Yup, I screwed up somewhere and now I gotta cry for newb help. Made it all the way to flashing cwm img, made it into recovery and flash cwm zip from there, rebooted and tested a root app (Titanium Backup)... no luck. Went back into android recovery and got the green bot with ! and now adb doesn't recognize my device when i try "adb remount adb shell rm /system/recovery-from-boot.p" from command. So I'm stuck at the green bot with ! exclamation

Also, did you re-enable debugging mode after reboot?

Are you still stuck? You should flash the root file after the Eos rom and the GApps...the Eos rom is pre-rooted.
I am mostly up and running. I did a wipe and then I was able to boot normally. My only problem now is that I cannot gain root access. I have gone back multiple times and installed the zip files in the following order:

Eos-stingray-28
EOS_GApps_ics_4.0.3_v10.3
Xoom-Universal-Root

You mention that the Eos ROM is pre-rooted. Does that mean that I don't need to install the Xoom-Universal-Root.zip file?

Once I get root access I should be good to go, I am loving ICS so far.

Thanks for your help.

Don't flash the Universal Root file. You won'tneed it. Wipe data, cache and dalvik cache, flash Eos rom and Eos GApps one after another without a reboot in between, and then reboot into the OS.

That worked. I am up and running ICS with a rooted Xoom. Life it good!

Thank you so much for your help.

Thanks okantomi, the guide helped and yes i had checked usb debug (hate admitting I messed up the easiest part)... my adb experience is minimal but i figured out i needed to mount system in cwm before adb remount and that did the trick! Deleted those OTA files and am now successfully rooted. Funny how those light bulb moments comes so much quicker when you're not trying out during the wee hours.

K, after a couple of days i was struggling to decide if to take the leap of fate (used to rooting and flashing my sg2) and root my xoom as well :)

(leap of faith because i was on australian optus after OTA update to 3.2 ... no way to really backup anything in case things go fubar :)

all's well and working ... got rooted 3.0.1.

tried update through system. got to see the dreaded green droid of death.
flashed mooray, and going to give the ice cream a bite as soon as it finished dling :)

cheers mate.

hehe ...reminds me of a good salsa song ... http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=salsa%20welcome%20to%20the%20party&source=web&cd=3&ved=0CDAQtwIwAg&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DC-bn4ngmUDs&ei=HskgT8LmD4_IrQfJvvnDCA&usg=AFQjCNFcYWjrNRyoLvrraHhd937do1Kaqg&sig2=NdrE0K-BHEauptQGDW2l-g&cad=rja

in any case, i think i had a bug in mooray, couldn't write from comp to xoom (not with usb cable, nor with wifi explorer ...). in any case, didn't back it up because of that and went for ICS ... now it's time to play with it (last time finished installing at 3 am :)

i think there was a 3g thread about icecream and xoom as well ... i'll give it a try and report there as well, might help someone....

How are you doing with the ICS rom? Do you love it?

hmm ...it's good ...
installed go launcher ex on it ... and still not sure which launcher works best for me.

got the water live wallpaper from another thread here ... love it.

the only thing is, that even though it's over clocked to 1.4 , it still doesn't feel half as smooth and fast as my galaxy s2 ... probably because it has more pixels to push all in all, but still, sometimes feels a bit laggy :(

besides that, all good :)

Go into developer settings and turn off animation (or set to .5) that makes a real difference in smoothness. There are lots of little tweaks you can do.

ok ... will give it a go ... :)
i guess there's lot to learn yet ...

at the moment the mental note for the day is research the difference between my phone and tablet ... apk that work on phone won't work on tablet ... thought they should ... will research that...

also, installed swype 3 beta on it, and having lag issues ... will have a look at tweaks for xoom as well :)
(talking about swype, i'm rather quite happy with the default keyboard to tell the truth ... )

i'll update

I use the Hackers Keyboard...very close to using a regular keyboard. Plus it has a financial keyboard setting with number pad. Check it out.

Xoom Updated to TEAM EOS ICS but can not root

I have updated my Xoom to the latest build of ICS by TEAM EOS. I have installed gapps and recovery. I went into recovery and installed the Root zip file and then rebooted. I can not get root access. I have opened up the shell via adb and have root there. I can see the su binary in /system/bin. I have chmod it to 755 for executable. I see the superuser.apk there. but I can not go into a terminal or any other program and gain root access. it just says permission denied in the terminal. The root package successfully installs and there are no errors. Anyone else have any ideas as to why it will not work?

You should just install Eos rom, latest GApps zip and you will be rooted. No need to flash Xoom root file afterwards! Are the instructions not clear. Please let me know if they need fixing.

The instructions were clear.. I just did not see any notation in them regarding root. So my assumption was that you needed to do the root package. I usually do due diligence after installing but it was 2:00 am and I just did not realize that root was probably provided. I will just wipe and reinstall, avoiding the root package.

Thanks for the reply.

Update: I just reinstalled the EOS and gapps and root works. Sometimes you just have to be awake and alert to get things right.

Yeah, I know all about that, lol! Especially with these nightlies, I'm flashing before I'm actually awake!
