I prepared a small tutorial (WIN7+ST15i) :)

0. !!! DO NANDROID BACKUP !!!

1. Install latest Java on your PC
2. Download from here "RIL.rar", extract "RIL.smali" and copy somwhere on hard disk
3. Download from somwhere "Smali-Me" tool
4. Extract on local harddisk (eg c:\Smali-Me-1.0)
5. Find on your phone /system/framework/framework.jar
6. Copy "framework.jar" somwhere to your harddisk
7. Extract (winrar, TC, winzip) from "framework.jar" file "classes.dex"
8. Copy "classes.dex" to \Smali-Me-1.0\
9. Run baksmali.bat (as administrator)
10. Go to \Smali-Me-1.0\Decompiled\com\android\internal\telephony\
11. Copy/Replace downloaded and extracted "RIL.smali" (step 2) into \Smali-Me-1.0\Decompiled\com\android\internal\telephony\
12. Copy all files from \Smali-Me-1.0\Decompiled\ to \Smali-Me-1.0\Smali-Me\
13. Run "smali.bat" (as administrator)
14. Delete old "classes.dex" from \Smali-Me-1.0\
15. Rename "modded-classes.dex" to "classes.dex" in \Smali-Me-1.0\
16. Add/replace (winrar, TC, winzip) new "classes.dex" into "framework.jar" which is somwhere on your harddisk (step 6)
17. Copy/replace new "framework.jar" into your phone directory /system/framework/
18. Reboot&enjoy
There is no classes.dex file in framework.jar file on my st18i.
Please help locating it.

Guys I'm having a problem with smultronic 5.0 I tried manually patching via smali. But when I replace framework.jar and reboot, I have a lot of force close. com.android.phone and xperia home are force close. set the right permission.

I'll upload the original framework.jar of smultronic

I really hope someone can help me with this one, I've been having major problems with 2G/GSM coverage on my Xperia Ray.

Basically, I have 2 Xperia Rays and 1 SIM card. 2G is not available on one Ray in my home area. In fact, it's not even shown as an option in the 'Network Operators' but I can see 2G available for other networks in the menu. 3G/WCDMA coverage seems to be unaffected. My other Xperia Ray (using the same SIM card) picks up 2G at home no problem.

Now here's the weird bit, if I leave my home area (e.g. if I'm in the city a couple of miles away) the affected Ray has no problem at all with 2G coverage, it works perfectly! Once I return to my home though, 2G is 100% unavailable. And as I said, 2G works perfectly on my other Ray and all other phones using the same network in my home.

I spoke to someone in my network (O2) and they assured me that it's nothing to do with the IMEI number the affected phone falling foul of my local mast as regards 2G coverage, so what could the problem be? It's not a SIM card problem, and the fact that 2G works perfectly everywhere else seems to indicate that it's not a problem with my phone hardware either.... I have an unlocked bootloader so PC companion & SUS aren't doing any good, and flashing a new ROM/Kernel via Flashtool hasn't resolved the problem either, darn it.

I'm totally stumped here.. might anyone have any ideas?

P.S. I tried the patch in this thread to see what'd happen - didn't have any effect, unfortunately.

Yeah, they've both got the same baseband. I also tried different basebands on the affected Ray but no luck, unfortunately.

I think the problem is in the radio chip or in the antenna....

Yeah.. but if it's a hardware problem with the phone then how come 2G works perfectly seemingly anywhere else but my home? My logic kinda says that if there was a hardware problem affecting 2G then surely I wouldn't be able to pick it up anywhere at all, or is my reasoning flawed there? ;) Or maybe a hardware problem has made the phone more choosy about the 2G signal it picks up - i.e less likely to pick up a slightly weaker 2G signal?

Anyone, please? what specific part of RIL.smali was changed? so I won't replace my RIL.smali.. maybe that will lessen the chances of Force close..
