Thanks buddy. Just thought I could put it in my night lies without having to manually do it
But I'll just make a shell script to do it on the nightlies. A bash script to do:
Unzip rom
Rm originals
Cp philz files
Rezip

Would that work?

If you are using boot.img compiled from cm source, get my new PhilZ-cwm6-CM-10.1-n7000-5.08.5.zip, extract the zImage, rename to boot.img, and replace in your ROM
That's what you want?

What is the worst case scenario when flashing a non-compatible kernel?

I know it's been said that if they're similar it may work but I was curious as I wouldn't mind a bootloop over downright hard bricking my phone...
In my case, I have a UBLSG rom, so I take it the closest compatible kernel with fixed bootloop would be UBLSF?

Thanks in advance.

I have a very noob question, please bear with me. I'm planning to update my ROM to JB, and this is going to be my first time to do this; including the flashing of new kernel.

I'd just like to ask if this is the correct kernel to use: PhilZ-cwm6-DXLSE-OLB-5.08.5-signed.zip + PhilZ-cwm6-DXLSE-OLB-5.08.5.tar.md5

My Phone details are as follows:
Baseband version: N7000DXLC1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-N7000DXLC2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.DXLC2

Thanks in advance guys.

No. You need to read the instructions that's why Phil took the time to write them. All the information is there, don't expect people to repeat what's already there.

I did read the instructions, and I re-read this part specifically a few times:

What kernel to choose:
The important part is the Kernel code:
XWLPX-NEE
Kernel code is in red (LPX), for this example, you need an LPX ROM. However, often, you can mix kernels when they are close: LPF kernel with LPG ROM...
NEE code doesn't matter at all, I add it for reference. It is the CSC
XW: mixed, often doesn't matter for close regions. For example, XW and XX are often interchangeable. However, mixing a BU with an XW ROM or inversly, sometimes works, but often ends in a bootloop. In that case, either boot into recovery or download mode to reflash

From that I gathered that I can use a similar region code (sorry if that's the wrong term for that), mine seems to be DXLC2. And the closest that I can see on the downloads page is something with DXLSE. I'd just like to get confirmation from experts if i'm following correctly.

I do apologize if it's apparently very common knowledge already, please understand not everyone's immersed with the jargons and procedures in android. I'm just starting to learn right now and i'm afraid I might brick my phone or something by misunderstanding the instructions, i'm just looking for confirmation and guidance. Please don't be too harsh, thanks.

You are on gingerbread. As far as I know...this kernel set is for ICS or JB only. Are you planning on upgrading or staying on gingerbread?

Thanks for the immediate reply, I just realized that my question was really dumb since selecting correct kernel is also OS version related. Indeed i'm planning to update to Jelly bean, i've been reading threads around that the first thing to do is get a patched kernel, like Philz kernel.

Okay uhm, right now i'm thinking, get a Philz patched kernel for GB. Wipe settings, then update to desired JB rom. Then reflash Philz patched kernel for JB. Is this the correct method?

And another follow-up noob question (really sorry), what should I be looking at in the kernel name to know if this is compatible with a certain android version (e.g. gingerbread)?

I just realized my own noobiness. This is really embarassing.

Since i'm on GB, I can safely wipe cache/data. Then flash the JB rom that I desire, before updating/flashing Philz latest JB kernel. And I can use DXLSE kernel, This is correct right?

Sorry for wasting forum's server bytes with my noob questions.

OK here's the deal, there is no philz GB kernel that I know of. You could use abyss or whatever but there really is no point. First answer this question and I will direct you:

Do you want to flash a full stock ROM, or would you like to just flash the most recent deodexed an prerooted rom (my recommendation), or a custom ROM like sweet ROM

I was initially planning to use sweet ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2001632, but now I'm interested to follow your recommendation. This is safe from hardbricking right?

By the way, what is deodexed?I just googled it, really interesting stuff
