to automatically use the supported USB OBD2 adapters.

If you don't plan on using Torque Pro you can download either version for your screen type.

Hey, Gerry from YouTube here. Thanks for starting this thread. I hope this unit and units like it get some love in the future. I'd be thrilled to see some version of CyanogenMod on this thing. ;)

Here's my video review if anyone is interested.
