I am new to this. But at a guess recovery is not working properly.

Hopefully a more experienced person will answer you.

I appreciate you taking the time to think about this and reply! Hopefully I can get this straightened out with the help of a veteran user. I am completely new as well...obviously lol.

FYI...for those that run into the problem I did...You have to reboot the device AFTER putting the SD card in with the new image. Otherwise it will not find the card and will not let you browse to the image. Installed fine after that woohoo!

That's exactly what I did and it solved the problem. It won't recognize the sd card until you reboot your Xoom into recovery.

unlocking xoom 2

I thought i would try and see if the method in post#1 would work on my xoom 2 10.1. It didn't. 'adb reboot bootloader' rebooted device into AP Flashboot Flash Mode (s) see attached image. Unfortunatley once the device has rebooted into this mode my laptop no longer sees my xoom 2 (obviously it did before). Tried detaching and re-attaching USB cable, but that made no difference. I would note that no USB cable was supplied with device so just using generic one. Any suggestions on how to move forward with trying to unlock my xoom 2. For those who dont know holding down volume up and down and power together poduces this menu:
Available Boot Modes:
Normal Powerup
Recovery
Ap Fastboot
BP SBF Flash
BP only
BP HW Daig Boot-AP
BP Tools
navigate with vol down select with vol up. Though not all options are easy to access eg recovery after selecting you need to press vol up and down together again to get recovery menu.

The Xoom 2 is a different animal altogether. I'm sure an exploit will be found, hopefully soon, but you will be using a different method to root when that happens. You still will need the android sdk, etc...

I will try to remember to add this tip to the instructions. Thanks guys.

yes i am aware that the xoom 2 is quite different. I was only tring to unlock my device not root it. As i said i was following instructions in post #1 it is fair to assume i was using android SDK (shift right click in platform-tools to opene cmd). I suspect once it is unlocked rooting should not be to hard. unfortunately even though this is my 4th android tablet i am still a novice. The difficulty i faced using adb reboot booloader or adb reboot recovery is that once in these modes my laptop no longer sees my device. The mode i am getting is not the same as active protocol fastboot. I think i got something like that once through random pushing of vol up and down and power, but now can only get screens metioned in my post. Again any thoughts or info on a way forwrard would be appreciated

Just to be sure:

This guide can be used for the european wifi/3g version of the xoom?
Or is it only for the us-version?

There's an ICS build that supports 4G (which lets you kick over to 3G if needed), not sure if it'll work on pure 3G devices or on Euro 3G, only way to find out is to do a backup of your current ROM, flash the 4G ICS ROM and try it, if it doesn't work just restore your backup.

Good info, but the one that supports 4G is for the US 3G/4G LTE only. The Euro 3G and US 3G (that did not upgrade to 4G LTE) are not yet supported. For those, it is recommended to flash the wingray (WiFi) version for now.
