The nexus 7 needed more roms, plus it's a really cheap device to acquire.

Just like the Pixel / XL phones, the Pixel C doesn't need much "IMHO", customizing from stock roms works really well. If you need any more mods, you can just install that kernel and or any alternate launcher/app and tweak it to your needs.

As with my Pixel Phone, I hardly even need to unlock bootloader, nor root it or the Pixel C. I haven't even perm flashed TWRP in ages...

Pure Nexus, Remix OS and Here's AOSP if you want to build https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-c/general/pixel-c-supported-aosp-t3285995
with that kind of approach I and many of us will have to say goodbye to google produce, and some even to google ecosystem. piuxel brand is expensive, and has poor developer support. I can just as well continue using my second tablet ipad mini or will be forced to by 3d party stuff which is not very appealing too

It shipped with MM so will get O so if you buy now you'll get one major update, Tablet is still pretty expensive for some so compare it to newer tablets coming out

I've had a Pixel C for about 5 months now, and have gone back & forth between loving it and hating it. Currently I'm not happy, it is rooted and I have manually installed 7.1.2, and the issues with the screen are driving me nuts. Screen touches are completely unpredictable, touch an app icon and something completely different opens, etc. Rebooting seems to fix the problem temporarily, but it soon returns. Also get lots of 'function not supported' errors from apps. I've researched the issue extensively but don't seem to be able to find a real fix.

As an owner of a Nexus 5 and having experienced the problem with that device getting stuck in a boot loop due to faulty hardware, I'm not impressed with Google's hardware at all. My $99 Lenovo Tab 10 may not be the speediest tablet around, but at least it's worth what I paid for it and works reliably.

My Pixel C works perfectly and I love it. I've also been through several of them, one because of a screen defect. It's the "split screen" defect which has happened to multiple users and isn't specific to this device or Google devices.
The good - it's the best tablet I've ever used. The bad - I'm not sure how long it's going to live. I'm not pessimistic. If even 10% of these died for no reason within a year or two we'd know by now.

Well store it at 60% charge and use sparingly, it will last longer.

Update 6/22: I had to contact Google 'support' because the screen problem just get worse and worse. They of course put a $600 hold on my credit card and sent me a refurb, which seems ridiculous considering you wouldn't sell a refurb for the same price as new. Turns out the refurb has the exact same problem as the original - the screen is either unresponsive or causes something totally unexpected to open. Trying to type is an exercise in frustration. I spoke with support again - they offered to send another unit and, of course, put another $600 hold on my credit card. At this point I asked for a refund and was told that request would have to be escalated, so I said please do that as I'm sick and tired of this fiasco. It's now been a week and no word or update from Google. THink I'll ever buy another Google product? Like hell.

I been a member here for many years and the board has two main purposes customization (rooting, kernels ... etc) and support.
There are few things people should keep in mind.
  • Few people create a thread and say this device is great.
  • People that have issues either imaginary (and yes some faults people report in my opinion are imaginary) or legit, may think every device is defective.

This advise please take to all threads not just Pixel C, read the threads but please keep in mind any device you buy from anybody will have strengths and weaknesses, do not let a few negative threads turn you off from purchasing.

New pixel c owner here, agree with you to take problems others mention with grain of salt until an "epidemic" appears, but for my own knowledge what are some of the complaints people have?

I did notice not much of a dev community for this device (yet) but hoping that changes for the better. Though really all I'm looking for is an unlocked bootloader and root, which I believe is available from my searching.

Coming from a Motorola XyBoard 10.1 as my last tablet I really can't complain about anything with this one yet.

Same here, I'm a fairly recent Pixel C owner and I like it a lot. Roms are starting to pick up for it. Resurrection Remix is official now and there's one more ROM coming soon.

Man, I really want to pick one of these things up on the used market but the wifi issues scare me away every time I see them. I picked up a Samsung Tab S3 last week but the standby time when connected to wifi is terrible so I'd like to return it. Can anyone confirm the wifi issues are gone? I doubt it, but will I get any support (exchange if needed) from google if I buy a Pixel C used?

I don't have any WiFi issues. Been using this tablet now for 1.5 year every single day, and had never any issues.
Best buy ever for me.

Well said, I have 2 pixels from day one no issues and they are really the best tablet I have ever owned hands down
(I've had the following: HP touchpad, nexus 7, nexus 10, nexus 9, Sony z4 tablet, nothing has come close)

We made should make a single topic thread for all issues and everyone just post there instead....

I think this is the nicest tablet I have ever owned and I have had quite a few. It's build quality is unmatched outside of Apple. I personally don't give two hoots and a holler about multi window or productivity nonsense. I read or play games on my tablet when I am taking a crap and watch media when I am on an airplane. It works great for this. If you want something for productivity, buy a Surface or a laptop. The complaint about the lack of tablet optimized software is moot to me because mediocre tablet optimization on Android is still better than hating my life with Apple's garbage OS, development ecosystem, active suppression of end user firmware modification, and corporate philosophy. I have not had the problems some people have reported with Wifi and the touchscreen, but it is my understanding that both issues have been fixed with the February security update.

I've been very happy with mine. Bought it in late February for light work related stuff, and heavy school use. I never understood the 'productivity' issues people had in reviews, and agree with some of the others in here; I don't count 'productivity' as having a word processor up as well as a browser, twitter, facebook, tumblr, snapchat, etc. at the same time...I would argue that the Pixel C, and android tablets in general, are not the best devices for being 100% distracted and unproductive, but seems like N will fix that later this year, anyway.

I ordered mine with the magnet keyboard, been happy with it. No connection issues so far, and it has been pretty rare that i've used the device without it lately. I do get the double space thing pretty often, which is pretty much my only complaint for the entire combo overall. I haven't been bothered with the lack of dedicated android keys, as the shortcuts work effectively after you get used to them. Same with a lot of the multi-tasking stuff, most of it is obvious and straight forward, and identical to PC keyboard short cuts. I do hope they adjust the default options for that, though, as I'd like to open inbox with the email shortcut, instead of gmail. If anyone knows how to change that, i'd be thrilled. Inbox is set to default, and opens links properly, its just the 'search+e' combination always pulls up the original gmail app.

I do have the wifi issue, sort of, but it doesn't seem to be as bad as some people are experiencing, and I can confirm it got better with the march update. In the buildings i'm in for school, I usually pull down half of what I can from my Nexus 6, yet uploads are usually several mbps higher than the phone. It has only ever hindered download bandwidth. In my home, a typical 3 bedroom sized place with a finished basement, I get almost identical speeds through all devices. The router is on the first floor, and i've never bothered messing with it outside.

I also have the click thing, but only if I really push on it...It will never happen just by touching on screen. I have to purposely feel around with a good bit of pressure before I can get it to happen, so I just stopped doing it.

I got a tuition rebate for mine through school, which ends up meaning I got it for about $325 w/ keyboard. For that price, it is perfect. I do understand that otherwise, with its current OS, and some of the issues being much worse for others, its a tougher sell. I was just in a camp that needed a phone's functionality (almost everything I do for school is through google drive and office), but with a keyboard, bigger screen, and better battery. I have a decent desktop PC, and use about 5% of its capability other than gaming. So a surface device or some full desktop OS-like thing would be overkill.

What a bunch of bull! One of the most reputable sites on the net, anandtech has advised everyone, including Google fans to stay clear of the Pixel C. I've noticed some shills taking over the wifi thread on the Google forums too, claiming it wasn't bad or did not exist at all.

If you want to waste $500+ please go ahead and buy the the Pixel Crap.
