Question P6P Unlocked Hotspot on VZ without subscription

I've got a P6P Unlocked and I'm using it on VZ. What is the easiest way to allow hotspot use without paying their ridiculous subscription? I'm assuming I'll have to root because all the typical apps and tricks aren't working for me. Any suggestions?

I tested mine a few weeks ago, worked fine. I am unlocked and rooted, not sure if that was required as I didn't test first. But just going in and turning it on worked for me.
