How much has camera and video improved since release? Thinking about getting this phone. Thanks.
Full hd videos are poor as said. 4k is enough. The photo quality is inconsistent. I really dont know why this phone has second lens as monochrome because it does nothing, i think. It is said it is there because of much detail but cannot see detail at my photos.

Maybe i expect much more from reality from this phone or hyped but my lg g4 is better in much scenarios as much as i observed, of course.

Your memory must be off.

The mate 10 is very detailed. Especially in lower light compared to the g4.

People tend to compare the new phone with the old one's and say that they as good or better, but they completely forget the night performance, focus speed/accuracy, shoot speed and dynamic range.
Only focused in the 1% best photos and forget the consistency.
The mate 10 is overall mutch better

I cannot deny mate10(pro) is better. It is better in battery, performance, everything, but what i observe is in low light it cannot take such detailed photo. It can but painting effect is ao much, even in sun set where light is good it has that effect. '' AI close'' button should come quickly to this phone. I upload links to this thread and it is seen that it has almost no detail. Just observation :)

When you say "new night mode", you mean the one that is supposed to perform like the p20pro's and come with the 145 update (asking, because your signature says 142)? Didn't check all the pictures in detail, but at a first look they look better than what mine did when it was delivered (fw 137, I think). The leafs still look like a camo print, don't they?

Yes yes with latest 145 firmware. The leafs are not so good because the weather was windy and they were moving like hell. Haha :)

Edit:From my afternoon walk

Build 145
For me it's a wonderful result, but I'm not a pro photographer, before having this phone I almost didn't use the smartphone cameras at all.
Just in case -- I didn't mean to offend you. Only wanted to point out, that what was seen as an issue with this camera software in the beginning (oil painting effect, especially on certain smallish structures, due to aggressive image processing) still seems to be there, to some degree at least. Some of johnymann25's and you pictures -- that's kind of two data points.

I would like to take some myself, but I'm stuck on 142 (most likely 137 still, if I was relying on huawei's update batch rollout schedule).

I'm coming from a Galaxy S7 and I find the photo fast worst as my S7... Blurry, with noise, the AI made everything darker, no detail, bad portrait and automatique modes... I don't understand where is the improvement... With firmware 145m

No offense - everyone does have his point of view and background.
Maybe I needed to clarify from the beginning, I was reading about the improvement in the night shot with the 145 build and here is focused my comment, before I was extremelly disappointed from the low light results, now appear to me extremely godibile, for a casual user that want a nice memory with no effort.
I didn't need to set anything to achieve this photo in almost complete darkness, for me a really good result.

Am i the only one who doesn't like photo quality on m10 pro? All photos i take has some sort of painting effect and i am starting to regret buying this phone. I hope huawei will fix this problem
Nope. I had the same problem on mine. Every photo I took of a person, no matter if it was on Auto, Manual, Portrait or not, it came washed out, with huge processing and a bad, bad oil paint effect. This was the reason I sold it. I was having the same image processing and oil paint issues on the iphone, and honestly did not expect this to happen on Huawei. I will never buy another Huawei phone until they fix this simply mediocre image processing technique.

Simply clean smartphone's lens from time to time/before you shoot, or just stop taking pictures of people through windows, you stalker !
Just kidding :D
I don't see such issue with Mate 10 Pro. My previous smartphones were Sony Xperia Z1C & Z5C... Photo quality was ridiculously overrated, IMHO. My partner's iPhone 6s was muuuuch better. No more costly high end Sony compact smartphones for me. Now I have a shiny brick in my pocket, but battery life and photos are OK, especially considering I paid it 260€.
