any one recommend good pocket lock app for more 5

I've tried many... but they only seem to turn off screen not on...???

gravity screen, that's all what you need.
depending on how you set it, it might work well, not so well, etc.
you do need to spend some time with each setting, take screen shots of battery usage (screen on time, awake status etc) and see what's the best setting for you.

thanks..... turns off screen.... but not on screen...
found an old app beings using for years on wife's s3

proximity smart cover.... which has being working well......free
might give gravity another go.....

put your hand over proximity meter. screen off

remove hand and screen on!!!!!!!

for those with wallet type cover it means that no need to go near buttons... it's automatic

Proximity smart cover. is free. no ads.... working a treat on my not 5
even if you don't use a cover type case.... put it I in you pocket... turn it upside down....===screen off...... take it out=screen on

painless. .....no sign of high battery usage
