Engadget is reporting that in their testing they only got five hours of moderate use before Google Glass shut down.

I really hope that they got a defective unit or something!

The Looxcie gets 4 hours, always on, with a smaller battery and no display.

I reeeeally hope Glass is capable of all day use, at least by the time it is released to the masses.

five hours means a whole day, because you can not look at the little screen of google glass for long time. your eyes will not feel comfortable .
so it can last a day. just as the smartphone we use.

It's not five hours of screen on time; it's five hours period. Meaning that if I put on Glass before leaving for work at 8am, with moderate use it's dead by 1pm.

Five hours of use is all day. Five hours of use for a few minutes here and there is most certainly not.

The battery life is only going to get better, between tweaks to the software and improved battery technology in each subsequent device. Still, the sooner it's better the better, as I see battery life being the biggest factor potentially holding back the proliferation of possible uses of Glass. A device that can be always on is going to support some very different apps from a device that you're using minimally for fear of running out of power.

It's an explorer edition It's for developers and early testers) It is not the final product. Why would you base your argument on a review that was done on a developers device. It is pointless.

Yeah. To take a developer beta and an off-hand remark and, from that, sythesize the idea that the battery life is poor and always will be is ridiculous.

long battery leads heavy device.
Only at present. As time passes, greater battery capacity will be fit in the same size/mass. It's probably too much to hope for large gains in a single year, but I'm hoping that the commercial version of Glass has a battery that is at least somewhat better.

maybe we should consider carry a portable battery source with us, then link it with our glass all the time
That would rather defeat the purpose, I think.

Maybe Google will take use of the new sulfur battery discovery?

The new sulfur battery is ment to hold 4x more charge in the same mass/area/size of a Li-On battery, and its less flammable
