the pixel xl is now 3 years old. i've had mine for almost that long. just a few months shy of 3 years and it's starting to show its age. the performance has started to degrade noticeably. the phone is less responsive. it may take a second or two to respond to a tap. apps take longer to load and my battery is draining faster. i used to be able to go a whole day without needing to recharge. not anymore. i charge my phone overnight and now only make it to late afternoon, before having to charge it again.

i'm running the october android 10 update and magisk 20.1.. i did a factory reset when i flashed the update.

how is everyone else's performance at the 3 year mark?

My total usage with the marlin will be three years soon but the particular device I am using is basically 4 months old as it was replaced by google, so I can't say exactly what changes are to be found on a three year old device. But my previous marlin (which was replaced) was more than two years old and I can say that performance is affected when the battery is old. I mean with a new battery the phone performance feels much more solid than running it with an old battery.

If you are considering upgrade probably hold off a bit more till 4a release or just get the 3a. But in spite getting good deals on the 3a I didn't get it as I didn't find it to be a proper upgrade from the OGP.

My pixel xl is doing okay
Updated to android 10, Replaced the battery, Installed some magisk modules and installed a custom kernel. Scored 222k in antutu and scoring only 143k without changes. The magisk modules and custom kernel has significantly helped the phone perform more and i would say could last a year or so.
Although battery wise i think android 10 has some issues with it 4.5hrs SOT tops don't know how to make it better in any situation it always ends up with 4hrs sot. I'll try clean install android 10. Any tips to make this batter last longer?

thanks for the replies. sounds like replacing the battery is a good thing to try. for those of you who had the battery replaced, did you do it yourself or have a shop like ubreakifix do it? the ifixit guide for battery replacement makes it look difficult and scary.

I replaced my battery on my own probably 4 months back. My advice is to really take your time with removing the screen if you intend to reuse the screen (I didn't reuse the original screen but did not damage it anyway). Try to find a corner which seems to be looser so you can insert a playing card to cut through the adhesives but also be mindful how much you push the card in (the ifixit guide is on point here, stick to this and your screen should be safe). It isn't overwhelming difficult, I used a hair dryer to heat up the adhesives instead of a heatgun and it worked too. Just be patient and only do it when you have ample time.

Like others have mentioned, with a new battery the phone does less a full day unless you game heavily or use the GPS a lot. As I use a 128GB XL, the 3a with 64GB doesn't really cut it. Really hoping that there is a 128GB option for the 4a.

Sure, the magisk module that mainly optimizes my phone is NFS injector (currently running at balanced) and GPS optimizer for well location ( having issues with location since android 10 it fixed it), If you want performance you can always change to ultra in NFS.
I use ElementalX kernel and Kernel Auditor, for some reason ElementalX wont dim My screen properly so i had switch. Lastly i don't think i have used F2FS i just simply don't know how.Screenshot_20191204-092513.png

Thanks. Twrp.me said it haven't support android 10 yet, and which ver of TWRP you are using now? I searched on Google, people said with ElementalX kernel, you only just format Cache and Data partition to F2FS. If you want to keep data, backup Data partition before change to F2FS and restore after.

Well i don't use twrp i have only installed it temporarily It gave me some.error such as error mounting /system and /vendor But the Kernel installed properly, i used 3.1.1-1 (if thats the right ver) as for the root i installed it using fastboot commands by patching the boot.img,
Anyway where have you found that f2fs method im a little curious.
