Performance of Nexus 5X

Hi guys, I ordered Nexus 5X but I'm really worried about it's performance.. I heard so much about lag that I'm seriously thinking about cancelling my order and getting Nexus 6P instead.. Are issues like laggy Chrome, laggy google keyboard, throttling.. real? Thank you

Laggy keyboard (and touch screen lag in general)- a problem for some devices when fast-charging with the OEM charger. Sol'n - buy or hassle google into giving you a playstore 3amp generic charger (which has a proper ground).

Throttling - will throttle is put through multiple benchmarks. Sol'n - just use your device. There may be some throttling when gaming etc. You won't notice or care except to be pleasantly surprised at how little heat it produced under stress.

Never had a problem with lag in chrome except on pages with multiple adds and that's just an internets problem.

Mayy i ask what reviews you are talking about? I have yet to say one that says that from a semi-credible source. Note! There are many many android specific websites but only a small amount of them would i consider to be trustworthy in general.

I cant recall names of them all, but Verge for example. So you guys seriously have 0 lag and it running buttery smooth all the time?

I feel performance is basically identical to my Nexus 5 for everyday use. I can't comment much on gaming or heavy 3D applications as I have only played a few minor games.

so far my phones runs completely smooth. the fast-charging lag is present, but the phone thankfully doesn't have to spend to much time on the cord. lag related to ad-loaded websites is easily dealt with via adblockers, and has nothing to do with the device.
now most importantly consider that the complainers more often than not will make the most noise. there are a lot of devices out there, especially those with successful predecessors, that in general are perfectly fine, but for example didn't meet the expectations of people who tend to be vocal about that.

I know that there have been some reports/complaints of lag here and on reddit, but I can't reconcile them with my experience. I think they must be attributable to poorly coded apps or bad hardware. My 5X has not given me any problems at all and is entirely lag free (I am bone stock by the way). Note that I am not a big gamer, so I can't really speak to that use case.

Now, there is no doubt that the 6P has higher specs. If you wan the highest specs available, you should get the 6P. But, in terms of real-world usability the 5X is great. I would suggest taking a look at the performance charts in the Anandtech review of the 6P -- you will see that in most (not all) respects the 5X is actually quite close to the 6P in terms of performance.

Lastly, the 2 GB of RAM was a worry for me when I purchased the 5X but it has absolutely not been an issue. Right now, my 5X is on its 10th day of uptime. 38 apps have used memory in the last 24 hours, and I currently have 483 MB free. Outside of android processes and Chrome (which is a hog), the next highest memory use for an app is sitting at 66 MB. In other words, I still have plenty of overhead RAM-wise.

Hey there. I've got my Nexus 5X two weeks ago, and I have been experiencing issues with it, however, I believe they are entirely software related.

Just a little while ago, my phone got in a terrible state. Something was using the Location constantly, and the CPU was at 100% at all times. The phone slowed down to a crawl, and I had to eventually reboot it.

All that has led me here to the forum, to see if fellow XDA members have found the culprit. And, judging from the other posts, I seem to be right, and this seems to be entirely software related, and related to some app that I have installed - though I'm not letting Android off the hook yet. I'm in a bit of a problematic situation, as I have no means of connecting my phone to my computer (I haven't bought an USB type C to type A cable yet), so, I can't root and investigate further right now.

All in all - I don't really worry. I'm sure all of this can get fixed. I'll try a new kernel and a process monitor as soon as I find a way to root my phone, get a custom recovery on it, etc. But yes, as of right now, there seems to be something misconfigured with the Nexus 5X, as I hear no complaints from my friend who has a Nexus 5 running Marshmallow, and as far as I have read - no complaints from Nexus 6P users, either.

Thank you guys, but I'm not getting Nexus 5X. I can't risk anything.. I need smooth and fast phone from day 1.. So I'm getting Nexus 6P instead..

This phone is fast and snappy. My friend's 6p is the same.

CPU performance of the 808 and 810 are very similar.

Performance issues any might be experiencing would be software related. My 5x is smooth and snappy at all times, especially the camera: it's lightning fast compared to my N5 which was no slouch. Gaming performance is also a huge step up from my N5, it actually runs cooler and longer while pumping out higher sustained FPS.

I'd even say there's no faster device you can buy new for $379.
