I'm considering picking this phone up as I currently have a Nexus 6 and it's looking like the end is near, it's a great phone but from what I hear 7.1.1 is it for that phone and I think the Pixel is just too expensive, so far it appears that you guys love this phone.
Same here,I really like the 6P and I'm wanting to pick one up, But... I'm a bit concerned about "boot loop of death" and reported battery issues for some. Is there anything like production date or any hints on what to look out for/avoid?

Mine was less than two years old and my battery started to shut off around 50 percent so I replaced it and dinged up my back cover because its in there good I would say be prepared to change the battery on this phone its unavoidable but it does fix it.

School me :) Is the "blod" caused by battery issues?
I don't feel like spending $800 for a new phone and would rather get a "pre owned" :) 6P - change battery & do what ever else may be necessary right away and roll on

No, replacing the battery will only fix early shutdown/ degraded battery issues. 6Ps with BLOD have been recovered but it requires using just 4 cores which obviously limits performance.

I had: Iphone 4, Iphone 5, note 3, xiaomi redmi note 2, motorola nexus 6....
Nexus 6p is the best one by far. It's the telephone with the best sensations ever.
I have had more phones than I can remember . I really like the 6P alot, but I also liked the Sony Xperia I had before that. Had it not got broken, I might still have it. I bought the ZeroLemon extended battery, it works great too.

I did some quick research and took a dive in with a second hand 64Gb model. Found out about the bootloop of death and poor battery later. Still work with my Nexus 7 2012 3G and N7 2013 LTE. They're still serviceable
with custom ROM's. Took a trial with a Blu Studio G Plus and got it rooted with one of the "commercial" mods I think King Root or something like that. Am afraid to do a custom ROM as no one can find stock ROMS that are
easily accessible for BLU stuff I can trust. It was a $49.00 phone so no big deal. Still works. The Nexus stuff is straight forward to root and that's why I went with the 6P. Don't know if I would have bought it if I was aware
about the "issues" that that's o.k.

Well after upgrading adb on my Linux laptop (the old Ubuntu stock adb didn't have fastboot) , I got the boatloader unlocked and rooted.. Then stuck the 8.1.0 OPM 5.17-xxxx latest in and it works fine. Rooted with Magisk. Well that was simple. Am doing a battery run and seeing how it performs. I haven't had any issues yet and do like it. Am prepared to deal with the bootloop but I guess the new stock ROM probably has that addressed. It's nice and I take pride in seeing how well some of the old hardware performs with updated ROMs. Sheesh the N7 2012 3G is a little slow at loading up XSDL/GnuRoot and the linux program Xastir but once it gets going, it's pretty decent. The N7 2013's do a bit better with speed even though they are old.

Once I do some run tests I'll determine whether or not the battery needs a changeout. Am like others that I don't want to lay out big $$$$$$ that the purveyors of this "heroin-ware" engineer to be disposable once something gives out.
(ie. an involved battery swap out on the 6P) I've swapped batteries out on my other Nexus tablets with little difficulty but the 6p is a little more involved. I'll probably get new case hardware in the event I ding it up bad.) Kurt

Used a 64gb Nexus 6P for over a year, never had the BLOD. Started looking into the Pixel and Pixel2....ended up buting a refurbed 128gb 6P....couldn't be happier. Why? I love the option of the 3.5mm cable or using bluetooth, and I love the from stereo speakers. May just buy another.

2 years 8 months and counting.
Replaced battery after 1/8 due to shutdowns in 5-15 percent and replaced a motherboard in the first two months due to an uncalibrated Gyroscope(stupid reason that could have been fixed by a calibration tool).
Still runs just fine on 8.1 stock rooted with xposed and substratum.
The camera still manages to compares to the iPhone X in real life scenarios and with a much better portrait mode(using NX camera)
The only thing I hate about the phone is the damn processor that even a 625 outperforms by far...

All right ended up with a data leak on an older version of Firehound I'm trying to plug. Going to wipe'r clean and do a stock install from my linuxbox, you know the "fastboot flash this or that file" after unzipping the stock rom.

TWRPing the thing and rooting with Magisk. Going to reload my apps one by one to find the leak. I've got the thing locked down as much as I could to start with and strangely I started losing data starting September 16th.
I pulled the sim and plopped it into my 64Gb 6p and it's "leaking" less.

Get Accubattery, Cpu Hibernation app and Greenify and pay for them. I've still got 100% capacity after 8 months on the two units. I fastidiously only charge to 80% capacity like recommended and it's making a big difference on longevity. I turn off at night and I charge the thing every 2 to 3 days with varying levels of use.
Oh, I bought the "tools" to do battery swaps and I find it no big deal the replacements don't have the temperature chip on them. Just get a bat that is highly rated by the users and don't charge to 100% and only go to 80%. Run it down to 20 or better yet 30% and bring back up to 80%. (Based on Accubattery).

People paying a grand for a disposable phone that can't be rooted and is a PITA to change out a battery are
lambs to slaughter. I see 6p's are going for 130 to 150 bucks for 128GB ones. Unlock the bootloader as soon as you can and you'll have no issues. Just remember to ONLY lock the bootloader if you wipe and reload a
STOCK ROM that's been hacked to only run on 4 cores. You unlock the bootloader and load an aftermarket ROM, never, never, never, never lock the bootloader with a custom ROM. Totally ignore the startup screen.

When I wipe a system and reload a stock ROM for 4 core use, I have to lock the bootloader at the end of the reload cycle from my linux box in order to get it to boot. I immediately shut off Auto updating as fast as I can and get into the developer mode to unlock the bootloader before I go very far with setting up the system. I setup the device so I can stick in a custom rom and as soon as the bootloader is unlocked it wipes the thing anyways. Remember, as long as the bootloader remains unlocked, you'll avoid a blod as long as the
Quad core ROMs are used. Kurt
