Somewhere in Oz...
... knowing that Phil's recovery does not issue secure erases then the only potential brick if Samsung didn't fix this is using a bad update-binary to format some partition.

Are the update-binarys currently in use neutered and safe?
I believe Samsung have patched JB kernel successfully. I verified this by wiping on stock Jb with CWM.zip. it passed. On stock ICS kernel it would have superbricked my phone (and had done so in the past).
Philz update binarys have "wipe via secure discard suppressed. ..". I'm not sure if other devs are using them though. Most try to bypass brick risk by using "delete recursive" in their updater scripts.

dr.ketan, having read the post #8, may I request a kernel in the -signed.zip format for Note1 v. 2.3.6 ZSLA2 (used by HK) ?
Or, is there alternative method described elsewhere on safely rooting ZSLA2 ? Thanks

Sorry if i am not on the right thread to ask my question.. could someone share your advice on safely rooting ZSLA2 ? Thanks~

When will people realize that this is for all intensive purposes a pure stock kernel...with only a custom recovery.

Hi Phil,

There's an "official" LSA-DBT on samfirmware : http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=8&view=8359
Can you take a look at its kernel please, just to compare if it's the same or newer than the LSA-XJB you got on that dump ? :)

Thanks ^^

Edit : I extracted the zImage from the tarfile :
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/93662619/zImage from CODE_N7000XXLSA_549786_REV02_user_low_ship.rar
They are binary the same. Thanks for the effort you took to upload only zImage

Do not bother, I stopped debating it. It is even in the FAQ. They never read
However, there are also ramdisk changes for the added features like init.d, bootanim, mount usb in recovery, adb root...

in android terminal emulator first type su <enter>

then getprop <enter>

you get whole lot of literature about the kernel, its name, version etc , read minutely

ps - dont type <enter> please
