I've read a few posts mentioning some replacement Amaze's had a better screen and what not.
And that some screens looked washed out and others didn't.
I've asked for screen confirmations but only a few people have posted.
So I've made this thread along with instructions for you to find your panel type.
If you guys could do that and post back so we can see if there are indeed different screens floating around that would be great.

The way to identify your screen type is as follows: (This does not require root)

1. Download Terminal Emulator from the Market.
2. Restart your phone. (This reduces the results log.)
3. Run Terminal and type in "dmesg" without the " "
4. Long press on the data and choose "select all" then copy.
5. Open your "mail" app. Paste this and send it to yourself.
6. Hop on your computer and open that email. "Ctrl F" (I use Windows) to search the term "panel"
7. Keep hitting "next" button until you see something that says "panel type = "
8. It will look something like this:

mipi_novatek_panel_type_detect panel_type=PANEL_ID_PYD_AUO_NT

If someone finds a different panel type on their phone then please post it here and I'll update OP. (OP does mean original post right?)

mipi_novatek_panel_type_detect: panel_type=PANEL_ID_PYD_AUO_NT. I've heard that some phones that had their screens replaced had a problem with the G-sensor. For some reason there is a hardware problem with that. Lots of people are complaining about that. It obviously must be a different panel then.

So I'm starting think this whole "second panel type" is just a myth.
Or at least user perception.
I started this thread because someone that sent off for an exchange said their new Amaze came with a better screen compared to the old one.
So either their old screen was a defect or they just perceived the new one to be better.

Either way I've yet to see a different panel type.

Or maybe they named both panel the same !
I dont think HTC names them.. usually acer, sony, and sharp makes the screens for HTC phones, well the past ones. like the sensation

More info needed

There may be more to it than just the basic screen label. For instance, even the fact that the label name varies might mean something. We need more information to get a real consensus. Here are a few variables, anybody have suggestions for more? If there was a way to determine the date of manufacture, or batch, that might help too.

1. does your panel have screen bleed or is washed out?
2. full panel string label
3. serial prefix (seems to indicate color as well)
4. color
5. manufacture location (on box)

my answers:

1. yes, screen bleed; yes, washed out
2. Panel Type = PANEL_ID_PYD_AUO_NT
3. HT19TVP
4. black
5. Taiwan

Personally, I hope there is a better screen out there! The bleed and viewing angles are just awful.

Does anybody actually have a "good" screen? If so, please reply with the previous info to help the rest of us out. Thanks.
