DeAR All,

First time I'm posting or asking on XDA. I have been reading and have went though all the steps / process to root SGS2. I got one s and I have always wanted to try out rooting and installing custom ROM, but never tried out of the fear of bricking. I Love my SGS2 to the core,my wife was giftinh me iPhone 6 and I rejected and told her never gonna change this.

So now I have thought of atleast trying and giving a hand to root and try some custom ROM. Please confirm if this would work for my SGS2.

the details of my handset are as below (after running the *#1234# code) :
PDA : I9100XWLST
PHONE : I9100DDLS9
CSC: I9100DDLSE
Build Info : Moday, April 22 16:44:57 KST 2013
I have these files with me on my PC :
1. Odin3 and above
2. philz_touch_6.12.8-i9100.tar.md5
3. 8-11_Gapps_Standard_4.4.4_signed.zip
4. cm-11-210140901-nightly-i9100.zip

Would all these help me root my SGS2 and upgrade th OS from Jellybean to Kitkat or above?

Thanks for help and reading :)
One more thing you need to have in your pc stock jellybean rom that you already have in your phone the rom you mantion is from India I have it first do not install custom rom just root your device and enjoy rooted device you can use farmaroot or king root for rooting your device then do some home work about when you faced boot loop and bricked your device so how you can recover from it so I suggest don't install any of custom kernel and any rom before doing full homework I face bootloop after restore my jellyrom that I make baceup by philz kernel
Edit-install app from playstore brickbug chack and see did your device have brickbug emmc chip?

Why are you mentioning 'framaroot' and 'kingroot' on a thread for a kernel that will root your device (more safely and easily than *either* of those) when you flash it?
It is also disrespectful to Phil3759's hard work to do so on his thread....

Hi,
What I would do is download the Philz-cwm6-XWLST-ODD-5.08.5-signed.zip and simply flash this from stock recovery. You can find it HERE. Once you flash it, reboot.

At this point you are rooted and have a custom recovery required for flashing a custom rom. If you want to use a custom rom from kitkat(android 4.4.x) or above however, you will need an updated recovery. If using TWRP it must be version 2.7.0+ or for CWM version 6.0.4.5+. This will get you started, but take your time and read as much about custom roms etc as you can.

And the search function and google are your friends :)

Hey...no problem fella.....
I'm the same as you.....philz is my 'go-to' kernel of choice for as long as I can remember.....
And being able to flash it directly from stock recovery......it don't get much easier than that....:D:D

Here is the .tar version for flashing with ODIN. Note, I haven't used this, I downloaded it in case I might need it; it should be fine but I can only give the MD5 for the file I have. I can't remember whether I checked it after I downloaded it(I would like to think I did!!)

philz_touch_6.48.4-i9100.tar.md5
MD5 - 2D744600C955AEB417C908DF88FA515B

@noppy22 May you please upload that file elsewhere? I will highly appreciate it as the current site says is no longer on their servers and goo.im doesn't work too as you might know.

But not for this file: PhilZ-cwm6-XWMS2-MOT-5.15.9.tar.md5
On Page 431 you will find a link which contains also tar and zip
Flash PhilZ-cwm6-XWMS2-MOT-5.15.9-signed.zip from external memory
Link: http://d-h.st/users/philz_touch/?fld_id=25726

Reboot in recovery and try to flash stock rom. If you have any 4.1.2 nandroid backup than restore it or else flash a 4.1.2 rom.
P.S. You cannot use CWM 6.0.4.4 or above on stock rom.

Which one should I install on i9100 with stock 4.1.2 XXMS7? It is firmware for Poland XEO.
There is too much versions of PhilZ kernels, so I don't wanna get bootloop as I didn't make a nandroid backup yet, because I don't have custom recovery. CWM is not working with stock firmware.

Hi
According to thread you should choose your build or one which is close to it.
You have XXMS7 and the only one i found is XXMS1 which should be close enough.
But i m not 100% sure.
Maybe you could also have a look For siyah root kernel which is for all 4.1.2 builds.

Hi,

Samsung Galaxy (SM-N910T) Note 4
Samsung OEM KK 4.4.4, Nadia Kernel (Nightly7)
PhilZ Touch Recovery v6.59.0 / CWM v6.0.5.1

I am having a really weird problem! All of the sudden, when I make a NanDroid Backup, I get two folders under the:

clockworkmod >> backup

...folder, instead of just one as has been normal. The second one always only has 4 files in it, totaling 17 MB.

It's not the size maxing out in the first one, forcing it to create a second one, because I even tried uninstalling apps to make it smaller and it still happened.

And here's the really strange thing! I had an older backup stored away and decided since I know that one created as just one (a week ago), I'll just clear out the recent ones, place that one there, reboot into Recovery, Restore it and hopefully all will be well.

So I did that and there was only the one folder there under:

clockworkmod >> backup

...(this is on my External SD Card). But when I rebooted into PhilZ and went to select my backup, there it was again!!! The second folder, 17 MB!!!

I had just tried a different Kernel (AEL v7.2) made for my phone and I thought maybe it was somehow causing this problem, but I flashed Nadia in again (and verified that it installed) and it's still doing it.

Has anyone seen this before? The first folder is the normal size you'd expect and that I normally see. But I have no idea why all of the sudden that second 17 MB (4 files in it) folder is getting created, when I even downsized the numbef of apps I have installed. And that second folder is always the same size (17 MB).

As I said, it was working fine for a couple of months with the Nadia Kernel. Any idea what's happening here?

Thanks!
