Google Pixel 5
My Pixel 6 well... I really thought Google must be kidding me. That buggy thing was not acceptable for me.
I feel like we're beta testers.. worse than ever! And I don't even feel like G2 will really be much better. I honestly may of been happier to see the phoner at a lesser price tag with the G1 having been worked on and bug free.
But I guess we'll see!
(Cough, 🍏) lol
Yeah no curved displays for this guy... And seeing how Samsung isn't even using their own SoCs and modem in the S23 series at all, I have no faith that things will be any better with the Tensor G2 (especially since it still uses older cores) or the Shannon 5300B modem.
Oh wow thanks for the info. Wasn't aware Sammy wasn't using their own SOC and modem in the S23.. what is going on?
I just may stick it out on my P5 for a while longer.. I prefer root so Samsung has been out of the picture since the.. S4 for me, which I highly enjoyed. But I also wouldn't have changed things with all the HTC devices I had

And yeah, I miss HTC. My favorite devices were mainly HTC, both Windows Mobile and Android. Never had a Samsung I actually liked besides my AT&T Captivate.

I am expecting Samsung to lock the bootloader down tight on all the new phones too now that they'll all be Snapdragon so it's going to be interesting to see what kind of developer shift happens.

HTC was really great wasn't it? I think I owned about 10 HTC devices over the years, the Eris being my first smart-phone!
Then I think it was Rezound, Thunderbolt, Inc1, Inc2, Inc4g, M7, M8 ,M9, and funnily my 10th and final being the HTC 10.

Interesting move on Samsung with Google dropping Snapdragon for their in house processor.
I could see bootloader unlock going either way really. Seems Samsung just doesn't want to allow unlock which makes sense from a company who sells products stand point, KNOWING that with custom ROMs customers will hold on to a device longer than they do now because they can root and stay up to date on say Lineage for many years later after Samsung stops support. My 2016 M8 runs beautifully on lineageOS 19.1 A12.
Same with my 2013 LG G3 running the same version of LineageOS, and runs great! I mean darn, this phone is nearly a decade old and running A12 which is what I actually still run on my DD Pixel 5!

I'd love to see the S23 bootloader unlockable.. I'd buy one and flash as Pixel-like ROM.
There's many great app/mods to get many Pixel features.
But I do hope I like the Pixel 7. because I love my Pixel 5.

I had the HTC Apache, Mogul, Touch, Touch Pro 2, Hero, Evo 4G (the WiMax one), Inspire 4G, Sensation 4G, M7, M8, 10, and U11. My experience with HTC wasn't always perfect - broken SD card reader on the Apache out of the box, the touchscreen broke on the Touch (screen was fine but the touchscreen stopped working), HTC wasn't supplying drivers which caused a lot of frame drops and gaming issues on their early Windows Mobile devices, Hero screen cracked internally but was fine on the outside, Sensation overheated massively when I was using it for GPS driving to Louisiana and caused me to get lost until I found a GPRS signal again, M7 and 10 both got insanely hot while charging and sometimes during use, but man, Sense was my favorite skin. I was never a fan of Samsung's UI choices but I just loved HTC's. I was so annoyed about HTC's fall to irrelevance that after the U11 I switched to iPhone 8 Plus rather than get a Samsung.

If the S23 ends up being unlockable, I may end up with one. I have a OnePlus 9 right now and I'm annoyed with the direction of the company... As for Pixel... Well, I love my 3 XL, but I just have no faith in Samsung processors and especially modems, so it would take a miracle to get me to get one. Plus the curved screen on the 7 Pro... Ugh.

My 1st devices were HTC which were awesome and brought me to XDA!🙂

As far as Pixel 7 screen size, the bigger the better for me!
Yep I went from the Sidekick II to the HTC Apache. Agreed on the screen size too... Where are the 7 inch phone screens at? lol

H#ll yea!
Same with me, wouldn't be here if it weren't for HTC!
I initially went with the Motorola (can't think of exact name) phone because the salesman talked me into it because it had Android 2.1 compared the Android 1.5 on the HTC Eris.
I had it for a solid day or two because going back and getting the Eris. I went online, found XDA.
Like a dummy I flashed a beta Android 2.1 leak which ended up being a HIGHER build # than the official OTA, so was STUCK on this buggy leak. LOL
HOWEVER, this lead me to "root".
Amazing!

Smaller the better for me.
I'm crossing my fingers for a Pixel 7 mini!

Wow! so you are an HTC vet like myself!
I got really lucky with my devices. I never really had any problems.
I remember the Eris' "scroll-ball" idk what to call it.
I ended up getting a refurb through Verizon due to it.
Rezound I tested S-OFF using the paper-clip "wire trick" at least 100x (literally) -- ended up being a trashy 1GB SD-Card I was using that injected the exploit software during the shorting of the device using the paper-clip. Put in a SanDisk 4GB SD-Card as thought it was my timing being off, and first try with that SD-Card, BOOM! S-OFF! Incredible times.
I really liked the Inc2 and M7, M8. M9 was trash for me, over heating like crazy.
The HTC 10 was actually a favorite of mine. I'm a "light" user so never really came across over-heating on that device.
Only thing that sucked with that was there wasn't any "adaptive" battery tweaks that we have now.
And Fast Charging was a new thing, and it destroyed the battery! Hence all these both and forth posts and opinions about charging to 80%, or to charge to 100%..
Charging to only 80% made me get 3 years out of the HTC 10, but now I believe you can charge to 100% and it's absolutely ok. My M8 is basically my backup phone and still has about 80-85% battery capacity left. My 10 I keep plugged in and used in my bathroom for tunes in the shower, lol. The capacity ran down to like 50% before I bought the Pixel 5. I should had gotten the Pixel 3 but I guess I was upset about Google stealing half of HTCs team lol. Na, I just was fine on the 10. I LOVE my Pixel 5.

So I'm a little confused, and out of touch, I know Google is making their own processors now, but is Samsung making their modem for the Pixel 7?

S23 bootloader unlockable, I can see myself jumping on it. (HIGHLY doubt it..) Even though I think they'd sell just as many if not more devices if they allowed it.. Yes customers will keep it longer, but they will also gain customers like myself and others who actually pay good $$ (100+) to bootloader unlock the current Samsung devices, if you are lucky, and you don't upgrade.

Yep, definitely an HTC vet lol. I also remember the paperclip days. Did that with the Sensation. S-OFF was my favorite thing. I was so disappointed when I got the U11 and realized that HTC had effectively blocked the ability to gain permanent S-OFF so I never even rooted it (as I didn't want to risk my warranty since it was the first phone I ever bought outright direct from a manufacturer). Loved that phone. Honestly would have kept using it but Xfinity Mobile offering me a free phone line was too tempting and they didn't have BYOD so it was Samsung or Apple - I went with the latter when I signed up in 2017 and didn't come back until 2020.

Fast charging itself isn't the problem, the heat is. That's why I love OnePlus/Oppo's charging tech - it dumps the heat into the wall wort and splitting the battery into two makes it much safer to rapidly charge. I will miss that should I switch from my OnePlus 9 but with Oppo now locking the MSM Tool behind a technician login, there's no easy way to recover from a brick, so I would need to be happy with the stock software again (which fortunately OOS13 seems quite good so far, very few complaints from me about it, so maybe).

Google contracted with Samsung for Samsung to make the Tensor SoC and provide them a complete package like Qualcomm did so Tensor is really just Exynos with an extra X1 core and some optimization for machine learning tasks. The modem is the Samsung Shannon, although Google got a 5123B that was closer to an X55 than the original 5123 and the Shannon 5300B they are rumored to be using is a total unknown so far as there hasn't been a 5300 device. It should be interesting to watch the first few months what people find.

Right now I'm on the fence on whether I'm keeping my OnePlus 9, trading in my 12 Pro Max for the 14 Pro Max, getting a Pixel 7 Pro, or getting the OnePlus 11 Pro... So far my decision weighting is: 14 Pro Max > keeping my OnePlus 9 > Pixel 7 Pro > OnePlus 11 Pro. There are just too many unknowns with the latter two and the fact that Apple trade in values are insane would mean I could just upgrade to the 15 Pro Max for a few hundred next year from the 14 Pro Max and still pay less than a full flagship in cost. Waiting a few weeks after Pixel 7 launches to make my decision.

Wow, I had no idea that it is really Samsung behind the Tensor! Thank you for all this amazing info.
I was very curious and thought that splitting of the batteries was pretty awesome idea!
And yea makes sense my Pixel 5 doesn't heat up much, and my capacity is around 90% and used since day 1 release.
I wonder why so many bugs with Tensor then? I don't know anything about Exynos though.
I'm hoping Samsung finally gives the US bootloader unlocking..
With all phones being made with Snapdragon SoC, It's entirely (never know) possibly that we will finally have the option, like with the Pixels, to attain the "unlocked" variant of the S23, and actually be able to unlock it, and use it with all features working in the US.
I am between keeping my Pixel 5. Waiting on a Pixel 7 Mini announcement.
I'll probably see myself buying the Pixel 7 though. I'll most likely give it around a month and hear how it is. I'll keep my Pixel 5 because I replaced the cracked rear back camera lens myself and don't want to deal with Google finding out about it, otherwise it's mint. So it'll be my new backup device. I'll probably dump the HTC 10. Move the LGG3 to the bathroom MP3 player. M8 backup #2 (has SD-Card :) )
And outright buy the Pixel 7. Then wait nd hope for an Unlockable S23. I'd either keep the Pixel 7 if I like it enough if this was true, and sell the Pixel 5 to help buy the S23.
If S23 is locked down, which I'm guessing. It'll be Pixel 7 all day for me. I like to root and tinker, so for me I need a device I can do this on and Pixel is that for me. So I'd love to see Samsung join in. It wouldn't surprise me with everything that's going on.
Hell, I mean Android 12 itself if very Samsungy. That was the first thing I thought of when I saw leaked A12 photos. The headers being pulled down in Settings and stuff like that. And Samsung building Tensor. To me it's like Samsung and Google instead of just combining are instead being civil and working together. So who know!?

Even if the Pixel 7 Mini is true, I doubt the definition of "mini", it won't be mini according to my standards.

Personally I would prefer a 5.8", keep the bigger sizes on the pro so those of us that want a phone and not a tablet in our pocket can have that.

I will stick to pixel 5 if i have to have another phone that pulls down my clothes everytime i put it in my pocket

Rumors say that the Google Pixel 7 (non-pro) will have a 6.2" display. The Pixel 6 has a 6.4" display.
What do you prefer, and do you think the rumors are true?

    I would prefer 6.5" for the non-pro version, and I had a Pixel 6 with 6.4
which was OKish for me (sold the Pixel 6 after 2x RMA and many software bugs).

Right now I got a Realme GT 2 Pro with 6.7" which is quite nice to have for media.
If I wanted 6.7" I would have to go for the Pixel 7 Pro I guess, but I hate curved displays like hell.

The 6.2" of the non-pro version - if it is true - would be a bit too small for me.
I hope it's just a rumor that came up by the size of the cases that are available yet (?) ...
Maybe the bezels are just smaller, a more compact body and the display has still 6.4" or even more?
Or do you think Google wanted to serve people who like smaller displays?
