Phone Wake after screen replacement.

I replaced my screen and am now having problems waking the phone. It doesn't respond when i short press the power button, but i know that the button functions as it reboots when i long press it.
It does wake when i plug in or remove the power cable, and everything else seems to be working perfectly.
I tried changing the settings to wake on volume up, or double tap, etc, but those dont seem to work. Perhaps they are not compatible with my kernel.

Does anyone have a suggestion for fixing this issue, or know of a suitable ROM which will allow wake on volume up, double tap, etc.

Currently I have:
CyanogenMod 13.1-20161007-TS-libra

Kernel
3.10.96-perf-g0338dd3

It's probably time to update anyway, i haven't done so since CyanogenMod disappeared.

Cheers for any advice.

Additional Info: In TWRP Recovery, the power button does wake the screen perfectly. So it seems like a software issue, but that is bizarre as i haven't made any changes to ROM or settings in six months. It would make more sense to be a hardware issue, seeing as i just had the phone all pulled apart.

Any idea how a hardware problem could make the power button work in recovery but not in android?

I had exactly the same problem. In my case, the wrong readings from the proximity sensor caused by the screen protectors. After removing the protection and sticking so that it does not cover the sensor, the symptoms have subsided. The problem (probably) is not occurring when using the screen security glass.

Thanks, that is interesting.
I have resolved this problem.
I tried to format all data using twrp recovery, and then restarted, planning on making clean install.
However the phone reinstalled cyanogenmod on restarting. (Still not sure how this happened, but if let it go so i could see what happened.

Now my phone is working perfectly, although still with older ROM, which i would like to upgrade sometime. I'm a bit lazy with this to be honest. I've got other projects, and the phone is working great.
