I love the phone even without root/unlocking, since with current OS I only need to charge it every 3 or 4 days. It makes great pictures, no to mention it's speed to open up apps and huge storage (I got the 512GB version + 256GB nano SD card).

I have P30 Pro with 8GB of RAM and 256 GB of memory.
I like:
-camera, specially the portrait mode
-no lag in 2 months
-cool in usage when compared with Sansung S9, it only heats up when super charging
-huge battery life
-fast super charging
-infrared
-cheaper than S10/S10+
-fingerprint sensor works better than on S10
Don't like:
-I really miss in Contacts swipe to right to call and swipe to left to text. Is this so dificult to implement ?
-on camera I miss swipe to up to change rear/front canera and the ability to customize name of the photos.
-in standard launcher I cannot sort apps in folders in alphabetical order. Maybe it's possible and I didn't find out how to do it.
-software in general. I was a Samsung user since S2 Samsung software seems to be more organized, on P30 Pro there are some related settings on different places.
-the signal strenght seems a little lower than on S9. I have places on which LTE is not working on P30 Pro while on S9 used to work.
Whould I choose it again over S10 + ?
- Yes. I have friends with S10+ and for me P30 Pro is better, but S10+ is also great, it's more a matter of personal choices.

Upgraded from a Oneplus 6 here.

I'm a latecomer to the P30 Pro club, as I don't upgrade my phone every year. Used to do that but I feel nowadays the new phones are almost similarly feature packed and overhyped. I'm still pretty excited about the P30 pro..so much so I ordered like 5 cases to swap about whenever I feel like it..:p

I would say this is by far one solid phone to have, and I'm really glad I chose the P30 Pro over the S10+/Note 10+. The camera is class leading, and boy the Pro mode in the native camera app has so many settings.

Not only that, the charging speed is just insanely fast. Previously I thought Dash charge was fast..I was wrong. 40W Fastcharge is another level. Battery also can easily last me a day or more with heavy usage, such as playing PubG or CoD, constant checking of statuses on social media apps.

In short. I'm in love. Maybe dbrand skins next for my customization..

have you tested Android 10? It looks more solid and organized now :) definitely agreed with camera, very stable since I got this last year, can last a day without worrying of low battery :)

As for performance, random lost of performance when playing high end games after updating to Android 10, will observe further... no performance issues so far with last Android 9 version

Best phone i ever had! It performs fantastic, battery life is outstanding, cameras are among the best, Speakers are fine, call quality is good, signal is strong too! What else do you need from a phone today?
Only thing i miss from my previous phones is rooting and ability to switch ROMs, that's why i don't think my next phone will be Huawei again. But i won't change this phone for a long time i hope!

Took a gamble and it was sweeet...
Been a Samsung Galaxy user for many years till I got the S10 plus...
Felt like the S10 was very average... Especially considering it is a flagship model... Kinda boring actually... So although i just bought the S10, the P30 Pro intrigued me... After a short research i decided to take the jump...and boy it was an awesome jump...

Pros
Brilliant cameras
Great build
Loving EMUI 10
Long battery life
Superb fast charging feature
Infrared

Cons
No vibration control
No screen unlock via pattern
No stereo speakers

In fact even with S20 Ultra just out, i am actually looking forward to S40 Pro... Concerned abt not having Google apps on it though... Hopefully we can install it manually like Mate 30 Pro...

Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the Huawei P30 Pro, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the P30 Pro is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.

Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
No love whatsoever.. Hate the phone and would never purchase a Huawei product again....
I`m 52 and have always been a mobile phone enthusiast. I have rooted every phone ive owned since you were able to. I have had phones from Alcatel,HTC, Samsung, LG and Nokia and hands down this is the most un-liked phone I have owned.

Yeah my initial interest is fading too. Mostly because I've never had anywhere near the amount of screen-on time or extended battery life the phone was advertised as achieving.
I'm hoping to swap mine for a Mate 20X.

I had a V20 H990 DS and I loved it. I thought that was way better, taking into consideration it was released almost 4 years ago. And the removable battery was a big advantage for me.
But I'd recommend the P30 Pro, overall its a great phone and the cameras really are superb. Some dedicated photographers will disagree, but for the average user like myself i think the resulting pics are great.
There's no bootloader unlock, so no rooting and no custom ROMs. It does have GApps pre-installed. Huawei are not exactly quick with updates though.
As a daily driver it's fine, but I'm hoping to swap mine for a Mate 20X.
Have a read through this forum, give yourself a better idea of what others think and what problems they've encountered.

Good luck

Thank you so much for the detailed answer. I really love the camera on my V20, and the main reasons I'm considering changing it are:
1 - The batteries are getting to the stage where they are underperforming.
2 - I would love a better quality wide-angle camera
3 - Some apps, like PUBG Mobile I enjoy playing when I travel, are not working well at all.

I do need the Apps, that's why I was considering this one as the P40 Pro doesn't have a wide enough camera.

Overall, would you recommend it for some light gaming and photography?

You're welcome.
Yes I'd recommend the P30 Pro for both of your requirements, it's a great device.
I also think you should take a look at the Huawei Mate 20X, that's what I'm considering next. There are 2 models, a 4G and a 5G. I can't find any networks in the UK with the 4G model (which is older) so I'm looking for a good deal on the 5G.
The best about the 20X is the huge screen, 7.2". So it's a BIG phone but would suit both your requirements. And it also has GApps loaded.

Do your research, and good luck

Then I don't understand why you buyed this phone. It was already very clear that root and roms not available for this phone.

Yes, it is really possible to love a phone appearently. With over an year of use. This is the only phone where I am really thinking every now and then, man... what am I happy with this device.

It matches at so many points to my desires, the performance, the battery life, the camera, the hardware design, the software design that has a lot in common with apple, but with an android motor. Everything just works, and huawei actively improves the phone with updates from both android and huawei's EMUI.

Of course, phones perform better now than the have ever, however, with the experience of other brands, like samsung, LG, etc, this brand gives me the best feeling over a mobile device that I have ever had!
Durability seems also great. Nothing is perfect but this one got pretty close for what is available
