is this an easy method?
If you mean the one on this thread, it is easy once you get adb set up, which is sometimes difficult. And it will not work if you are updated to 2.0.5.

I think an easier method is to use my bootable CWM card to flash some zips. Look in my signature for my HD CWM thread.

No, you are stuck with the name test and unknown owner. If you want your own name on it, reset again, let it update to 2.0.5, register and use my CWM and zips to root and install gapps. Look at my CWM thread linked in my signature.

You have to be running 2.0.4 or older. B&N broke the ability of this all-in-one to work on 2.0.5.

Go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature to root 2.0.5.

The allinone does not work anymore if you have version 2.0.5 or higher. See my last two posts here.

Just wanted throw my two cents in for those who haven't rooted yet.

I had the factory 2.0.0 that auto updated itself to 2.0.2, or 2.0.4 when I loaded it up. I rooted with the allinone and it was pretty easy, but sort of clunky with ADB. I was a little worried about having to redo everything on the nook since I spent a while on stock before rooting. I had to start over when I rooted.

I got the surprise upgrade to 2.0.5 one day, and held off on rooting because I was afraid of losing stuff, and having to reconfigure all my apps again. the CWM method is super easy, and doesn't take more than a few minutes once you've burned the image to the micro-sd card. It's also really easy to make a backup in case you're worried. Oh, and all my data was preserved and intact.

I'm on 2.04, I bypassed the registration so I'm labeled as test, I have ADB enabled. adb shell sees my Nook HD, but I can not root this thing. I've factory reset 5 times now as well, running on windows 8 64 bit and using cmd prompt with administrative rights, here's my cmd output, any help please?

It sounds like you do not have the files you need in the folder you are running the command prompt from. For instance, it cannot find gapps-ics-inst.sh.img. You have that file in your folder? A lot of no such file or folder responses. Do you see those unzipped files there along with allinone.bat?

Are you aware of this more recent and easier method for rooting from LeapinLar? (unless you don't have a microSD card)

yes agree. I'm on Win 8 64 bit and I had a real hard time getting allinone to run. I finally did get it by splitting it into two parts, But I was still having a few issues and was not registered so then I did the micro-SD method and it works great.

All-in-one does not work on versions higher than 2.0.4. You need to go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature. It has what you need.

EDIT: Based on the number of downloads I am getting from my server of the gapps-ics-system.zip, a lot of folks are still trying to make this all-in-one work. It will not work on versions higher than 2.0.4. To save yourself some frustration, do not try.
