Wow! I'm having the same issue as well! From what I understand, this error occurs when you install wrong firmware on your device (and I did, unfortunately :( ) but attempting to install firmware from the correct version AND the wrong one yields the same message....though I have never had the security downgrade messages that are reported here....it's also worth noting I'm on a different device (moto E4 XT1765) but the same issue, so I felt it relevant to post.

Boot into twrp without installing it first with this command(make sure bootloader is unlocked) : fastboot boot recovery.img

Then install twrp recovery.img from booted twrp then reboot to recovery from twrp then install the custom rom you like.

Edit: misread the problem, this solution will work if the problem is being unable to flash in unlocked bootloader

Edit2: anyone with the efi problem, can try QPST and see if they can get it to recognize the device. I have a spare working motherboard I am willing to test on.

WOW!! All this time I was using the wrong command. Guys just ignore the command "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" and use "fastboot boot twrp.img"

Hi,

I have a big problem.

After I tried flashing TWRP recovery it says
(bootloader) Invalid partition name recovery

Then I tried to flash the stock rom, on nearly every partition it says
(bootloader) Invalid partition name recovery
or
(bootloader) Permission denied

Can please someone help me?
Can you send a screenshot or log of your problem. Because your problem is wired.

Sorry, its long time ago and I have no screenshots anymore. The device was totally bricked and won't work anymore.
The problem was, if I remember right, that I formatted the system partition and it shouldn't because it was written in a diverend format.

Have you tried to flash it using a motorola flashing tool?

Hi,

There could be some flashing tools out there that could help you.

for the rest, take everything that im about to say with a grain of salt:

I've seen many people say on this very forum that the latest motorolas don't support flashing, I've personnaly also never been able to flash anything on my motorola device and to root my phone simply had to boot into my recovery.img (twrp) and pushed the magisk file into the /tmp/ file so that I could download it from my phone. At first, I taught that was an only me thing but now that you have the same issue as well as dozens of others on this forum, I think that is as clear as it gets.. the new moto phone dont support flashes. or maybe it does but for some very specific flashes.

Also, I don't know if that as anything to do with it but I noticed that we don't have an option to wipe the cache partition wich I shearched on the motorola website and they say that it's because the new phones run on the two Slots (A and B) wich removes the need to wipe the cache partition.

every error that we get from trying to flash a file is just like yours, always related to the partition. this leads me to believe that there isn't even a partition in the first place. could a phone run without a partition?
If not well maybe it's is unaccesible.

But, if I was you if would try to use a flash tool
and if it dosen't work,(please do not attempt without someone elses opinion)
I would maybe try to get the zip file of the thing that you are trying to flash and push it to the tmp file in your phone and then extract it from here but I honestly don't think that it is a ver good idea because it could brick your phone in wich case you would be ****ed.

feel free to ask any question

Try to download this: download.lenovo.com/lsa/Rescue/Smartphone/XT1650/GRIFFIN_OPL27.76-71-2-3_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip (extracted from LMSA).

With TWRP change /cache, /system and /data to any filesystem type, and then to ext4.
Now flash this rom (and then u can use LMSA if you want).
