Have I messed up settings? I only achieve 20x using my fingers or volume up button in video. In camera the max I get is 6x or 10x depending on other selections.

Try Keeping it on full screen mode which will allow you 50x but the other modes also allow 50x. Are you sure you are on note 20 ultra? Whats your model number?

I remember seeing in an early review that video zoom extended to 20X AND there was a "lever" that allowed for single finger zooming, no pinching to get it visible. The latter is quite useful and something I miss vs. iOS in that zooming with a single finger is possible and smoother looking.

Any idea why this isn't showing up?

I have p40 pro and note 20 ultra snapdragon.
Photos much better on note even the section where in dark the text was readable after zooming on p40 ulta is now improvised on note. Where p40 pro struggles to get the text, note makes it readable after processing the image.
For eg. The attached text. P40 pro unable to get that to read after zooming but note 20 ultra killed it.

The Samsung Camera app does not appear to be saving JPEG photos at maximum quality. Does anyone know how to change/fix this? If you install any well-reviewed pro camera app from the Play Store and go into its settings and set JPEG quality to 100%/maximum/etc., you get the same resolution, but JPEG photos that are 5-6MB each instead of 2.2-3MB each, which is how big my 4x3 aspect ratio (which coincidentally have a resolution of 4,000x3,000 pixels) photos are in the Samsung Camera app.

What do you guys think about the very shallow depth of field of the huge sensor? I personally don't like how all close-up photos focus very poorly in the edges of objects.

Well, I feel dumb. I switched to the "regular" max quality mode on the lens that doesn't do the 108 megapixel resolution. Photos are much larger now, and have visually better quality in a side-by-side comparison which is what I cared about. Though, the file sizes in the low-mid 20MB size range are still pretty low for a resolution that high.

I don't notice a difference in quality when using the 108mp lens. Is there a way to confirm that it's working properly?

Look for the file size and that should show the difference.

I Agree Samsung should provide a way to save JPEG with 100% quality (Variable is better). not everyone wants to go pro mode and get JPEG and RAW.

I'm not a fan TBH.
When trying to take pics of a screen, nameplate, scan a magazine cover, etc. it's always a game of using zoom and moving away to balance focus uniformity and clarity.

I hope in the future they have a variable aperture to allow selection from F 1.2 to F 3.5 or higher. And a 16MP sensor. That would take some nice shots. An integrated neutral density filter for pro video would be nice to allow 1/60 sec shutter speeds outdoors as well.

It is a lot better than my note 9 camera one of the reason i upgraded despite the ughly punch hole and lack of led notification of this phone. Not to mention the ear piece sucks compare to the note 9. So many steps backwards to get a better camera :(

The funny thing is if you read note 10's plus topic for the camera it turns out s10s camera was better, if you read, s10s topic it turns out note 9s camera was better... You get the point, hah? To me the camera is great, and don't forget that it's just the start of the note 20s life cycle and the quality will improve significantly with the software updates.

Had a hands on, the focus issue is completely gone. This is by far the fastest one yet. Pictures are also a lot better than the S20 ultra....over contrast and sharpening is not there and looks to be finally what they promised.
Unfortunately at the mall the zoom lens didn't look as good to me....still pics at a distance were good, but anything with a a slight movement was a mess with the periscope camera. Also, the images were terrible compared to note 10 plus from 2x-4.9x, which I'm assuming was just a crop from the main pic as opposed to the telephoto from Note 10 plus. Ultra wide I preferred note 10 plus for some reason....tad more in the image and more details.
Just my 2 cents...getting free buds live , 256 gb storage, Exynos 990 for 1225 dollars in UAE - edit * freaking thing is only 8GB RAM at this price.....insane

I love CamScanner! As a teacher, I use it all the time!! I hope I don't have issues with this phone with that app.

Microsoft's Lens Scanner does a great job, too! Especially if you're heavily invested in Microsoft apps like Office 365.
