I have just gone through the detach process with ZipSigner and so far so good. TB should be so honest and retract their version as it does not work. Thanks guys for the tutorial.

Another Technique

Found this thread while trying to figure out a way to stay with Nova 3.3 instead of their buggy (so far) update to 4.0 and 4.0.1. It was annoying to keep getting the Play reminder to update and, as someone else said, it also means you can't do an "update all"
But I had trouble making the zipsigner approach outlined herein work, but these steps (found in another thread) worked for me.

1. Find the Nova apk (or other app apk you're trying to detach) in your data/app file and copy to somewhere you can find easily
2. Download APK Permission Remover (by Steelworks) from the Play Store (it's free)
3. Open APK Permission Remover and find the apk of the app you want to detach from the Market
4. Your app will be opened, with all of its permissions revealed. Choose one that is not important to lose -- and tap it to disable (e.g., for Nova, I got rid of a permission to read the HTC launcher) (since I'm on a Note 3).
5. Then choose the option within APK Permission Remover to uninstall the existing version of your app and install this new (missing one permission) version.
6. Voila. The change in the APK appears to work to disconnect the app from the market. Survived a reboot too.

Yes, I get the Nova Prime warning, but it doesn't seem to limit its functionality -- it's just saying don't go to them for support (not that I've gotten any response to my multiple emails outlining some of the bugs of 4.0)

Finally also with ti backup!

Detach the app from market 'normally' and be sure to have ti's
'Market Update Helper' installed or install it - for me, it's working
for three days now without popping up of four apps on Market
wanting to update

Sorry - day 4 - all updates back again :( :(

I found a real solution, install "storeprefs" xposed module, goto play store, "my apps and games", long press on the app you no longer want to update, this adds it to the ignore updates list.

The only way to do this I've found so far is to :
* get the Apk you wanna detach (eg using TitaniumBackup)
* install ZipSigner from play store
* re-sign the extracted Apk using ZipSigner and test key
* uninstall the original app and install the re-signed Apk

This worked for me to get rid of new version of Facebook requiring all kind of permissions
this is so good. i did it with snapchat and worked like a charm. I think lucky patcher has something like that too

Bump. I'm just a noob, nothing to add except I hope someone finds a permanent (and preferably easy to understand) solution. Thanks for helping. The crap is annoying. <3

Thanks for this! I've been trying the method via Titanium Backup, which clearly doesn't work, but this seems to be working like a charm so far. Thanks again!

My results

ZipSigner worked one one out of three apps, for me. Then I tried storeprefs, but it is no longer supported due to Google constantly changing the Play Store app.

Permission Remover has done the trick. . Yay! Now i can Update All without getting updates i don't want. Also, i found and removed some nasty permissions. Me likey.

I'm also looking for the permissions for the market link, pls did y'all figure it out yet?

---------- Post added at 12:19 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:18 AM ----------

Pls what link do you uncheck for the market?
The app I detached from GPS was ES File Explorer. When I went through the list of permissions for this apk I found one called Set Wallpaper. Since I would never use ES File Explorer to do this, I chose this permission and did the save/reinstall.
AFAIK there is no specific permission referring to the market link. I think it's just that if there were, say, 15 specific permissions in an app listed in the Google Play Store and your phone shows the same app with only 14 permissions, the app is dropped from the Google Play Store app listing because it can't find a match. (I could be wrong about the how and why... it's just a guess.)
