Being afraid of the phone not having proper IP rating is one thing, but what bugs me the most is how it makes a $1,200 phone feel like a $200 phone.
You have a $1,200 phone?

My silver Note 7 has a faintly observable line of bleeding light if I examine it carefully in a dark room as suggested here. But I couldn't imagine being bothered by it--if anything, it looks kind of attractive, but that's moot since I'd never even notice it if I didn't go out of my way to look for it under obscure circumstances.

As for the IP rating, I've submerged my phone for several minutes and it works as advertised.

Looks like light refraction rather than light bleed (outcome might be similar or the same, but is a very different thing)...

Different glass curviture vs S7 Edge (that has no such problems as I understand) would support refraction theory.

If so, paint job would not help if it is painted from inside, it had to be painted from outside which has its own problems.

Waiting for my unit to come today so will post my findings.

one word (kinda 3) - OCD.
Its clear you have not read the thread. I also suggest you spend 7 years at uni' studying clinical psychology before you misuse the term OCD.

I don't give a hoot about the light. I do care about gaps in a water resistant mobile. Ever heard of prevention is better than cure?

PS I re-phoned the importer who as yet is still to return my call. Sell it forget it.

Why the hell are people saying paint? The color of your phone is due to a thin colored film adhered beneath the glass. Hell, you could remove this film and make your phone transparent if you wanted. You people freak out over anything. Your phones are fine. Shut up and enjoy them.

Forget paint...forget refraction....forget light bleed...forget the lot. What about that gap that paper fits into? I dont give a kipper about the rest just this gap between screen and frame that my edge 6 + doesn't have?

Checked mine (Black Onyx AT&T Model) in a pitch-black bathroom full brightness ... no light leak at all. I'm not one to hop on mass panics, but this phone is less than 2 weeks old and comes with a hefty price tag, if this issue was indeed a defect and I had it on my phone I'd flip too, but best thing you can do is just see what Samsung says and see what its all about.

But i do have a uniform gap between my screen and the bezel (Which is also not on my S6 Edge +) But It doesn't appear to be a defect or anything, Numerous videos show people submerging these phones and have not reported a water damage issue after, so I'm going to assume while not the supreme execution to putting these phones together, that maybe it was intentional for a reason we don't know yet, hope I'm right!

Its also worth noting (no pun intended) that my S6 Edge + did have this exact same light-leak around the edges.

I hope you are right too! I suspect, I don't know, it may be something to do with the expansion of the metal frame V the glass screen? What I don't understand is IF this is the case why doesn't my S6 edge+ have this gap?

I am still waiting for this call from the importers technical team.

Just want to add my piece

I got really bothered by this issue too, I noticed it when I put a VR headset and realized, that edge screen is leaking (Holding it horizontal makes you realize that). I went to a samsung store either ways, because my S-Pen wasn't working, looked at the floor models, they had the dirt in edge and reflection light leakage too. Described both of the issues Spen and Edge Screen, they put it in and in the end just replaced the S-Pen.

I think Samsung or most stores realize this but apparently not a problem, some models may have or some models may not. Either ways, while it's ugly, in time it's a feature for me as long there is no water leak. Technically,as long as dust/grime doesn't get in the screen should be fine. Samsung might announce this, can see some business people complaining, well because they did when I came.

Who knows, just got the device from 19th (Release date) and saying my piece.

How often do you stare at the side of your phone at 100% brightness in a dark room? This reminds of a thread in the GT-i9100 forum where people saw gray blotches on the display if it was at 10% brightness while displaying a gray background in a dark room. Since I never do either of those two things put me on the not concerned list. And I know, a gazillion dollar device should be "perfect."
I'm on the same boat. First it was GG5 freakout, and now light bleeding. I've checked mine in a dark room and it looks like i have faint "bleeding" on the s-pen side. I'm able to stick a corner of a piece of paper in the edge as well. That being said, i'm not freaked out by it.

Did you read any of the replies offered to the OP? No one is desiring a "Screen gate".

Do read the whole thread before stirring the pot please, thanks. :good:

I have read the whole thread and it was a joke! Look I am just getting tired of everybody trashing the the phone after they find some defect. OMG, the battery drains, OMG the screen scratches, OMG I paid to much, OMG my Note 4 or Nexus is better! I was being sarcastic because the original poster said he didn't want to stir the pot but every thread I've seen on here seems to turn in to that.

Look people, this is a new device and prone to have issues. These forums are to point out those issues and either come up with a solution or give the consumer the information to make a more informed purchase. Trashing the company or threatening to return your device unless Samsung fixes it doesn't belong here. If you want to threaten or demand call Samsung. I don't care to hear how upset you are, but I do care to hear that you found an issue and taking your time to share it with us so we can see if its really an issue.

For example, people complain about battery life yet don't get it that there is more to battery life than Samsung stinks. Of course my S6 edge plus gets the same amount of SOT as my Note 7 with a smaller battery but then again it's rooted and running all sorts of power saving features. I get 6 hours SOT on mine because I take certain mesures. People don't understand that it's an android problem and not to mention faster and better hardware means more battery drain. Instead of complaining why Samsung stinks, help find a solution or return your device. Whining here is not going to solve your problem.

I know, I got off topic but I was using the above paragraph as an example.

What everyone here needs to remember is that this is a curved screen. It may not be a flaw but an engineering solution to mounting a curved screen to a flat phone.

Please realize that I am not attacking this thread, just tired of people complaining and finding problems instead of solutions!

With your phone on a white webpage in a dark room, and with the brightness turned up fully....Look directly at the side of the phone above the volume buttons and along the length of the webpage on the screen....Do you see a small gap with light coming through below the black paint on the glass and the metal? See pic.

This is not a reflection due to the curved glass, and it is not a simple build quality issue due to black painted area not going down far enough.

Mine is an actual gap that I can stick a corner of a piece of paper into quite far. It also disappears when I press down on that side of the screen.

My wife got the same phone at the same time, and hers is the same!

Who else has this issue?
Also happened on s7edge...

I couldn't agree more with you! I started browsing the forums after the Note 7 was announced and before any of us had the device in our hand it was a b**ch-fest about the curved screen, lack of RAM, lack of battery, and the list goes on and on. Then the device came out and it's been nothing but what you listed in your post!

I also had a bad battery problem when I upgraded at first, but I wasn't ready to ditch the phone and call Samsung to scream my head off. I asked a few questions here, did a factory reset and everything seems to be working as it should. I haven't heard many others complaining about the battery factory resetting, so maybe that's the key to a better battery experience.

If this is a legitimate issue then Samsung will recall devices and we'll all move forward. If you sit in a dark room and use the screen at full brightness and the "bleeding" bothers you, return the device and head to another section of the forums.

Also happened on s7edge...
I compared my S7E side by side with my N7 and the S7 does not have the issue. The glass to midframe is so tight you cannot put the corner of a piece of paper on the S7E. The Note 7 takes a corner pretty deep. I have swam with my S7E and had no issues with the phone drying properly after blowing the charging port out. My Note7 was saying moisture was in the port days after being barely submerged.
