Phone screen blacks out for no reason

I have a issue that has perpetually got worse as time goes on. My screen will just black out for no reason, usually only comes back with a battery pull. Occasionally it will turn back on if I press the sides which made believe it was the connector so I took the back off and disconnected the screen cable and reconnected it. Problem still continues. Tried safe mode in case it was an app, still happening. BTW when this happens my lights on my buttons still light up but as the screen is unresponsive I end up having to pull the battery and usually that works (sometimes takes more then once to do it) Other then that the phone works fine. This happens minimum 3 times a day. And lastly if the screen needs to be replaced, what's that run cost wise? Or can just a cable be replaced? Or could it be a charge port issue?

Sounds like it's locking up rather than the screen turning off. Try this.. Next time the screen goes dark, get on another phone and try to call your phone. See if the call goes thru and if your note rings and if the screen comes on.

Call goes through, screen stays off

I doubt it's the screen itself, but it does sound like a loose connection. To check this, if possible, instead of pulling the battery, I would push on the circuit board with a plastic or wooden toothpick. See where, if anyplace, it turns back on. Then, I would partially disassemble the phone, insure all the ribbon connectors were clean and properly seated and that all screws were "firm" (don't overtighten them).

The other possibility is a cracked circuit board.

I have taken it apart, the connection onto the board is fine but I'm not sure about the connection to the screen itself because that's further in there

Well... If it comes back on via squeezing the sides (or shaking it, tapping on it, etc) then it's definately a loose or cracked connection. Unfortunately, they're a real pain to locate exactly. And if it's a cracked circuit board, it can't be fixed.. Just replaced.

It may be worth your while to just replace the whole phone. On eBay, "refurbished" N900V's go for $90 to $125 while new screens/digitizers are about the same price.

Some claim new note 3's N900V (Verizon) for $230.
