I totally messed it up, and now not able to update or install a custom rom.

So, I was using LOS every since I bought my Redmi Note 4. I was using Abhishek's official builds, till he dropped the support. So I moved to AospExtended. After a few months, that rom developer also dropped support. And then I came to know that, here Aryan became the official maintainer and LOS 16 got the official tag.

So I thought of moving out from AOSP and coming back to LOS 16.

I wiped and flashed the latest LOS build, and it was buttery smooth as usual. I updated firmware and everything, and then I thought that I should also update TWRP. So I installed the TWRP app from the Playstore and tried flashing through that.

And comes the trouble, when I try to get into the recovery, it's showing as 'The System has been Destroyed'.

After multiple attempts, now my phone is not booting up. All I can do is to get into fastboot. I tried a lot of things, watching multiple videos and nothing happened.

Then all I could do was to use the official Mi Flasher Tool and flash the latest version of MIUI.

Now my phone is back to the official MIUI build, with an unlocked bootloader.

And again, when I try to flash the latest TWRP [using ADB and fastboot], it's not working. When I try to reboot into the bootloader after flashing TWRP, it shows the same message 'The System has been Destroyed'.

Now I am left with an unlocked bootloader and a crappy MIUI.

I want to flash TWRP and install Magisk and then reinstall LOS.

Can someone please help me?

How do I flash TWRP?

why there is no changelogs for lineage-16.0-20191107-nightly-mido-signed - lineage-16.0-20191110-nightly-mido-signed ?
There are some changelog from los team, that's affected on system overall not device specific changes that aryan did. Los only show changelog if aryan / maintainer was did some change on device specific tree or vendor blobs.

7 November build should merge november security patch, but not sure on 10/11.

I flashed this ROM yesterday after previously using miui and since i found some issues, if anyone knows how to solve them, please let me know.

1 - call recording - it seems that i can record only from microphone and not from voiceline. microhpone recording is pretty useless. This might be possible to change by the ROM maintainer, is it?

2 - fingerprint reader wake - i was used to wake the phone by fingerprint/stylus and than unlock by pattern - so i had not to press any buttons, doubletap display... In this rom it seems that fingerprint reader only wakes phone only when unlocking. Is there any way to achieve this?

3 - SIM data disable - I have 2 sim cards, after reboot the setting of data use is not respected - is there any reliable way to set no use of data on SIM2 except deleting the APNs?

4 - SIM disable - for traveling or when I am in places with no/weak signal(for example carrier for SIM2 has no signal at a specific place), it is useful to disable SIM completely to prevent batter drain. Is there an option for this?

5 - Ram cleaner - from my experience the ram cleaner was useful to reduce battery use by clearing cached application data and shutting background apps.

6 - display the network type for both SIM cards on lockscreen and in status bar at all times (even when on wifi) - another nice to have feature for managing the battery use (some network types are more power hungry at low signal). I did not find any setting for this, is there any possibility to have this shown?

1: Maintainers are not allowed to add such hacks to official LineageOS
2: Fingerprint DOES wake the device up just fine
3: cannot help with that
4: cannot help with that
5: RAM cleaners actually make the battery drain faster as the killed applications are constantly relaunched by events
6: If the network type is shown when on WiFi, then you have the option to keep cellular data active to allow fast network switching enabled, so just disable it (it IS disabled by default)

2: sorry about that, I did not realize what you were saying
your problem is the screen not waking up on a REJECTED finger, and not fingerprint requiring the device to be already awake, right?

No, just wake up screen when there is finger/stylus sensed on fingerprint reader (then show lockscreen and unlock with swipe/pattern/pin..). This should probably work outright, but anyhow no combination of options seems to work for me. I use Nova launcher and have Opengaaps in stock version, could any of that be the cause?

I never really used any MIUI version with my mido device.

1. Setting up Fingerprint in LOS is always a combination of Fingerprints and another unlock method like swipe/pattern/pin.
2. With only fingerprint I can wake up AND unlock the device, BOTH actions happening together. There is no need to unlock the device with additional method like swipe/pattern/pin.

3. If for example my hand is gone after chainsaw accident for example, I am able to wake up the device with double tap on screen or with power button and then unlock the device with swipe/pattern/pin.

I don't know if there is an option to only wake up the device with fingerprint reader.

Hope this helps !

Yeah, LineageOS doesn't have wake without unlock for fingerprint

I know, but I am looking for an option to wake up device just by placing finger/stylus on the back, not fingerprint unlock.

oh, in that case bummer, was not expecting loss of seemingly trivial functionality when coming from miui. thanks anyway

Thanks for bring mido back to official LOS.
Just upgraded to 16.0 and found that old cm-14.1 FM Radio bug returned: when FM radio is launched with saved stations there is fast but 100% of loud and painful (for ears) click.
This also reproducible by stopping and playing again any radio station in FM Radio app.

Well, that's how I use my phone since I've bought it. I use pin to unlock the phone, but to wake it up, I touch the fingerprint sensor. I don't have any fingerprints defined. I use default launcher (but I don't think it makes a difference) and I use Open GApps. Everything worked in such a way with LOS 14, 15, and now 16.

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 9 (pie), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review.

i am more bothered about the "Los 16 won't be getting official support for mido" quote there. that would be a huge disappointment. heck, mido is a huge disappointment already for quite some time. i bought the phone with the specific intention to keep for at least five years while still running on the latest android. xiaomi hasn't provided an OS upgrade to the device and even cut it from the MIUI updates. now this. my first android phone in 2011 started on android 2.3 and i replaced it after 3 years when it was running 4.4 and actually i still have it in my drawer with android 6.0 on it. i bought my second phone in 2014 with android 4.3, it was officially updated to 4.4, then later 5.1 and I have sold it with 7.1 installed. so that was the very least i was expecting from xiaomi...

A phone, released with Android 6.0, going through 7.0, 7.1, 8.0, 8.1, 9.0 and having booted Q GSI is more than enough for a cheap old entry level mid-range device. As technology shifts, more users are going to shift to different devices and the developer's personal life taking priority over what we do. Remember, this is a hobby, we are doing this mostly to learn and experiment than to provide you with ROMs and updates. We aren't paid to do this, or paid to get you updates, or paid for anything and I am sure no one would ever ask for money. What I would suggest next time is to get a phone that is being maintained by the LineageOS maintainers and a huge community that is scattered around the world, like OnePlus and Pixels are unlike Xiaomi that is centered mostly in India and China. Currently I am waiting on the OnePlus 7 since I saved a lot of money and I'll be using this mido for Android app development only since that's my priority and job right now. Life goes on ;)
