One question: is OTA update support planned sometime down the line? I would love to give this ROM a try, loved Paranoid on my old Oneplus 3T.
I'd just like to avoid having to wipe everything off my phone regularly.
OTA and the full wipe requirement are separate issues. Once it comes out of alpha a simple dirty flash should be enough to upgrade.

Any help would be appreciated. I am running fully stock android, unlocked bootloader, running instructions as stated on initial post. I keep geting the error "error: failed to load 'aospa-sapphire-2-oneplus8t-alpha-20220118-image.zip': Not enough space

Any suggestions?

I've flashed various A12 roms, but I can't get Aospa 12 to work. OOS freshly preflashed and then in the bootloader fastboot update *file.zip*. Factory reset and reboot and I end up in crash dumb mode. My device is a KB2003.
I've downloaded the build several times and it's always the 8T build.

Has anyone been able to flash the 8T with Aospa?

Yes I have ;).

Did you have:
  • Oos on both slots?
  • Are you using the latest fastboot tools? And not something like minimal ADB?
  • Are you doing the factory reset from recovery or fastboot?

probably not, means I flashed the OOS11, which can be flashed via the bootloader, and then updated it. After that I tried to flash aospa. Use fastboot 31.0.3

After flashing, it restarts immediately, no chance to reset immediately. after the crash dump I restart and reset, but no success.

But now I know it's possible, so I keep trying. thanks

Sound like you did everything right.
  • Updating after oos flash ensures oos on both slots
  • You are indeed using the latest platform tools
I think you made the same mistake I made the first time. A little impatience. Mine went into crashdump as well.

When you perform the fastboot update command, the phone reboots to fastbootd during install (red fastboot letters) after the first 2-3 minutes. It looks like it is done, but don't touch it yet!! It is actually still installing. It will say on your PC when it's done. For me it took about 5-10 minutes.

Only perform the factory reset after.

I even tried to flash with my ubuntu os, but crash dump there too.

exactly after a few seconds comes the fastbootd (red writing). from there the rom is flashed. I wait about 3-5 minutes and then the message comes up. the smartphone restarts automatically and goes into the crash dumb without me touching it.
well thanks anyway @RoelD92 for your help.
one more question, is it possible to download netflix from google play?

Ah. No idea what the problem is then.
Sounds weird.

Yes. Safetynet passes without root so banking and Google pay works, and Netflix is available with widevine L1.

Nope. Unfortunately I do not have a workaround. As I stated before, for me it worked out of the box.

I read in the paranoid Android telegram group that the build for the 8pro might have been signed with a wrong key, which could cause problems,. But on my 8t everything is pretty much ok.

Thanks you, the only trick is getting the phone into EDL mode, nothing seems to be able to do that, any help please?

I'm on 8T and saw that other people have the same problem. Maybe is due to the device model? 🤔I have the global version ddr4

Finally got it restored using msm tool and a really old windows laptop, thanks for the help. Pixel roms just don't have enough functionality compared to oos yet, although very stable

I like this rom so far, 3 main issues.

- Finger print scanner is not very good, half the time doesn't read my finger and sometimes doesn't even try with screen off.

- Screen is sideways when the phone wakes on occasion, it goes back to normal pretty quick

- Developer options just crashes in the "home settings" screen

    Update: 30. Apr 22

I often have to press the power button 3 or 5 times as the display doesn't turn on sometimes. It seems like the system reacts to the power button, but the screen doesn't turn on.

Had a similar issue, turning off the Proximity Detection ("Prevent Accidental Wake Ups") fixed it for me. Now my phone wakes up every time.

Same here on the 9r. Any work around?
You're gonna have to wait for the next maintainer of the rom. The ROM is a blind test for the 9r because its similar to the 8t so the maintainer figured you can use the same ROM on the 9r and the maintainer just lost his OP8Pro

I flashed the April 7 release for the OnePlus 8T and it's very smooth. I love it.

Everything works fine so far, except for the fingerprint sensor and I'm sure this is due to the screen not behaving right.

If e.g. Nightlight is active and the screen is rather red than blue, the in-display fingerprint scanner fails pretty much every time for me.

If I disable it, it works fine.

Maybe we can make the scanner behave more predictably, by enabling a default display setting during finger print access.
We could set the screen to e.g. 75% brightness, Nightlight off and disable screen colour grading.

OxygenOS also behaves like this while the fingerprint is accessed.

I think I even had this bug with the OG stock firmware when the 8T was released. It was fixed in a later update back in 2021 if I remember correctly.

But this fixed it for me! Thx.

Edit: This initially worked, but the problem is back. Pressing the power button doesn't enable the screen sometimes.
Interestingly the UI seems accessible, but backlighting stays at zero.

We are very excited to announce the alpha of Paranoid Android Sapphire, based on Android 12.

On the first launch, you’ll notice a clean setup with a beautiful wallpaper from Hampus Olsson, who teamed up with us again to create several beautiful pieces of artwork. Hampus is a multi-disciplinary artist whose design stands for itself and we’re glad to have him onboard. We also added further UI touches that we believe enhance the overall user experience. You can find all of the Paranoid Android wallpapers and many more in the Abstruct app, included in our builds.

Our builds are based on the Code Aurora Forum Android base, which is optimized for Qualcomm platforms and has a higher degree of performance, battery life, and functionality compared to the Android Open Source Project platform. The Paranoid Android team and contributors are focusing on squashing existing bugs, and implementing and improving features, performance, and stability. We are dedicated to providing a user experience with the stability that you can expect from stock ROMs with best-in-class performance and features to help you get the most out of your device.

    Notice
As we are growing on our list of supported devices in each release, we require of a stronger build environment so we can speed up the compilation process for releases. Based on the actual Quartz 4 list, we support over 30 devices, which takes between 2 and 3 days for all the builds to be completed without counting possible compilation issues or rebuild needs, based on our current specs.

We kindly ask all of you that are in position to donate anything, to help and support us so we can provide better and faster build releases, as well as increase the download speed of our servers, all looking for your enjoyment.

    You can donate here

    Device-specific issues
    [*] Ultrawide Camera (OP8T)

There are likely many other issues, these are just the most prominent to me. Don't come into this with the expectation any issue you come across will be fixed in a timely manner.

    Requirements
Make sure you are coming from any Android 11 based OxygenOS build, stable is recommended.

    Downloads
You can always get our Alpha builds from our Telegram Group or directly download them from here:

(Note, OP8/T & Pro builds are no longer unified)

Note: Custom kernels are not supported unless the kernel says it supports PA and GMS is included!

    Instructions
[1] Download the latest fastboot zip we released (hint: it has an -image appended to zip name)
    [2] Reboot to bootloader.
[3] Flash the fastboot zip with "fastboot update aospa-*-image.zip"
[4] Reboot into recovery after it is done flashing & wipe userdata.

If you are coming from Alpha 1, you must clean flash due to recent commits related to userdata. If you are coming from Alpha 2 you can dirtyflash it.

If you already flashed Alpha 1 and want to update, then you can just sideload the OTA in recovery if it is avaliable, although there might be only fastboot images up for the latest version so keep that in mind.

Alright guys, Sapphire Alpha 3 is out and ready to download!
But sadly I got some bad news for you all with this release, I won't be able to continue OP8 builds anymore as my OP8 Pro got stolen recently. We will discuss in our team who will take care of the builds from now on.

OP9R Is now also in a part of the party. Since it's a blindbuild based on our 8T sources I can't guarantee it works as flawless as the other builds. Please let us know if there are any issues.

Full changelog will follow some times later. Or maybe never, who knows.

For now you can download the builds from GDrive and Telegram, AFH is still uploading.

    FAQ

Is feature X working in this rom?
    - If its not mentioned under issues its most likely working.

Does safetynet work on this rom?
    - Yes, safetynet works out of the box and doesnt require any additional modules or hacks.

    My wireless display doest work.
    - WFD is currently completly removed in my builds because it crashes anyway with the old blobs.

I notice some screen flicker on dark backgrounds.
    - That's normal, for some reason 60 and 90/120Hz dont have the same colors and you can see it change when smooth display is enabled and it switches between normal and high refresh rate.

My phone goes randomly into crashdump mode.
    - Simply disable 5G in settings, for some reason there are carriers that dont properly work right now.
