Are you doing this from scratch? Or have you done verygreen version of root b4?
This seem like there is something blocking you to put the sbin_mount file at /data/su.
run this command and tell us what you see.
adb shell ls -l /data/su/
Yes I did verygreen verson before, well I tried. And I can access su but can't see what's inside. Here are the result

Code:
C:\ADB>adb shell ls -l /data/su/
opendir failed, Permission denied

The problem is as part of verygreen 's root mod he changed permissions to lock down his mod so that they could not be inadvertently tampered with. Those files are there. Are you sure you are not already rooted by that first attempt? But you should be able to see and modify /data/su.

Yeah but you see I have permission denied. I tried to go to Root folder and get permission denied again.

You think if I make my nook to go to forced factory reinstall after 8 reboots and try again, that would help?
That's it. I manufacture rebooted the device to state 1, and ran makeroot again. Success. Thanks all.

If you can't force yourself into 8 bootloop then try reapply verygreen root method then force 8. bootloop.
If that doesn't work, get into the nook first and do a factory reset there, it shpuld wipe everything in /data. then apply his root again and then do 8 bootloop. thatshpuld clear everything.

Su gives me nothing actually an error. Re-applying didn't work either. What I did is went to settings and de-register the device and manufacturer reload. Once that happened I reapplied modified makeroot and everything went successfully.

Hmm, that's interesting. I have updates blocked so that may be working for me. Also interested to see if you can still root, etc now. Give us feedback.

Edit: I just rebooted to see if update came. Nope. All is well. If anyone wants to know how I did it look at my HD+ tips thread linked in my signature.

In my frustration I wiped the device w/the 8 boot method and started from scratch. I realized that I had forgotten to do the step the first time to block OTA updates so after I got everything back up and running I downloaded SQLite Editor and followed your instructions to change the com.bn.device.fota.mode from auto to manual.

I thought all was fine but then a few weeks later, to my surprise, I had a message that my Nook had updated to 2.0.4. (It had gone back to 2.0.2 when I redid it.) This time, though, it didn't wipe the device and remains rooted and all of my apps/Google continue to work. I am concerned that another update will come through and wipe me out again, though...

Use someone0's settings mod in the second post of my HD+ tips thread linked in my signature. That will positively turn off automatic updates.

Thanks, I saw that today and went ahead and ran it. Truthfully it doesn't look like anything has changed since the db value was already set to manual but fingers crossed that this will stop any further updates. As it stands, though, I'm running on 2.0.4 just fine right now (rooted/Googling/etc.) so at least we know root works w/that version of the BN OS.

That seem to be the consensus when people upgrade from 2.0.2 to 2.0.4 nothing changed. And BTW, now that there is an all-in-one mod. Applying it take about 3-4 mins.

Someone0 are you around can you pm me, Your root works, I installed nook color tools ver .02 in system/app folder and was able to see it in my sideloaded launcher, was able to uncheck/check install non market apps which sets the setting for US to be able to install .apk files from the nook itself, ONLY ISSUE is since I put that file in the system/app folder and the nook didnt like it I got stuck in a bootloop and get to start this process all over again! (nook resetted to ground zero)

maybe we temporary can leave it there get us the permission to install non market apps then remove the file and we will be ok or maybe stuck in another bootloop.

---------- Post added at 09:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:52 PM ----------

GOT IT WORKING NOW:

1. Once rooted, get a file manager with root support and enable read/write permission to /system

2. temporary copy nook tools ver .02 .apk to the system/app folder

3. have a sideloaded launcher and check the app drawer youll see nook tools, run it, first screen uncheck and check the install non market apps box couple of times make sure its checked afterwards

4. have a test .apk to run the BN installer on and see you can now install .apks from the NOOK HD and HD+

5. remove the nook tools.apk file from the system/app folder and quit your file explorer which should reset everything for the system folder back to the way it orginally is!

6. reboot, if you reboot successfully with no boot loop 8 times, your GOLDEN FOR NOW! once again load up a file manager go select an .apk file and see you can now install it! Next step is trying to get amazon market working! then google somehow, but for google you need files in system/app folder permanently!

7. YOU CAN NOW SUCCESSFULLY DOWNLOAD .APK FILES through web, email, any other app and install through the NOOK HD or HD+ BN installer for .apk files. Watch what you install, if it gets put into /system or /system/app folder DREADED BOOT LOOP which resets everything! AMAZON MARKET WORKS!!!! and apps from there install fine to the BUILT IN MEMORY.

** Hopefully amazon market dont install stuff to the system/app folder and if it does hopefully you do not get the dreaded boot loops where you got to start this whole process over again so be forwarned!!! you will loose all data on NOOK HD and HD+ if u get stuck in the bootloops! BACKUP STUFF before messing with root and this kind of thing! DEVELOPMENT!
+1 this

I haven't read the whole thread, so I don't know if someone has figured it out but with this method you can install the Swype keyboard just fine I even rebooted with no resets!

Yes this method does work, but there are improved methods that are easier. See my HD+ tips thread linked in my signature for links to improved methods.

EOCD not found

I'm attempting to root a friends nook hd+ on a different computer as I already rooted mine on the other. My problem I'm having is when I attempt to run the makeroot.bat file to root it I get an error

"EOCD not found, not Zip file 'makeroot.bat' is not a valid zip file"

I never encountered this error when I rooted mine. What am I missing here?

ADB is set up and the nook shows up when I type adb devices. Thanks for your help.

I only have the smaller 7" nook hd one, but it was very easy so I'm good. I'm wondering though is there a CM build for the that smaller nook hd?

Is there any method for rooting using a Mac? I've been looking through the threads but I haven't seen anything..
Most people don't have a mac, but the install should be the same as linux. My all-in-one method does include the batch file as well as shell script file. Just try the shell script file instead.
