My 2 cents on the Huawei Mate 10 Pro camera:
- on auto mode, things are OK, but not spectacular, the post processing could be improved, but also it looks to me like it is a bit down on saturation (especially in high contrast scenes). I mostly shoot landscapes and nature, and comparing this camera with the Google Camera Port on my LG G6, it looks somewhat desaturated (albeit that might not be Huawei`s fault, since HDR+ usually saturates the picture quite a lot by default).
- on manual mode, you really have room for taking some amazing shots, especially those nice long exposures, but it takes time and you need to be the kind of person which loves to tinker around (like me).
- other modes are also fine, especially the monochrome one, which has very good detail in the shots (the type of detail which would have been SOOO useful in the standard auto shots). Also, I can`t quite see any differences between auto and HDR mode (let`s just forget that it`s a separate "mode" - that`s so 2014), HDR mode doesn`t do a lot as far as I can see, but maybe I haven`t tested it enough.
Overall, it is a good and dependable camera, but as someone else said before, you need to know its limitations and how to go around them. It is not a camera for people who just "point and shoot", because they may not get a great shot all the time. I feel like Huawei could improve the post processing, but I doubt they will bother, as most smartphone users apparently love the "oil painting" effect or just don`t zoom at all into photos to see the unwelcome processing.
I still hope that
@Arnova8G2 or
@miniuser123 or someone else will find a way (and time) to port the Google Camera to Kirin-based devices so we can enjoy the differences that HDR+ makes (as it so obviously did on my LG G6 vs the stock cam).
