I'm also disappointed by the camera quality,to much aggressive noise reduction make the photos like plastic.
Gotta agree, but then again this camera has a lot of potential..

I don't know how to exactly value Mate 10 camera, but in short - it tries to hard to make this perfect clean picture with no noise and in a lot cases overall image quality suffers and it does look artificial/unnatural, but then again it can take you by surprise and take an insanely great picture.

I am comparing mate 10 camera to my previous phone cameras which I considered good (iPhone 7 plus, S6, S7 edge), and I must say I like it more than I dislike it.

Like for example -> my favorite was ip7+. Very constant performance where you get these great looking pictures with this Apple yellowish filter, but it will never surprise - like you have this certain peak and that's it..

Not sure I described my findings accurately but to summarise the idea - Mate 10 is not constant in its performance (its AUTO mode has a lot off issues, which can be related to software being tuned so that all noise is reduced no matter at what cost (over-sharpening, over-exposed, contrast too strong) as IP7+ for example, but then again its best picture that will come out will be much better than the one taken by iPhone 7 plus

I hope I made myself clear and my findings are understood

p.s. like if I would take 10 shots with Ip7+, 8 would come out great, 2 will be material for delete. If I take 10 shots with mate 10, 5 are great, 1-2 are over-the-top great, 3 are trash..

p.s.pII. one thing I do dislike is the color temperature regarding skin tones, especially for front/selfie camera. Unless you take a picture in ideal lighting conditions all faces look too pale/white and I would love to have some of that Apple yellowish filter in regard of people faces.

Everything you said is true, hope about a software fix.

Auto mode is eh, manual and raw editing is fantastic. File size is oddly small when using the 12mp setting, jumps up quite a bit when you switch to 20.

I have M10Pro. Quality in low light is not good. It's oil drawing. Very often when I use B/W photo, picture not sharp. Bad focus. I hadn't these problems with my M9.

Yes, I've noticed that the 12mp file size is really small too and worried that the JPEG compression setting is set way to high. Nothing much that we can do about it other than to shoot in RAW then do the conversion ourselves.

Are there any downsides of shooting with 20mp setting? Has anyone compared the photo quality between 12mp and 20mp? Thanks!

Very quick comparison. First one is 20MP, second is 12MP. Tried not to move between taking them.

The only downside I have found to shooting 20MP colour is the inability to zoom. I've not checked out the photos on my computer but on the phone screen I'm not sure there's a whole lot of difference.

Hi, I've recently rooted my Huawei Mate 10 Pro, I realised the camera is affected by this (and the quality of the picture) as it doesn't use AI to identify the type of object you point the camera at anymore. i. e. - If i point the camera at a cat it does not show the little cat icon or if i point it at text it no longer smartly detects it as text (by showing the icon). Is anyone else facing this issue? I'm assuming there's no fix as of yet?

Many thanks, I've also realised that wide aperture mode isn't available when you shoot in 20MP. But photo quality seems to be quite similar though I haven't done a comparison in low light yet.

Not so good results for M10 Pro. Last place...
Proof that people have no idea what good image quality is.

Pixel 2 is terrible..
iPhone is decent but pretties up photos with processing (pumps contrast, warm) and is low-res as f.
3T and the mate 10 look the most true to life. Still outdone in a few ways and need lots more improvments though.
