AT&T are such liars (or they just don't know what they're talking about). I've called them about this and have returned two with this very same issue. They can't tell you that they don't know anything about it. Huge B.S.

1st returned due to GPS. Got a new one.
2nd returned due to random shutdowns. Got another new one.
3rd returned due to random shutdowns (again). Got a refurb.
4th returned due to HOME button being activated on its own (when I'm on a program, it's like as if I had touched the HOME button and its back on the desktop. This started happening immediately after turning on the phone right out of the box sent by Warranty Dept.

I'm on my 5th (refurb). Works flawlessly. GPS works. WiFi. Stays on. Everything. It can even launch a rocket into outer space!

My thought exactly! They have to know this is an issue, or they are not wanting to admit it so they dont have to deal with it. Either way...it needs to be addressed.

I recently had some problems with mine. Random shut downs for no apparent reason except when it was on the charger. It is a 1007 version of the Captivate so I'm assuming that's one of the first run models. I got it when AT&T had them free with new contract or upgrade. Anyway, when I called them about the issue they said that they were aware of it and they hadn't pin-pointed an exact issue but they seemed like they were leaning toward the 1007 versions being the main problem. They sent me a new one out and I just got it today, it's a 1011 model. So being that I haven't heard anyone mention anything about a 1011, I'm guessing the replacement that I got is a fairly new phone. Hopefully this one works without any issues.

Well, other than issuing a massive recall, ATT can't really do anything about it. All they can do is pressure Samsung to get their act together and fix this damn problem.

Had this issue, went in to att store and they supplied replacement. Haven't had one shut down since.

They said it was a build number ending in 10 that was the problem.???

Hope that helps someone.

so im getting this phone tomorrow and im kind of weary that this might happen to me. is there a way to avoid this problem?
It seems to relate to the individual unit
I had a 1009 release.. had random shutdown. Traded out before 30 days were up. The new phone is the same batch but no issues.

Sent from me to you over wires using only 1's and 0's

im a victim of getting phones that keep having random shutdowns. im getting fed up with getting refurbished phone after refurbished phone and all of them having this problem. it seems like people are sending their phone in due to theirs shutting off and it just keeps recycling to others. what can i do? should i go to ATT store and tell them what is going on?

edit: im on my 4th refurbished phone

I had the same problem of shutting down, but only if I unplugged the battery after a full ac charge. I downloaded a app called captivate keep alive, I think from the market anyway no more shutdowns!

I have had it happen only for a day, but it seemed to be worse when I had a SIM card lock pin on my phone. After I got it to stay on, it hasn't had the problem since.

I sometimes leave my captivate in my car throughout the day. I never had a problem before but now that the weather is a bit colder, I notice my captivate is 'off' when I leave it in my car. I didn't think much of it at first but now it happens every time. It could be the weather but i've left phones out in the dead of winter and they've never shut down.

I've had my Captivate a little over 4 months. I have had it shut down (turn off) I think 3 times. I was usually using it while it was charging.
