No bootloops here and I have both. Both devices are great depends if you prefer touchwiz or stock android

Pixel XL Pros: Camera is amazing, Sources, Stock Android (personal preference), Screen, Project Treble (could see more than 2 years OS updates), Energy-Aware Scheduling read more here

Cons: Audio is awful speaker sucks and over 3.5mm is like a sub 100$ phone better to use a USB DAC, Development is almost non existent due to A/B and the recovery being in the kernel now (price on launch didn't appeal to developers either), Lens flare on camera can be a problem at times

S7 Edge Pros: OS features, battery life is awesome, Camera right behind Pixel XL, Audio (not the best but it's up there), Screen, Water resistance, Wireless charging

Cons: Slow updates still on 7.0 (Pixel XL 8.1), Edge screen (personal preference), Bloatware, Speaker sucks

All is my opinion best advice on choosing smartphones is to try them both and see which you like more and base a decision which is cheaper or gives you the better value for money also beware they're both one year into their life cycle S7 edge will be EOL on most likely 8.0 Oreo while the Pixel XL will go all way to P and maybe beyond if they utilize treble and if developers take advantage of it

It is very forgiving if you mess up.

As for it being an excellent piece of hardware, you have the added experience of pure google. You get the new stuff first. Monthly updates..
