Do you know if the facer or watch maker app also use burn in image shifting? I've not looked into it. I'm holding off using custom faces till I can be sure they are safe

When the screen is in ambient mode, it will shift.
Whatever watchface is on.

Most watchfaces here are Oled friendly.

I'm not 100% sure that the link you provided are OLED friendly as some have heavy blue which will cause more burn in...

Just install the app, most watchfaces there have a oled friendly ambient mode, currently using these from creator Tuwak.

I have seen the screen shift at times when using them. But, it is still best to not have a watch face with anything but small or faint areas that are bright or blue most of the time. Best no bright and no blue in standby.

You can change the dim mode tint for items in any watch face with Facer or Watchmaker. So you can make them whatever you want. Most I use I have modified the dim mode colors to some degree.

I think you are overprotecting your screen. It's a watch, use it like a watch. It is a physical object ... with time it will show signs of wear and tear. That will only add to the look :).
Seriously , I've been using always ON mode since day one (30 oct 2014) and there is no sign of burn-in whatsoever. The trick is to choose carefully the watchface and its settings in dim mode. Active mode doesn't really matters as long as you are not displaying the same picture longer than few minutes (my timeout is set at 10 seconds, btw).

Burn-in

I've just found this topic about the burn-in problem. I wanted to buy this watch so much, but now I'm not so sure about that anymore... :/ I had 2 Samsung phones with OLED screens and it bothered me quite a bit that I had to worry because using e.g.. Google Maps to navigate... (It could easily leave burn-in marks on the screen.) I usually sell my devices after about a year, but who would want to buy a watch with visible burn-in patterns? This problem is actually more interesting than it looks at first, because I've read some warnings about the Moto 360, too, although it has an LCD screen. Manufacturers definitely have to solve this somehow.

So do you think this looks safe? My current face is similar to this buy always on

It is definitely looking OK (I just downloaded it). The only "concern" would be in the middle, where is the thick circle.
Imagine the watch hands moving around all the time .. those will not cause burnin ... but the centre will always be there, like a small disk, always lit.
However, the brightness in the dim mode looks low enough not to harm the display. I would add a new circle shape, black 100%, over the center of the watch hands, only in dim mode.

However, you do realise that all this is pure speculation. I cannot afford to put my watch and test all these theories :).

Add-on: As a reference, this is my watchface style (I'm updating it slowly, as I see the oportunity :) ) for the past ~30 days (no burn-in effect seen):

I use watchmaker, Intellicom and pujie black watchfaces. Did the shift in ambient mode work with all watches or just with the stock ones?

I read that in the second it was posted but you have to consider that disabling that protection requires ROOT.
We are not talking about rooted devices .. we are talking about stock ones. And stock, the pixel shift is, as I said, a system function, independent of the watchface used.

Once you go root, you acknowledge risks ... it is no longer "factory grade".

The article first list build.prop lines that could be removed to disable it. Then it gives later code relating to watch face Devs and offset settings. So, perhaps watch face makers could do it in their own code for an individual watch face.

@ro_explorer thank you for your advice. I know this is just your opinion but I welcome your opinion :) never thought about the dot in the middle. Stock faces don't have it filled dot in the middle on ambient mode so I might edit my chosen face now knowing that. Thanks again
