Dear all,

For starters I am fairly unknown in the world of rooting / modifying your phone etc.

I followed this tutorial a tutorial on youtube (cant place link) by ExploreGadgets called HTC One M8 : How to Root & Install TWRP Recovery - Easiest Method

Using the all in one tool to root my phone and install the TWRP recovery, however my phone just seems to have died.

I was at the step where I flash the TWRP and need to go into recovery mode. Rather than it going into recovery mode the screen went black
and the only thing I know occasionally see is the battery image of it 'charging' when I plug it into my PC or charger. None of the button or combinations
seem to be working either.

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this or have I screwed up?

Thanks in advance.

Probably the wrong TWRP version. But can't tell from the lack of info provided. What was the Android version before trying to root? What TWRP version number did you try to flash?

Try holding power+vol up for a minute or more, and see if it forces a reboot (folks often don't realize they hae to hold the buttons down that long). If so, normally the process would be to reboot using power+vol up, wait until the screen goes black, then slide your finger from vol up, to vol down (and hold it there) to go to bootloader. But if the screen is black anyway, this might be problematic.
