Pixel XL or keep Note 7

I'm returning my note 7 and accessories for a pixel. I live this phone, but experiencing regular lag on an $850 phone is not okay. I'm talking about sometimes it takes like 5 seconds for my camera to open, if I pick phone up off of the couch and double tap home. It's like trying to wake up a hungover teenaged kid on a Saturday, giving him nothing more than your expectations of him taking out the trash.
Going to miss wireless charging, but the confidence that dxomark had in the camera is really reassuring to me, and you just can't beat the smoothness of pure Android.

I have the Note7 and the 6P and the 6 still but I find a few compelling reasons (compelling to me) to stick with the Note7 for now. First, I have no qualms in using/charging the Note, my original one charged cool as a cucumber and so does the replacement. I love the size of the bezels on the Note so for me it does make a difference of how the phone looks since I look at the damn thing a thousand times a day. Same goes for the screen, it's as good as it gets right now in a smartphone. One thing that I have grown really accustomed to is Samsung Pay, I love it and use it everyday! I wish it was Google that bought that company a few years ago that allows you to use the phone at basically any credit card terminal. That functionality alone has made me reluctant to swap my SIM card into my 6P and drive it around once in a while. Battery wise for me has been more than acceptable to really good if I turn off the always on display (which I don't cause I have wireless charging at my desk and my phone can recharge while I type this). The software for me is not that good and there are lags that I do not experience in my N6. Nova Launcher, Google Dialer, N icon pack goes a long way to make me "feel" more like home. In my opinion, if the new Pixel XL looked more like a late 2016 phone and not an early 2015 phone, along with a few other nice to haves like waterproofing, forward facing speakers, etc. it would have gone a long way to justifying the cost of the phone. If the new software is "revolutionary" then the design should have mirrored it, no?
My two cents
Wait how do you get the Google dialer in note 7? Does it have that feature where you can search in there dialer like if your we're in maps? Not sure what it's called. I love that feature on my 6p. I had a note 7 but haven't been able to get one since the recall but did miss that dialer search feature of Google dialer.

The app was an APK I picked up from Android Police. It's an M build from maybe April or so, the newer APK's don't load. Not sure about the search function I was more concerned with aesthetics.

If there is another recall for the note7, I'm done. Love this phone but I'm worried about updates from Samsung in the long run. Since this isn't technically a nexus device I hope it's not locked down. Will wait for reviews.

Yea, there is no phone worth risking someone getting hurt or burning down your house. The Note 7 is history. Samsung will probably yank them all & start over with the next big thing.

Well with all of the stuff that has been going on with the Note 7 this week I think its safe to say..Return the phone and pick up a Pixel XL.
Not likely.

Id go V20 or asus zenfone 3 deluxe over a pixel any day.

If the pixel had a bigger screen and more storage I probably would have agreed with you since the software in it will be way better than the LG or asus.

V20 = IPS LCD. Not good enough in my eyes. AMOLED is the future, especially in small displays like phones. Also, its camera is not going to be as good as the Note or the Pixels.
Zenfone 3 = huge MP count on such a small camera sensor. Low light will be terrible. Also, it has a 1080p SAMOLED display? That will look like garbage due to the pentile layout. Hello again 2013, where we can visibly notice jaggies and pixels.

Looks like Samsung is now asking all sellers to stop not only sales but also exchanges. And basically said that anyone with a note 7 should power it down and return it. Real bummer that they botched the note 7 like this but I guess my decision is easy now.

Yeah just saw this. We torn about the Pixel XL vs the Note 7 as I really liked the Note and even got a V2 but now I have to return it and I don't like the V20 so Pixel it is. Hoping that Samsung bounces back with the S8 series of phones

Isn't the battery of the Note 7 the reason that they exploded?
That's what they thought, so they changed the battery supplier (which was initially themselves!) - but it's still happening. So it would appear that it's something more fundamental to the design than just some iffy batteries
