Wrong!

Anandtech's problems with wifi and the touchscreen are resolved with the latest update.

The wifi issues are NOT resolved. As of yesterday April 6th there has been no movement even on Google's own support forum on a fix for the really bad wifi issue. In fact even the new Android N preview software doesn't fix it. Most now believe it's a bad hardware design which Google has no intention of fixing and is now dumping the units thru the 25% developers discount which is available to anyone who asks. Kind of shady for Google to do this if it's true but a good way for them to cut their losses by those looking for a discount. This issue is at least 5 months without a fix which should tell users something. I'd also be interested in what incompetent lame brain did their development testing and when did they know they had an issue although I haven't seen any statement where Google has formally admited there is even a problem. to begin with.

Had mine for over a week now, no wifi issues for me. Compared it to my Nexus 6P and gf's iPad Air 2, I'm getting pretty much identical speed on all three. I tried it in a 5 bedroom two storey house, and not seeing the wifi issue reported

May be the issue will surface in a hotel with multiple wifi points (as suggested in anantech's article) but I never travel with my tablet, so it's not an issue for me

Same here, virtually identical to my Samsung Galaxy S6.

Yep, no WiFi (or any other issues) here. Pixel C is blazing fast compared to my Tab S 10.5.

I ended up buying a 2nd Pixel since my first died in 1 day.

I really do love this tablet, but the wifi issue does exist for me. My router is in my office and I was in the back yard BBQing and my wifi just dropped altogether. That is not too far away from the router, TBH. But overall, I can live with it.

Here's an update I'd like to share . My pixel C arrived yesterday, I had intended on refusing delivery but fedex left it with no signature required!! I figured since I had it why not test it out so I opened it up and checked the wifi to see if it's as bad as people described. Well it's just TERRIBLE!! At work I get no signals at all yet my ONE Plus One and Apple Ipad mini running WIFI Analyzer not only run perfectly under Wifi anywhere in the plant but both pick up 5 other networks solidly whereas the Pixel C usually reports no signal or our public wifi on occasion shows barely registering before it loses it again. At home where every other device works perfectly in every room and even the back yard the Pixel C has to be in the room with the router to work solidly and as I move away the signal degrades rapidly and is not usable in other parts of the house. Signal drop as you move away is normal but the Pixel C shows signal loss at a far serious faster rate then all my other devices. I suspect either antenna problems or the wifi radio itself, either way it appears to be a hardware issue which won't be fixed with a software update and explains why there hasn't been one and why Google is silent about the problem. I'm extremely disappointed and pissed off at Google, I for one will never buy another piece of hardware they are involved in designing. I'm sending it back today and warning others don't buy this piece of junk!

I have since few days the Google Pixel C. I was quite anxious when I read that topic with so many people who have issues. But now I'm just happy with mine, no touchscreen issue, no wifi issues. Everything is fine.

Hey guys quick question about the pixel c.
I bought mine almost a month ago with the developer discount, It works like charm no problems at all and I'm loving it.
But I'm curious, do you have issues with the battery? is it draining a little bit fast? I don't have silly apps installed on my pixel c and it's stock android.
I've noticed that with regular use (browse the web + spotify) I need to charge it every 2 days. Is that normal? I would expect from a 9000mah battery that is packed with to last lets say 3 days ?! maybe im silly to think that, but I would like to know your thoughts.
cheers guys :)

It depends a lot on your usage, how many screen on time are you getting? I get about 7-8 hours of SOT before getting the 15% battery warning, mostly use mine to browse the web, YouTube and play Clash of Clans

Quick update, I saw the WiFi issue for the first time yesterday. I was standing at the edge of the house furtherest from my modem, about 20m away and one floor down. The WiFi status bar shows 1-2 bar, about the same as my N6P, but I was getting 0.5 mbps with speedtest, whereas my N6P got 5 mbps

Weird thing though, despite the poor speetest result on the Pixel C, I was able to browse the web and stream FHD YouTube without any issue. Something weird is definitely going on, but as it doesn't impact normal usage, I'm not concerned about it

The WiFi issue isn't all that simple as is not only affected by poor WiFi Signal (or being far from your Router). Thickness of the walls of your house and the Materials used are also a major Factor(contributing to a loss of packages sent). So a House made of wood may not cause Problems while a House with stone walls can defintely. (Even for other devices)

For me is was real simple to see that the Pixel C I received a few days ago has really serious wifi issues. I have access to 4 other tablets and two phones in my house alone to measure the signal against and the Pixel C on both 2.4 & 5G was seriously bad in not only download speed compared to the rest but also sensitivity since in areas tested where the other devices all had strong consistent signals the Pixel C would barely measure any signal at all and would continue to drop it. Taking it to another location where other devices found 6 -7 different wifi networks the Pixel C either found none or on occasion a weak signal from one source. The issue may not be present in all Pixel C's but the one I received definitely had a hardware issue in my opinion. I'm glad I sent it back and I'll be sitting on the sidelines for now before buying another tablet. the only thing I'm sure of it won't be made by Google.

My experience was exactly the opposite. I compared signal strength against a Nexus 7, OnePlus One, Lenovo Tab 2 A10, a cheap Insignia tablet and an old Acer Iconia. I measured in various rooms and at variable distances and floors from the router. The performace was consistent across devices and I tested both 2.4g and 5g. The Pixel C was neither the worst or the best and all within 5db of each other but given that the Pixel C was the newest and highest end of all the devices I would liked to have seen higher performance.

I even walked down my driveway about 100 feet before the Pixel C dropped the 5g connection. The Lenovo, which consistently had the best signal dropped the connection right before the Pixel C did but was able to reacquire it. Something the Pixel C could not do.

The variability of user experiences with wifi on this device is perplexing....

Sure. The PC is sooo much faster than the N9. Multitasking is night and day. The PC just flies while the N9 is sitting there thinking about getting ready to multitask! Shut down and boot up, way faster. I back out of Simpsons Tapped Out on the N9 and it thinks about it for a while, then does it, then everything crawls while the game dumps. The PC drops right out and is ready to go like a champ. I really could not be any happier with a tablet. I've had zero wifi issues also. The speakers while on the side actually remind me of the 9's which I always liked. If you turn it up a bit more you dont really notice they are not firing right at you. Hope this helps! :)

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it! One of my main gripes with the Nexus 9 is website loading in Chrome. It takes several seconds to completely load a page (probably due to the ads and the websites, in general), but it does it in annoying bursts. For example, if I load IGN.com and tap on an article, it will actually take me to the the article above the one I tapped because of the delayed loading. Instead of it registering a tap on the article I want, the delayed loading registered the tap on where the webpage will have finished loading. To solve this, I have to long-press on the article and open in a new tab to secure loading the right link. This also occurs on my iPad, but not as much on my Galaxy S7 Edge or even the Note 5. Anyway, that's what happens on my Nexus 9 and it'd be great if the experience was improved on the Pixel C.

My experience with the Pixel C has been very good so far. I've only had it a few days after taking advantage of the dev discount. Unboxing was as expected, everything has its space and is boxed well.
It had roughly 55% when I turned it on. I used my 6P for accounts and apps. Screen is bright and sharp, has a nice heft and thickness without being too much.
I enrolled in the N beta program and it took about 20 minutes and I had N up and running. I didn't even bother to unlock, so far no need. Multi window is great, as is the quick tiles.
I've been on 5GHz and have not had any issues as of yet.
So far its the nicest tablet I've owned and that includes a iPad mini.

I sent one back because it died after one day. I suspect that it might have been a bad USB-C cable although I thought I was careful about what I ordered. The second one (and the first before dying) are great. It's an outstanding device. The display is bright and it's noticeably faster than my Nexus 9. The battery life is amazing. When you get used to 8-9 hours, 10-12 is a huge difference.
The only downside was the price, but $375 for a 32gb device is a good deal. You can't usually get the best android tablet on the market for that price.
They really could throw in a data cable, though.

Other than a few touchsreen issues at launch which they soon fixed it's been faultless for me.

Also enjoying the developer preview of Android N which is working well, very happy with the purchase of this tablet.

I just wish we had more games designed with Tegra X1 is mind as the hardware is being wasted a little.

I've been very happy with mine. Bought it in late February for light work related stuff, and heavy school use. I never understood the 'productivity' issues people had in reviews, and agree with some of the others in here; I don't count 'productivity' as having a word processor up as well as a browser, twitter, facebook, tumblr, snapchat, etc. at the same time...I would argue that the Pixel C, and android tablets in general, are not the best devices for being 100% distracted and unproductive, but seems like N will fix that later this year, anyway.

I ordered mine with the magnet keyboard, been happy with it. No connection issues so far, and it has been pretty rare that i've used the device without it lately. I do get the double space thing pretty often, which is pretty much my only complaint for the entire combo overall. I haven't been bothered with the lack of dedicated android keys, as the shortcuts work effectively after you get used to them. Same with a lot of the multi-tasking stuff, most of it is obvious and straight forward, and identical to PC keyboard short cuts. I do hope they adjust the default options for that, though, as I'd like to open inbox with the email shortcut, instead of gmail. If anyone knows how to change that, i'd be thrilled. Inbox is set to default, and opens links properly, its just the 'search+e' combination always pulls up the original gmail app.

I do have the wifi issue, sort of, but it doesn't seem to be as bad as some people are experiencing, and I can confirm it got better with the march update. In the buildings i'm in for school, I usually pull down half of what I can from my Nexus 6, yet uploads are usually several mbps higher than the phone. It has only ever hindered download bandwidth. In my home, a typical 3 bedroom sized place with a finished basement, I get almost identical speeds through all devices. The router is on the first floor, and i've never bothered messing with it outside.

I also have the click thing, but only if I really push on it...It will never happen just by touching on screen. I have to purposely feel around with a good bit of pressure before I can get it to happen, so I just stopped doing it.

I got a tuition rebate for mine through school, which ends up meaning I got it for about $325 w/ keyboard. For that price, it is perfect. I do understand that otherwise, with its current OS, and some of the issues being much worse for others, its a tougher sell. I was just in a camp that needed a phone's functionality (almost everything I do for school is through google drive and office), but with a keyboard, bigger screen, and better battery. I have a decent desktop PC, and use about 5% of its capability other than gaming. So a surface device or some full desktop OS-like thing would be overkill.

Neither my initial unit nor the replacement (first ome died) would connect to my 5ghz network ever, not even once. After the April OTA update last night I'm on my 5ghz network. Don't know if it's related. It wasn't a show stopper and I was still happy with it, so that's a nice surprise.

I been a member here for many years and the board has two main purposes customization (rooting, kernels ... etc) and support.
There are few things people should keep in mind.
    • Few people create a thread and say this device is great.
    • People that have issues either imaginary (and yes some faults people report in my opinion are imaginary) or legit, may think every device is defective.

This advise please take to all threads not just Pixel C, read the threads but please keep in mind any device you buy from anybody will have strengths and weaknesses, do not let a few negative threads turn you off from purchasing.

Well said, I have 2 pixels from day one no issues and they are really the best tablet I have ever owned hands down
(I've had the following: HP touchpad, nexus 7, nexus 10, nexus 9, Sony z4 tablet, nothing has come close)

We made should make a single topic thread for all issues and everyone just post there instead....

I think this is the nicest tablet I have ever owned and I have had quite a few. It's build quality is unmatched outside of Apple. I personally don't give two hoots and a holler about multi window or productivity nonsense. I read or play games on my tablet when I am taking a crap and watch media when I am on an airplane. It works great for this. If you want something for productivity, buy a Surface or a laptop. The complaint about the lack of tablet optimized software is moot to me because mediocre tablet optimization on Android is still better than hating my life with Apple's garbage OS, development ecosystem, active suppression of end user firmware modification, and corporate philosophy. I have not had the problems some people have reported with Wifi and the touchscreen, but it is my understanding that both issues have been fixed with the February security update.

What a bunch of bull! One of the most reputable sites on the net, anandtech has advised everyone, including Google fans to stay clear of the Pixel C. I've noticed some shills taking over the wifi thread on the Google forums too, claiming it wasn't bad or did not exist at all.

If you want to waste $500+ please go ahead and buy the the Pixel Crap.
