Re: [Petition] NVFlash on JB bootloader

You guys are doing the right thing here. However I want to make note that we never had official NVFlash from Asus if I recall correctly so we would want rlto include ICS as well. I think what we want from them is the SBK or secure boot key or something. With that we can get nvflash functionality. Though My knowledge level on this sort of thing isn't very high.

Well, after Thirsday I don't have exams anymore and I may be able to inform me about this online petition sites... But I think if everybody just writes an E-Mail we won't get forward as they then just answer "Thanks, we saw this and will have a look at it (...not!). BUT if we get an online petition, maybe get it sticky on general or even in development section we'll be able to get many votes for it and if we then send them the E-Mail with the link to the petition we'll hopefully minimally get an answer that isn't auto generated :good:

I just ordered a TF300T and in product details it says Android 4.0 - let's hope these product details were up to date :)

However, I'll definetely sign a petition for all poor guys that get their devices with 4.1 JellyBean already on it - maybe I'm one of these guys :/

yes i believe this is correct. all we need is a way to bypass the enryption so we can flash the androidroot bootloader. then the rest is done through fastboot and apx which the device(obviously!) already has. so i recommend we dont say anything bout unbricking to asus(cuz im sure they love us paying for repairs) just say that we want the ability to flash our own bootloaders.

I'll find out in 2-3 days, if I was lucky enough to get ICS :D

so since I just get the device in a few days and of course, if possible, I'll perform NVflash - is there anything I have to be very cautious about? Would be a shame to brick it right when I get it...
I read much about the procedure and regarding flashing and stuff I have some experience with several smartphones - but if there's anything I definetely need to know, please tell me, since you obviously successfully got NVFlash on your device :)

Custom bootloader is necessary for nvflash as far as I know.

What do you mean screen problems? :/

Nothing really. The only real dangerous part is flashing the bootloader (the first step). Nothing really to do about that except make sure you have plenty of battery and didn't get a corrupted file when downloading the androidroot files. There is a video on YouTube that is helpful, search nvflash tf201

Someone mentioned that most bricks happen due to users trying to use nvflash - which irritates me a little...also I never found a guide on how to actually use nvflash, if I bricked my device.

Thanks for the hint to the video, found it and the procedure looks pretty easy ;)

out of thanks :-/

Well it came today. The first thing I noticed was the thing I attached ;) which was unfortunate.
But fortunately I don't have dead pixels. I really like the device but nvflash would've been fantastic...well...

Bring on the petition! I'll spread it so that everyone signs it :D

Today is studying for me, but tomorrow I should have finished with exams which means I'm going to bring the petition online maybe (first post here) - I've searched for some sites but the best I found seems to be change.org (very easy but good though :good:) Does anybody know a better platform for it? :D

I think that this site is good. :cyclops:
This site was used for the petition to unlock the bootloader.
We should contact the nvflash devs to clarify what we should put in the petition ;)

I'm 100% sure they know what they have to do to allow NVFlash to work, because rayman says they prevented(!) NVFlash on JB bootloader, so they should also know how to undo it - I'll PM him now and ask so I might finish the petition tomorrow evening (if I get home on time)

and l33chor, also good luck on your exams and thanks :good:

Hmpf, no answer from rayman yet so I'll have to wait until I receive his msg...
but to get it more specific:

change.org has 3 things you have to fill in for the petition (please tell me if there are some faults (also in grammar as a petition should be free of faults lol)

As soon as some ppl say it's good and I have the answer from raymam I'll post a version that should be worthy to start on change.org and then we'll have this to everybody that might sign this!! :good:

1. Who do you want to petition?
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. (Asus)

2. What do you want them to do?
Dear ASUS/Nvidia,

We are owners and prospective owners of the new ASUS Transformer Pad TF300. However, we were very disappointed that the JB bootloader prevents to use the NVFlash Tool.

While we trust that the TF300 will be well-supported with official updates, this tablet has the potential to be an excellent platform for development by enthusiasts as well, and we think NVFlash would make it even more attractive for developers and customers.

In the past we had already been able to use the NVFlash tool which saved many devices from a brick and buying a new (maybe Non-Asus). That makes this all the more frustrating that another petition seems to be required for the TF300.

Please consider giving us the ability to use the NVFlash tool on the TF300 again. (this will be edited with the thing rayman sais is needed) We assure that this tool will faster a vibrant development community around the TF300 and will promote sales and establish ASUS' reputation in the community as an excellent and receptive supplier of mobile devices.

Yours faithfully,

The Undersigned

3. Why is this important?
Android is the leading open-source operating system for smartphones and tablets, so customers should be also able to use the tools developers create and manufacturers shouldn't prevent them from using this tools that are very appreciated in the (developement) community!

I guess the last part is kind of important to underline, that Android is opensource and due to that companies shouldn't lock it on their devices - this of course makes users brick their devices if they're foolish enough...so since Android opensource Asus (practically every other company as well) should make it easier for people to "unlock" their devices (like they did with the bootloader unlock) - this is a reason to buy an Android device rather than a Bada device or iphone.
Just to remind asus that Android shouldn't be locked like that.
