It may be due to custom rom, the secret codes may have been removed. Or even the ServiceMode also has been removed.
Please check if the codes exist in the "Secret Codes" menu?
And also try the "ServiceMode" (No Root)" method?

Those two codes aren't listed in the Secret Codes menu, nor anything saying service mode. The no root method doesn't work either - when I enter *#0011# into the dialler, the code just disappears but nothing happens. Any ideas?

The only solution is flashing back to the stock firmware that has those secret codes/features.

Ok thanks - don't think I can ever go back to stock now after trying custom ROMs though! I'll ask the developer if they know how to get into the service menu under their ROM.
