I received my Mi Note 10 and took a few shots. Overall, disappointing images, compared to my Pixel 3XL.
.....
Sadly, the Mi Note feels like a second rate phone on the photography front. Funny enough, I don't have any issues with the rest of the phone. The fingerprint unlock is not fast, but I can live with it. I don't have touch issues on the edges. But the main reason I bought it was for the camera, which in my experience so far, is just not very good.

I am wondering what DXOMARK was testing and how they came up with their conclusions, which are so different than mine?
I Think that DXOMARK gives to Xiaomi phones scores a bit higher than they deserves.
The same happened for the Mi9., a lot of users states that it does photo worst than the Mi8 (that had OIS).

Yeah i wish i didn't base my decision so heavily on dxo score... I'm trying to learn the quirks about mi note 10 pro's camera, so i can make the most of it. After all, it is a very good value phone.

Unfortunately i don't think xiaomi will fix any issues sooner or later, probably not at all. They will roll out the mi 10 soon which is obviously more expensive and the only big diffedence is the chipset. Would the majority purchase the mi 10 just because of a better chipset if u can buy the mi note 10 with the same camera performance? No.

Think about that for a sec.

I think Xiaomi needs to keep its reputation as competition is
Getting stronger (realmi)
Nobody would buy an Cosmo l Xiaomi phone in the future of the catheter l camera only would work well with third party apps like gcam..
Good product support like fixes and updates are important for my buying decision...

For sure there is some kind of interpolation/software trick, even if it is really using the macro sensor as 2Mpx is comparable to 1080p res and 4k is like 8Mpx
I saw for video the macro lens isn't used. (Tested by covering the lenses)
Instead the uktra wide lens is used for macro, but it is zoomed in..

The wide and UW cameras are great when using RAW shooting. The tele cams are useless and the jpg from all of them is just sad as a pre school oil painting from a retarded kid.
So, to the question - with global and xiaomi.eu rom(note pro) I face a random problem shooting RAW - from time to time, it only captures jpg, which is totally frustrating, cause if I have to check every time, the moment would be gone, if I have to retry because there's no raw file. And as I said - jpgs are useless. 8GB of ram shouldn't be the problem I believe. Anyone facing this problem and a possible workaround?

For me it´s the best camera i ever had in a smartphone. I have the Mi Nite 10 Pro and since every update the camera becomes better. Now, with the xiaomi.eu software, Android 10 and MiUI 12 theres an improvement again. And we can hope a long time for updates, because Mi 10 Pro has also this camera inside and so the quality of our camera will be also enhanced in the future. The most tests have been made before the updates, so they cannot say anything about our device now and in the future. DXO tested it before the release, but they don't notice that most users are not professional photographers, they just take snapshots. For snapshots Samsung, Apple and some other smartphones are better - they have a big postprocession, sharpen their pictures, intensify the colors and so on. We need a while to study the best actions for our use. But the details on the most pictures are much more than in every picture we can shot with Samsung or Apple. You can see this in the test of dxo also, if you look inside the windows of the houses, what´s displayed, when the others only show blurred or washed out details.

Hm, here is what I got today, while testing a couple of GCam modes:

The stock camera (top) over-saturates greens, with a yellow tint. The processing makes the grass detail look like a mess. It also crushes the highlights in high contrast scenes (I have much worse examples), making some shots practically unusable. This is on the latest Global 11.0.17.

GCam has a lot better balance, much closer to iPhone or Pixel. I'd use it, but in 16x9 mode it drops to 9.1mp for me, instead of the 20.4mp from the stock camera). Plus, the GCams mods don't do as well in low light for me.

The bottom line is, the Xiaomi processing is subpar, even if the hardware might be good. I am not too keen on having to use camera mods to get the images to be as expected, but I may have, since Xiaomi can't deliver acceptable results most of the time right now, no matter what nonsense DxOMark writes.

Hi.
I am very curious about this phone (the MI Note 10 Pro version).
How is the stock-camera with the color (over) saturations if you switch to manual/PRO mode and change the whitebalance? Still the same problem?

But using camera p⁴ from cstark28 I get much better control over white balance and saturation

Let it sink, but I have to say it(again) from an amateur photographer side...
You can't expect sharpness, quality and anything from algorithms manipulating the RAW information from the sensors in favour to the expectations of manipulated, social apps orientated, selfie idiots.
The three sensors of this phone, capable of taking RAW images, are more than great, if you know what to do(not the case with the usual user). I can assure you, in camera jpgs from dslrs are as bad as phone ones(mostly), so if you expect miracles, just use a phone with decent image sensor, that can shoot RAW, and make your own image from that with lightroom, for example. You'll be amazed, that the final image will look better than whatever magic camera app you use.
Peace

While I agree that RAW and subsequent manipulation yield better results, there is a reason point-and-shoot cameras, and even consumer level DSLR's are going the way of the pterodactyl. Computational photography can be really good, as both Apple and Google have shown.

The Mi Note 10 has a pronounced yellow tint from the main camera, with electric greens and yellows, and crushed highlights. High contrast grass and foliage shots look like velvet paintings. This can be fixed in software, but let's see if Xiaomi does it. The Android 10 update did nothing for the camera. I was hoping that Xiaomi would improve the camera, as they did with the Mi 10, but they didn't.

GCams can do better, but unfortunately I haven't found one which doesn't have deal-killer issues, like crashing, lack of lens support, or noise in dark scenes. And as I've mentioned before, none support 20.4mp 16x9, but drop to 9mp.

I've spent a few hours testing GCams and the stock camera today, and it is definitely Xiaomi's AI which creates the electric greens and yellow, plus it often boosts the sky to be much more saturated blue that it should be. Turning of the AI gives a much more pleasing effect. HDR can also add some of the dayglo effect to greens, but leaving it on Auto seems to bring it up only when necessary in most cases.

So, Xiaomi's AI just sucks. Does anyone know if the AI is tuned for the Mi Note 10 specifically, or if it's the same mess across models? Also, how does it get updated?

Compare to my old Canon Powershot G16, which has a 1/1.7 inch 12 MP sensor & f2.8-4.0 lens, Mi Note 10's main camera has better details.

Both telephoto cam, especially the 5x, are inferior to my Canon, Canon has more details without needing over-sharpening, but not that far.

The pro mode is useful if you need to fine tune exposure eg shooting people on white walls.

Very impressed on how far smartphone photography has progressed.

I'll compare with my Canon 40D if I got time ?

What would you expect form a chinese phone? ?
Out of curiosity I compared my LG V50 with this phone and LG kills it. Even in 108mp mode, LG is like 30% better. No surprise as I also compared it with mate 30 pro, another trash. ?
Selling your pixel 3 for this chinese phone... ?
If you're that much into photos, LG V30, V40 and V50 is what you want...
P. S. I've seen V30 + G-Cam photos way better than iPhone 11 or pixel 4.
Wow you are nothing but a hater! Half the stuff in your phone will be Chinese! Your what I would call a TROLL.

Meh, maybe his actual is name is 'incoherent', he just mispelled it, haha.

Anyways, LG is too far behind than the rest of the flapships, and only focuses on display design than anything else, and the removable battery?... forget about it, LG is just a clone like everybody else. Little does 'incoherent' know that the108mp camera belongs to Samsung. So let us say, "thank you Samsung" and move on with this thread. :cowboy:
