Hi all,

I placed my moto g5 plus in a drawer with a Sim tool in it and when I pulled it out, it was magnetically sticking to the phone next to the camera, even thought I have a case on. Can magnets do damage to the phone or throw off the compass calibration and is it normal for magnets to stick to this phone.

Strong magnets can cause some serious damage under specific situations, but I wouldn't sweat it. Compass operation is pretty easy to check.

Ok thanks for letting me know. I believe Samsung said that magnets can cause extensive damage to the motherboard. Is this true?

It can potentially cause damage to processors and chips, but not very likely to happen overall.
