Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the LG G8, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the LG G8 is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.

Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

I just received the phone today and I have to say lg is really giving options! And bringing it closer to pixel. Phone comes with the official pixel launcher! Identical pixel gestures, and a button for Google Assistant. I pushed it even further and swapped lg keyboard with the pixel and I'm loving it

Unpacked it yesterday after getting it for free from AT&T (joined as a 5th line on an existing family plan, so monthly plan is also cheap at $35 unlimited). Really love it so far.

EDIT: Nacho Notch app (doesn't require root) fixes the issues below regarding the inbuilt notch hiding only working with apps that don't try to change the color of the status bar. Also allows the home buttons to be blacked out (the inbuilt software allows you to change colors, but only allows light pastel colors: as mentioned below, this REALLY needs a dark mode).

The color tones are a little cold indoors, so I had to mess with that for a bit to get it just right. Other than that, my only real complaint is that the notch hiding doesn't work perfectly yet. I've set it so the status bar (which matches the depth of the notch) is supposed to always be black (so you basically have an always on status bar and can't see the notch in anything ever). It works on _most_ apps, but some key apps (like chrome) override the setting somehow so the status bar takes on the color it chooses, which makes the notch visible. I also wish I could make the home keys shorter to exactly match where the screen starts to curve (my goal is a perfectly rectangular main screen that still uses all screen real estate). I'm hoping these issues will be addressed in an update or custom rom.

Also needs a dark mode.

Everything else seems pretty great thus far.

So it's 2019 in typing this on my lg g6 which I preordered just over 2 years ago. It's been a REALLY solid phone besides 1 issue where I sent it back to to charging port no longer fast charging I NEVER had any issue with it. I bought it coming from my lg g3 which I loved after having came from a gs4. Well my g6 being 2 years old and basically truly outdated I've got that itch to hold something new and feel excited about my phone again. I've done different launchers and themes along with super slim cases and overly large cases just to make it feel different. It's been a great device well today I received my lg g8 thinq. I have to say that over all the 6.1" screen is lovely to look at and decent to hold. But using the software feature on a 2019 "flagship device" to hide a 2018 notch sucks and basically brings the device back to 5.8" screen so not much of a upgrade. Clearly the AMOLED vs the LCD change is instantly noticeable. IMO over saturated and fake but still nice looking. The skin is decent seemingly a Google launcher rip off with the LG UI over it slowing it down of course. Had it up and running for about 14 hours no2 and while it's not completely set up and back to how I like my phones to be I have to say. It's a rather decently disappointing "upgrade" from my g6.

Most likely will be sending it back but on a got a week return window & I installed s screen protector already so I'll rock it til mid week and test what I can before sending it back. I truly don't think this is a 2019 device at all. Let alone since I'm on Verizon and it'll NEVER be rooted even for exposed modules. Sad face for sure.

At this moment if anyone with a 2017 or newer device asked me if they should buy a g8 I'd have to tell them no. And being that I'm truly a LG fan boy that saddens me

Great Phone!

I've only had my LG G8 for two days but it has already impressed me as the best phone I've ever owned (and, until recently, I owned a Samsung Galaxy S10+). The display on the G8 rivals the best I've seen on Samsung phones, the fingerprint sensor is on the back where I prefer it and it works every time (as does the face unlock), battery life has been outstanding, and streaming to my hearing aids has been flawless, which was not the case with my S10+. By the way, I tried a phone call without my hearing aids and I could hear the caller clearly with the Crystal Sound OLED Speaker. I haven't used the hand gestures and I don't plan to. For me, those are gimmicks and, based on the reviews I've seen, they work about as well as the in-screen fingerprint sensor on the S10+ (which didn't work well for me). Again, I've only had the G8 for two days but I'm very impressed so far.

Also needs a dark mode.
I questioned if I could keep this device knowing other phones have it and this one doesn't. Until I found this...

Settings > Accessibility > Vision > High contrast screen

And this mode doesn't simply invert colors like the iPhone or other poorly implemented high contrast modes do. It's actually near perfect. It doesn't change certain apps (i.e. calendar, calculator, etc.) and notifications underneath the panel are still white, but overall, I'm very happy with the device now. I was able to uninstall all the terrible themes I was trying just to darken things up a bit.

I'm surprised they buried this in the accessibility settings. They should definitely make it easier to find.

Enjoy!

No kidding! It works very well, thank you. I'm not a huge fan of the default orange theme it imposes, but there's probably a way to change that also buried deep in the settings (it's very strange indeed that this is so hidden, dark mode is such a common request now, and can have a major impact on battery life, especially with an OLED).

my only complaint is the shutter sound on the camera. yeah, you can download other camera apps and turn volume off but come on. turn it off. so stupid
