I originally bought an Onda V919 Air CH, that had true WiFi problems! Constantly dropping the connect and poor speeds.

So buying a Pixel C which was known for WiFi issues wasn't probably the best option, however as it's a Google product I felt it these problems were to manifest I would be able to return it.

So I took the risk and I'm super happy to report that mine has no issues what so ever, absolutely love it!

Such a sad day when the Nexus 10 was so baller, and I feel like Google has yet to make another great 10" tablet in 4 years...

For the price, it has imperfections, but if you set aside price it is a very good tablet. I like the size and form factor, and battery life, fast charge times given its battery life, good build quality, intelligent keyboard integration, and product stability.

I'd have preferred it was either a Chromebook or Nexus for the Devs, this is a Frankentablet which will have the problems of poor custom ROM and kernels for its life. I compare to say my Nexus 7 which is getting via Dev community frequent updates due to its vast popularity. Even my Nexus 4 phone I've had for 4 years I got a replacement battery for $9 and it is on May 1st MM AOSP and still useful comparatively as the day it was born. I doubt we'll see the Pixel C have such longevity.

This is a sufficiently good tablet I'm planning trips as this my only computer, leaving larger Chromebook and laptop at home, the keyboard integration is very good.

Just wanted to say thanks to AstroDigital for this thread. I was on the fence when I learned about the dev discount, and this thread pushed me to do it.
This is replacing a Nexus 9, which I actually liked. So happy I took the plunge, the battery, performance and build quality are all spectacular. This is the premium android tablet I was hoping for when I got the Nexus 9.

Hi! I'm still considering on buying the Pixel C. Buy I'm not only warried about WIFI, but also for NAND speed.
Could someone tell me how fast (in MB/s) can you copy to and from the Pixel C to:
1- PC via USB cable
2- FTP or SMB (wifi)
Thanks a lot!

Of all the tablets that I've owned over the years (asus tf101, tf700, Samsung galaxy tab 2, Microsoft surface pro 2, Apple iPad 2, 4, mini, etc) all of them are still working in some capacity...except for the pixel C. 4month old and it suffers from the dreaded half screen corruption. A completely stock device coming down with a major hardware problem made by one of the biggest tech companies out there.

To say that I'm pissed would be an understatement but I do love this tablet (despite wifi issues, random reboots and now this screen corruption) so getting a replacement sent on its way. I truly hope google clean up their acts, otherwise leave the hardware to other major mfgrs who know what they're doing.

What a bunch of bull! One of the most reputable sites on the net, anandtech has advised everyone, including Google fans to stay clear of the Pixel C. I've noticed some shills taking over the wifi thread on the Google forums too, claiming it wasn't bad or did not exist at all.

If you want to waste $500+ please go ahead and buy the the Pixel Crap.
Mine is great with everything but wifi, which will sometimes just randomly disconnect, if it wasn't otherwise so great I would have returned it, but, for me, the pluses far outway this one minus.

Unfortunately, I don't have numbers, but this is what I know from my experiences:

Transfer speeds through USB have been great, particularly with USB-C on my PC

FTP speeds have been pretty slow for me over WI-FI, but I'm using it mostly for multimedia; documents seem to do just fine. I haven't used SMB but Plex is a great solution if media fits your use case.

PC transfer are pretty quick, as for wifi transfers that largely varies depending on your WAP and your distance from it. It does have it's quirks and it's definitely not the "perfect" tablet, but out of the 4 tablets I've owned in the past (Asus TF101, Nexus 7, Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.2, and this) it is by far my favorite tablet, with the TF101 coming in a close second (only because the keyboard had a physical connection, it was heavy enough to make it feel like a laptop [it wasn't top heavy like the Pixel C is], and the keyboard had an extra 9 hour battery in it).

From a Chromebook's SD card over USB3 to Pixel, 47 secs to transfer 673MB, so that's 14MB/s.

From a Thinkpad (not sure what USB speed it has, off a SSD) to Pixel, 1.7GB in 1m3s, so that's 28MB/s

The Wifi on this has more an issue with signal loss, I find it the most likely to drop Wifi than say my OnePlus3, or my Nexus 7 2013 Wifi. It's not the worse though, my Nexus 10 was even worse.

I think the issue is the metal case, so an inherent design issue, external antennae design like on phones with metal cases, in the Pixel C2 would help?

Meh 1 kernel and one rom for pixelc, while we have 150 of them for nexus 7 ii. Google was too greedy, seems no one bought it.

Two 7.1 ROMs. The other just prefers not to have an announcement on XDA. If their wishes are violated they will stop supporting the device. I don't know if that includes just mentioning the name but I won't risk it because the ROM is great.

Does that include hiding a lame acrostic message in this post?
Uncertain.

It's actually easier having fewer ROMs. Now I waste less time flashing different stuff. One really good ROM is enough.

Would you pm me the name?

Anyone knows, if there will be a Lineage OS for the Pixel C? Its very unfortunate, that the imo best Android tablet is so bad supported by the community...

All Android devices have a ton of development support - it's Google Play. There's only so much you can do with even the very best custom ROM.

The nexus 7 needed more roms, plus it's a really cheap device to acquire.

Just like the Pixel / XL phones, the Pixel C doesn't need much "IMHO", customizing from stock roms works really well. If you need any more mods, you can just install that kernel and or any alternate launcher/app and tweak it to your needs.

As with my Pixel Phone, I hardly even need to unlock bootloader, nor root it or the Pixel C. I haven't even perm flashed TWRP in ages...

Pure Nexus, Remix OS and Here's AOSP if you want to build https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-c/general/pixel-c-supported-aosp-t3285995

I been a member here for many years and the board has two main purposes customization (rooting, kernels ... etc) and support.
There are few things people should keep in mind.
    • Few people create a thread and say this device is great.
    • People that have issues either imaginary (and yes some faults people report in my opinion are imaginary) or legit, may think every device is defective.

This advise please take to all threads not just Pixel C, read the threads but please keep in mind any device you buy from anybody will have strengths and weaknesses, do not let a few negative threads turn you off from purchasing.

Well said, I have 2 pixels from day one no issues and they are really the best tablet I have ever owned hands down
(I've had the following: HP touchpad, nexus 7, nexus 10, nexus 9, Sony z4 tablet, nothing has come close)

We made should make a single topic thread for all issues and everyone just post there instead....

I think this is the nicest tablet I have ever owned and I have had quite a few. It's build quality is unmatched outside of Apple. I personally don't give two hoots and a holler about multi window or productivity nonsense. I read or play games on my tablet when I am taking a crap and watch media when I am on an airplane. It works great for this. If you want something for productivity, buy a Surface or a laptop. The complaint about the lack of tablet optimized software is moot to me because mediocre tablet optimization on Android is still better than hating my life with Apple's garbage OS, development ecosystem, active suppression of end user firmware modification, and corporate philosophy. I have not had the problems some people have reported with Wifi and the touchscreen, but it is my understanding that both issues have been fixed with the February security update.

I've been very happy with mine. Bought it in late February for light work related stuff, and heavy school use. I never understood the 'productivity' issues people had in reviews, and agree with some of the others in here; I don't count 'productivity' as having a word processor up as well as a browser, twitter, facebook, tumblr, snapchat, etc. at the same time...I would argue that the Pixel C, and android tablets in general, are not the best devices for being 100% distracted and unproductive, but seems like N will fix that later this year, anyway.

I ordered mine with the magnet keyboard, been happy with it. No connection issues so far, and it has been pretty rare that i've used the device without it lately. I do get the double space thing pretty often, which is pretty much my only complaint for the entire combo overall. I haven't been bothered with the lack of dedicated android keys, as the shortcuts work effectively after you get used to them. Same with a lot of the multi-tasking stuff, most of it is obvious and straight forward, and identical to PC keyboard short cuts. I do hope they adjust the default options for that, though, as I'd like to open inbox with the email shortcut, instead of gmail. If anyone knows how to change that, i'd be thrilled. Inbox is set to default, and opens links properly, its just the 'search+e' combination always pulls up the original gmail app.

I do have the wifi issue, sort of, but it doesn't seem to be as bad as some people are experiencing, and I can confirm it got better with the march update. In the buildings i'm in for school, I usually pull down half of what I can from my Nexus 6, yet uploads are usually several mbps higher than the phone. It has only ever hindered download bandwidth. In my home, a typical 3 bedroom sized place with a finished basement, I get almost identical speeds through all devices. The router is on the first floor, and i've never bothered messing with it outside.

I also have the click thing, but only if I really push on it...It will never happen just by touching on screen. I have to purposely feel around with a good bit of pressure before I can get it to happen, so I just stopped doing it.

I got a tuition rebate for mine through school, which ends up meaning I got it for about $325 w/ keyboard. For that price, it is perfect. I do understand that otherwise, with its current OS, and some of the issues being much worse for others, its a tougher sell. I was just in a camp that needed a phone's functionality (almost everything I do for school is through google drive and office), but with a keyboard, bigger screen, and better battery. I have a decent desktop PC, and use about 5% of its capability other than gaming. So a surface device or some full desktop OS-like thing would be overkill.
