Overheat and video tear/stuttering

If I keep my chromecast plugged into the wall, it gets hot, that's normal.
If I keep watching streamed content (netflix, youtube) after some time the video will start to artifact, have color problems, flicker the screen, and the video will tear horizontally, where half the screen is still playing, but the other half is frozen for a few seconds.

It has happened on my pc monitor, and both of my tv's no matter which HDMI it is plugged into.
The main HDMI port I use on my tv is labelled HDMI MHL, so that should also be fine.

Does anyone know of a fix for this, aside from keeping it unplugged when I don't need it?

Should I contact support, and if they do will they issue a replacement?

Mine's been running 24/7 and I haven't encountered any of those issues, so I guess you may have a faulty unit. You should call support and ask for a replacement, because that isn't normal I think.
