Hi,

OpenBeta 38/29 is out!
I don't get it. Why releasing these ****ty pointless updates? Aren't the Security patches supposed to be released to ALL users every month? To regular customers, not just to us on Beta? They release security patches rather sporadically to standard users.
I wonder if they lied about 8.1 for OP3/T like they did back in the day for OPX.

OnePlus, we don't need to download almost 2 gig updates just to get launcher updates.

I don't think you quite understand how these security patches work. It's not just a single file they replace and that's it, easy..... They have to replace bits of code all over the system. This means it can have bugs as a result, which is why they release them as beta first...... Quite simple when you think about it.

So why do Google release them straight away? And other OEMs? It is easier than they make it out to be.

See here is the thing. Just because Google devices and the base code they shipped had these issues, that doesn't mean the OS on devices have these issues. People seem to forget that oems change just about every line of code Google sends them. So the issues might not even be on this devices version of android.

Wow it's like people think that oems only use skins. Which has never been the case. Not since windows mobile.

Yes, but releasing the patch few months after makes no sense.

With this back and forth on updates etc it reminds me of when I used to be heavy into PC's. Nvidia would release video card drivers in beta form, often they would work great, other times not so much but for other users, they'd work just fine. It's the same with Android and OEMs, it works with Android but maybe not exactly your phones board, camera, modem etc. Testing is always best and with OnePlus, they do initial in house testing and if it's green lighted, it was once private beta then it's released as an open beta, once comfortable with mass acceptance, bits and parts or the whole release will go live. We benefit as well as they.

Another example, take your car down to a tire shop and just have them install any old tire.. It won't work, yes it's a tire but the manufacturer has to adopt that compound, size etc to your particular vehicle.

IDK, makes sense to me..

While the frequency of updates have gone down which is acceptable in my personal opinion as the device is at end of life in terms of official support. But the main problem is their failure to still deliver 8.1 and updating security patches in 3-4 months. Maybe if they had not strayed away from stock android they might not have had so many issues or if they had added treble support.

May be this
I do know about that
But it's been a week after they release the betas for 5/T
Also what kind of bug takes this long to fix unless if they are trying to bring Treble support to OnePlus 3/T to make way for the Android P update

It's shouldn't have taken this long to fix a bug unless they are trying to bring Treble support for 3/T to make way for the final update of Android P to our device

We would like to inform you that treble support for 3T will be released soon.
However, the date have not yet released so we request you to stay tuned on our social media channels and forums for further updates.
I guess we have to wait. Their Twitter account isn't the most valuable/reliable source though.

BTW this is last open beta.
Then i do hope they release a stable 8.1 for us because OP3T is still within the 2 year update deadline so i am hopeful. Once they confirm there is no 8.1 OOS happening for OP3, i guess i'll finally resort to custom ROMs then.
